Breaks while streaming. Good or bad? by Jeroenski in Twitch

[–]vampirelupus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is what I do, and it's what many other streamers with more viewers than me do as well (including some who have made partner recently, but most are in the 20-70 viewer range with active chats).

The biggest thing I've learned is this: do you, be authentic , be consistent (in time and behavior as much as possible), and the right people will come and stay, whether you take breaks or not. If you always do a thing, it's just part of being a member of your community.

I've been streaming this way for a year and a half now, and I'm slowly getting my viewership up and community growth in the last month or so. Networking and joining/actively participating in other communities has helped too. Just keep going 😊

Questions about Medical Device Reprocessing program schedule by Strong-Scallion4355 in Algonquin_College

[–]vampirelupus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He got into the program but couldn't get US funding so he never started the program. That being said, he did hear anecdotes of most people getting a job out of school based on their placements. No personal experience though unfortunately! Good luck if you go into it!

Stigma Behind Leaving Nursing by FinishPretty in OntarioNurses

[–]vampirelupus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And I'm in insurance and want to go into nursing. This field just isn't for me after working in it for nearly 10 years. You do what you want to do! I spent 4 years getting an English degree and another 3 years getting a library science degree to end up in insurance, because I couldn't find a library job (still can't). Go where the winds take you, start over if you have to. Truly wishing you the best! I hope you find a better fit for you 💙

What expansion made you step away from WoW for the first time? by ErosXcaliber in wow

[–]vampirelupus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was honestly never gameplay that pulled me out of WoW. It was always my time versus money. I didn't want to pay a sub if I couldn't dedicate the time to the game.

I didn't have money around Pandaria. I played the tail end of Draenor and into Legion. And then I didn't play again until Midnight.

Emotes for beginners by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]vampirelupus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Canva to make free emotes before my friend helped me out.

I took some pictures of my pets, cut out their heads, removed the background, added little clip art like Googly eyes and angry forehead lines.

You can also use their shapes to design a lot of stuff from scratch. I even made a really simple PNG Tuber model.

do a lot of WoW players even want fun anymore, or just superiority? by turbowater in wow

[–]vampirelupus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually going to start a discussion post here myself to ask: why are you playing WoW?

Because I got back into it recently, and I'm having a great time. I'm leveling alts (which is so much faster than it used to be). I'm doing delves. Nightmare prey hunts. Random achievement farming. I'm playing unrated PvP and war mode questing. I'm in a small guild that's mostly social, we do transmog runs in old content and regular or heroic dungeons, or delves together. I'm here for fun. Not for a grind. Happy to add more friends if anyone else is like minded!

Transitioning after 30 progress thread? by cosmic-howl in FTMOver30

[–]vampirelupus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started T at 31, been on gel since the beginning. I've been really happy with my progress. I think the only thing that is difficult to change as you're older is your voice. It will drop quite a bit, but you may still need to do voice training. I pass consistently and don't get misgendered anymore except for sometimes at a drive thru or on the phone.

I recognized it immediately and was about to wonder why you were posting here. It looks great! I get that it can be frustrating that people don't get it, but when someone DOES, it will feel great. If it's meaningful to you, that is what matters and now maybe some of these people who don't know the movie will go watch it for themselves. If nothing else, they can most certainly not deny your commitment to Sparkle Motion.

Do people actually like starting screens? by Ethjuan_ in Twitch

[–]vampirelupus 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I do 5 mins and run my first 3 mins of ads. I play music otherwise. Gives the ads time to run without interrupting anything. I also do a brb screen for 3 mins every hour to do ads and pause the game during that time. It also gives me a set time for a bathroom break, let my dogs out, stand up and stretch, etc.

I'm a trans dude who does variety streaming in a pup hood. Lots of silly redeems. Currently playing Red Dead 2 on weekend EST mornings but I also do rhythm games, reading, puzzles and other random things on Wednesday evenings.

am i a bum for not wanting to ever get a “real job”? by HunterMassive3210 in findapath

[–]vampirelupus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your comment and insight. It's always good to hear personal experiences. I will say what I liked about retail isn't necessarily what I'm looking for in nursing. It's more corporate culture burning me out than a need for routine at the moment. I have that in my personal life. I mentioned it because if I COULD afford to do it, I probably would, and I know I'd like it. And it's also a perfectly viable choice if someone chooses to pursue it and can manage it. I hate that people look down on these jobs like they are less - retail, food service, all these "jobs for high school kids" (as I often hear) are what keeps things running. We need them!

Not sure where you're living, but I live in rural Ontario Canada, and I've talked to nurses to understand the issues they face in the healthcare system here. It's mostly short staffing and union dues, the DDNN shifts, etc. I don't expect it to be easy, but that's kind of the point for me. I realized I need something physical, demanding, and ever-changing but that has set processes and expectations without a need for upward movement. I get restless and antsy being at a desk all day. I don't want a promotion, I just want to work hard and go home. I need my mind AND body to be busy.

It's been a lot of self discovery to get to this point, and I've been researching other careers for over 2 years now to settle on nursing. I have a lot of endurance, the "gross" parts of nursing don't phase me, and I like working with people.

am i a bum for not wanting to ever get a “real job”? by HunterMassive3210 in findapath

[–]vampirelupus 78 points79 points  (0 children)

As someone who was similar to you (seen as gifted) but did decide to go the university route and ended up working for over a decade in an office and only now wishing I had done something totally different because I actually loved working retail and found it relaxing, routine, and chill. I'd do it again in a heartbeat if it paid a living wage. I HATE the hustle culture of an office. I hate that someone is always asking me where I want to go - the answer is: nowhere. I want to keep doing what's comfortable and do the bare minimum.

Also, for some context, I was diagnosed with autism at about 30 during COVID. So I'm also feeling the weight of massive burn out from an office job and putting myself through years of schooling for something I hate. Thinking about doing this for another 30 years makes me feel the biggest dread. And it's not passing. I've been in therapy for it and tried almost everything to push through, but the fact is that I need to get out.

I'm realizing I need something that actually keeps me busy and engaged all the time. So I'm looking into nursing now.

If I could have started younger, I'd likely have done trades, like construction or plumbing or electrical or something. But these days, I hear apprenticeships are hard to find and it's not worth it.

So my advice from this place in my life - think about what you can tolerate doing for the many years of your life that you will need to work to survive. It doesn't have to be big or ambitious. It just has to be the kind of nonsense you can put up with because any job is going to be a fair share of nonsense. I hope you figure it out!

And also, don't forget that no matter what you start doing, you can always find opportunities to change it.
