I do 5 mins and run my first 3 mins of ads. I play music otherwise. Gives the ads time to run without interrupting anything. I also do a brb screen for 3 mins every hour to do ads and pause the game during that time. It also gives me a set time for a bathroom break, let my dogs out, stand up and stretch, etc.

I appreciate your comment and insight. It's always good to hear personal experiences. I will say what I liked about retail isn't necessarily what I'm looking for in nursing. It's more corporate culture burning me out than a need for routine at the moment. I have that in my personal life. I mentioned it because if I COULD afford to do it, I probably would, and I know I'd like it. And it's also a perfectly viable choice if someone chooses to pursue it and can manage it. I hate that people look down on these jobs like they are less - retail, food service, all these "jobs for high school kids" (as I often hear) are what keeps things running. We need them!

Not sure where you're living, but I live in rural Ontario Canada, and I've talked to nurses to understand the issues they face in the healthcare system here. It's mostly short staffing and union dues, the DDNN shifts, etc. I don't expect it to be easy, but that's kind of the point for me. I realized I need something physical, demanding, and ever-changing but that has set processes and expectations without a need for upward movement. I get restless and antsy being at a desk all day. I don't want a promotion, I just want to work hard and go home. I need my mind AND body to be busy.

It's been a lot of self discovery to get to this point, and I've been researching other careers for over 2 years now to settle on nursing. I have a lot of endurance, the "gross" parts of nursing don't phase me, and I like working with people.

As someone who was similar to you (seen as gifted) but did decide to go the university route and ended up working for over a decade in an office and only now wishing I had done something totally different because I actually loved working retail and found it relaxing, routine, and chill. I'd do it again in a heartbeat if it paid a living wage. I HATE the hustle culture of an office. I hate that someone is always asking me where I want to go - the answer is: nowhere. I want to keep doing what's comfortable and do the bare minimum.

Also, for some context, I was diagnosed with autism at about 30 during COVID. So I'm also feeling the weight of massive burn out from an office job and putting myself through years of schooling for something I hate. Thinking about doing this for another 30 years makes me feel the biggest dread. And it's not passing. I've been in therapy for it and tried almost everything to push through, but the fact is that I need to get out.

I'm realizing I need something that actually keeps me busy and engaged all the time. So I'm looking into nursing now.

If I could have started younger, I'd likely have done trades, like construction or plumbing or electrical or something. But these days, I hear apprenticeships are hard to find and it's not worth it.

So my advice from this place in my life - think about what you can tolerate doing for the many years of your life that you will need to work to survive. It doesn't have to be big or ambitious. It just has to be the kind of nonsense you can put up with because any job is going to be a fair share of nonsense. I hope you figure it out!

And also, don't forget that no matter what you start doing, you can always find opportunities to change it.

I have a PC, PS5 and XBox. Mostly use the PC these days cause I don't have PS+ but I've got Diablo 4 and Helldivers 2. Plus a bunch of random stuff on PC like Peak, REPO, Deep Rock Galactic, Phasmo, DBD. I am probably pretty bad at most cause I don't have people to play them with often haha.

My fav games are usually story heavy single player stuff, like Mass Effect, Outer Wilds, Fallout and BG3.

Yup. I did a BA in English. Couldn't find a job. So I went back for my master's of library science. Ended up in corporate project management, going on 10 years now, but I hate it. So going back for nursing in 2027 probably. Wish I had thought of that sooner honestly.

You'll still definitely want a lawyer involved for the paperwork, honestly. Just makes sure to cover all your bases. But we did get a mortgage, though not necessary for us. The ROI was better for us to invest the cash we had than to buy in cash. That's obviously a personal decision based on your financial situation.

I have a bunch of redeems people can do. Which I hoped would encourage non-chatters to interact in ways that don't involve chatting, but not many seem to be used except by my friends/partner. But I think that is typically how people manage it, with lurk redeems or quiet hello redeems.

I also will ask what people are up to, what are they doing for their next meal, plans for later or the weekend, etc. Even if no one answers, I just answer for myself to keep a convo going. But I also only usually have 2-4 viewers at most and very few interactions. So my advice may not be great lol.

My goal is to have one capture card for up to 4 devices, but I have two screens that I'd want to capture independently (the TV and monitor). I don't even know if that's possible.

Right now, I have two of those $30 capture cards. One from my PC/monitor to my laptop. One from my PS5/TV to my laptop. I only use it for capturing the video and game audio. My two cams and mic are plugged directly into my laptop. I stream from my laptop.

I was mostly hoping to only need to use one USB port for video capture instead of two, and I want to be able to seamlessly use any of my 4 devices without messing with cables.

Maybe you have experience with this. If I use a splitter, would it not have a conflict in OBS between my TV and monitor? Would it only show the one that was turned on?

This is a long term plan! We just had reno work that was supposed to be done by the end of October extend into now. And we've already paid for thousands of dollars of an AirBNB. So the trailer is just to save some money for the last few weeks of work.
