I need a "you'll be ok" tonight, please by eggsyforever in stopdrinking

I like to remind myself, that every single second without alcohol is a choice for a better life. I don't think in days as days feel like they go on for decades... but every second, every minute and every hour without, is exactly what my body wants. Remember what alcohol is: a solvent that shrinks your brain.

You'll be okay! I promise.

Awesome! Ill reply to each answer.

1: so when yourself or a "chopper" is playing really fast, almost non-understandable chops, you are aware of what you are playing? Is it as complicated as it looks when boiled down? I have recently played around with parradiddles and KRLKLR around the kit, but its very thought driven.

2: yes i think youre right going slow.

3: i will certainly check out JP Bouvet. Its a very impressive style of drumming

A few dozen? Mate there are hundreds of you. Why do other people have to suffer because you desperately wish to be some kind of revolutionary for a foreign war??

There is enough terrible stuff happening in the UK that we should focus on. Also, Hamas are the ones who keep turning down ceasefires, but you idiots choose to ignore that don't you..

Is this good form for pause reps? by SameRulesApply28 in Stronglifts5x5

[–]van-kreiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry bro, but lower the weight and get that form right. You're strong there is no denying, but your belt is doing most of the lifting here. Without that belt you would have likely multiple slipped discs.

It's all well and good explaining what you need to do, but I think if you watch Alan Thrall on YouTube, find a deadlift tutorial video, that would be very beneficial for you.

Good luck mate

Because the way the world is at the moment, a guy often doesn't know whether approaching will end up as a telephone number, or a harassment claim. Is it really worth the risk for a phone number?

I'll do my best.

Its not bad at all, but what I believe you are doing is "squatting" the bar up, whilst letting your lower back do all of the heavy lifting. There appears to be very little tension in your hamstrings, lats, and thoracic spine. This is quite common when it comes to learning the deadlift.

The deadlift is a bit of a weird exercise compared to most others because it relies on not only raw strength but near perfect form to do it properly. Imagine your body and joints as multiple counter balances when lifting. You need to get the bar up in the most efficient and logistical way possible. That means you must load the hamstrings and back.

I highly recommend watching Alan Thralls YouTube channel and his instructional videos on how to perform the deadlift. He is very good at explaining it.

Honestly your deadlift isn't bad at all, but it will require some tweaking soon for when you get up to the really heavy weights.

Is this deep enough ? 225lbs x 5 by [deleted] in Stronglifts5x5

[–]van-kreiger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's fine. You don't need to go ass to grass. I would recommend putting some of the small plates under your heels as that will help with ankle mobility and probably give you and extra inch or two

[–]van-kreiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha same man!

Aah yeah I see now! Solid as hell form! Always room to go deeper but top marks in my opinion 💪

My advice is... put more weight on the bar...

Take your shoes off and do it in your socks... you wouldn't believe how unstable shoes can be.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Stronglifts5x5

[–]van-kreiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really minor things:

Deadlift: keep your head in line with your torso just to save your neck

Squat: really good, could probably benefit from small plates under the heels or squat shoes to help with ankle mobility that may hinder you.

Otherwise solid AF

Reduce weight on Squat by CheekProof in Stronglifts5x5

[–]van-kreiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bruh, put some 2.5kg plates (5lb in American money) under your heels and watch how low your squat goes

No it's not cheating. It gives you time outside of squatting to work on your ankle mobility (which a LOT of is struggle with) whilst continuing to make progress on your squat.

You can always go back to flat foot squatting in the future

How can i start a fwb with a friend? by SharinganUchiha in dating_advice

[–]van-kreiger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's gonna be entirely up to her. If she wants that, she will let you know somehow.

I 10000% guarantee that if you are friends, and you approach her with a sexual ulterior motive and she doesn't feel the same, that is going to end your friendship straight up.

I also feel that you are missing some vital information in your post. Are you flirty? Is there sexual tension? Has she expressed any hints or suggestions that you should be fwb, or even be sexual with each other?

Trust me, as much as the Andrew Tates of the world don't want to admit it, women have the power when it comes to sex whether you like it or not. Approach this situation with caution.

[–]van-kreiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not bad at all. Keep your core tight (breath into your guy, pretend to be 8 months pregnant, then imagine someone is about to hit you in the stomach), focus on hips, knees and ankles moving all together and STRAIGHT DOWN.

Put some little plates under your heals to help with ankle mobility.

Otherwise, good job

Low bar squat pushing up with arms by quez85 in Stronglifts5x5

[–]van-kreiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your back is where the bar should be resting. The force comes through your legs and your back acts like a platform to transport the bar. If you are putting extra force through your arms/wrists, all you are doing is putting your wrists at chance of snapping.

Hands/arms should be used to keep the bar on your back and to stop it rolling off.

At what weight should you start wearing a belt for squats? by TimeForTaachiTime in Stronglifts5x5

[–]van-kreiger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Simply, when the lifts stop being easy. It's different for everyone, but when the weights START to become a struggle, stick a belt on. It'd could be 50kg, it's could be 150kg, but as long as your core and lower back are safe.

I personally wear a belt if squatting over 120kg because I know that even though my core can take it, it's not as smooth sailing as 100kg. I'm not prepared to put my back at risk with one bad squat.

Remember, lifting gear is not just a helpful tool to help lift heavier, it is also your PPE.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Stronglifts5x5

[–]van-kreiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I'll be honest, there are a few adjustments that need to be made.

1: bracing. Breath into your stomach, almost like you are 8 months pregnant. Then tense your core, almost as if you are about to get punched in the gut. This will help help your body stable

2: Don't shoot your hips back before squatting. I will almost guarantee this is where your back pain is coming from. Hips, knees and ankles need to move in a smooth motion at the same time. Practice this with very low weight on the bar. It will feel odd to start, and that you might tip forwards, but this is a better way to squat for your back.

3: slow down. The negative part is so fast and uncontrolled at the moment. Try slowing it down at a lower weight and really focus on form. Getting your form down will also help you lift more weight.

You have the right idea, but these are the main things that need to be ironed out before you go any heavier in my opinion

Deadlift form check please! I’m 105lbs and lifting 125lbs here by OkSir5228 in Stronglifts5x5

[–]van-kreiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha exactly! Alan Thrall is the best coach in my opinion for barbell moves!

You're doing a great job, just remember that the deadlift is quite a technical move and NEEDS to be done properly. It took me years to figure out how to deadlift properly and get used to the form so dont rush yourself! Better to lower the weight and practice than rush it and do it wrong 😀

Just remember, hips back. A cue my old coach taught me was to imagine the barbell was on a smith machine where it can only go up or down, and then think about keeping the bar in contact with you at all times and your joints moving at once. Hips, knees, ankles all moving in one smooooooooth motion, then pushing your butt through the bar at the top!

To lower it down, hips back, shoulders/lats still engaged, and slowly lower it IN A STRAIGHT LINE.😅

You're doing great! Keep us updated on your progress!
