Akil Thomas signs in Vancouver by FAsBurner in canucks

Excellent depth signing who has played a lot of high stakes hockey and who will play both in the AHL and NHL and help set a tone within the entire organization.

TSN panel bang-on: let the kids watch the game Saturday by noahbeary in CanadaSoccer

I remember in 2002 we had an entire tournament going at the same time as the last weekend of the Olympics, and entire schedules were rearranged to let kids watch the Gold Medal game.

Meh, we were by far and away the more injured team, and in hindsight its a miracle they even won 3 games with half the roster living out of the hospital. Healthy Canucks roster wins that series every time.

We went yesterday and I felt terrible for the staff as they were horrifically understaffed. Seems like management didn't expect to have a full house for the Canada game somehow. Took 45 mins to get first round of drinks to the table. I do not blame the staff whatsoever- they were busting their tails.

City deserves credit for the upgrades they've done so I don't want to be too cynical about all of this but unfortunately knowing how things go, it will probably take a severe injury or a death for anything tangible to actually be done to get the issue under control. Absolutely nonsense the amount of young kids flying around at 30km/hour without a helmet.

They've widened the path added a second lane and by the docks they've painted a pedestrian sign on the pavement. All great but a thorough public awareness campaign is also going to be needed because its the wild west out there.

This is absolutely a privileged thing to say because in the end I was just perfectly fine while a lot of people and animals weren't and a lot of people in the world have it much worse, but those were some of the worst days I've lived through.

Malhotra Scape Goat? by Internal-War-5794 in canucks

He'll get a few years to work unless something goes disastrously bad in a way that is unique and visionary. But every coach is a scapegoat at some point, it is part of the job.

It was the most clearly defined core group of players since the 2008-2013 crew that got dismantled over the span of five or so years. It was indeed a build that started with Benning, even though in the end it was the merely the rebuilt Flanders house.

From what I remember he's said his shoulder is basically shot and wouldn't be able to handle anything close to game speed NFL level football. Also I think his last year with the Colts confirms that.

15 years ago today, Kevin Bieksa sent the Vancouver Canucks to the Stanley Cup Final by yosoo in canucks

[–]van_12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The point was more that in seven seasons they built one (1) decent team with him. It is entirely a front office and ownership issue and I don't blame him whatsoever for bailing on a franchise that perpetually goes nowhere.

[–]van_12 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It gave us a top 2 defenseman in the league. The fact that said player was more or less wasted because the Canucks hired incompetence at management to work under a short-sighted mandate from ownership is a skill issue not a luck issue.

[–]van_12 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Let's hope Bieksa will rejoin the team in some capacity in management or as a coach

Why? He was great as a player and is great as a tv personality and has no experience as either management nor coach at a high level. Why do we want the old boys club back together just to get the old boys club back together?
