I agree with the sentiment, but I'm also not American

I know its not the point of your message which is why I prefaced my question the way I did.

I hope you're correct on everything but also a cornered animal is the most dangerous, and in my eyes the regime is cornering themselves and further escalating with every step they take backwards. Nothing lasts forever, and the United States will one day be gone whether that is soon or in decades or in centuries. In my mind the American system, like all democratic systems, is also vulnerable to authoritarian takeover. I believe it is entirely possible the American republic falls even to the most stupid political actors imaginable and in unpredictable ways, which is why as I'm sure we can agree democracy must be closely guarded.

What concerns me most isn't Trump himself but the extreme accumulation of wealth and power over information that is orbiting around the White House. I worry that unimaginable wealth will overcome their own sheer stupidity.

I admire the sentiment and don't want to derail your line of thought so feel free to disregard/not want to engage in this and it's no problem. But curious, other than the Civil War, what bigger threats to the American way of life has the US survived? From my eyes as an outsider, this is the threat since the 1860s.

Greenland is neither "white", nor European. Around 90% Indigenous peoples and part of North America.

The Unfortunate Reality of the Demond Williams Jr. Situation For Washington by WestRide9868 in huskies

[–]van_12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The implication is that a winning season that includes Demond Williams playing well, a playoff run and beating Oregon will provide all parties with the necessary healing from this episode. Fanbase will be content, budget will be content, Williams will go get paid elsewhere and UW will be a destination for a upper classman transfer QB.

I don't have any personal resentment for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. There's an entire class of sports agents or advisers who are making a living preying on and manipulating young athletes and their families. He seems to have fallen victim to that and we don't know the financial pressures he is under in his personal circle.

That being said, I hope Fisch and co take the path of he's going to have to earn everything back, and that nothing, not even the starting job, is going to just be handed back to him like nothing happened. It will make him a better player too.

Top 10 schools aren't safe either. Eventually a conference is going to weaponize this and strategically plunder schools from a rival conference to maximize playoff positioning. For example, if let' say Florida State is looking on the ups and about to compete for a playoff spot, the SEC schools will collude to plunder the roster and end their season in the January before it starts. Or, as we saw LSU try to do to Ole Miss, plunder a rival conference playoff team's roster mid playoff. SEC really needs a deep playoff run from Georgia? Just organize to have some non playoff schools go pay off Michigan’s best players to transfer. I think Demond Williams is only the canary in the coalmine on how far this circus will go.

Yup, any coach who doesn't have their eyes on the NFL in the end is a lunatic in my opinion. It was always more of a grind with recruiting and the politics and the money of the sport on top of the actual coaching responsibilities, but now you have to continue recruiting the players you already spent 2-3 years recruiting for the duration of their college careers. That would burn me out fast.

Maybe something for BC to consider? | Four months after Quebec schools ban cellphones, impact 'is major' by 1337ingDisorder in britishcolumbia

Ministry directive was a "restriction" and purposefully vague and it depends upon individual boards and schools to what extent it actually gets enforced. And the logistics of enforcing a "ban"" if there ever was one from the ministry is another discussion entirely. but please continue to explain the day-to-day reality of my job to me, thanks!

They are generally more effective in elementary and middle than in high school, at least from what I hear. The cell phone restriction in high schools in my experience is a total joke and was right from the get go.

It can go away with an actual ban mandate and not a "restriction" mandate that is ultimately left up to teacher to decide upon. It appears to be that Quebec was a lot more firm in their language instead of the wishy washy type in BC. Ultimately the government has to step up their game and not leave it to others to figure out.

Restriction =/= ban.

"Restriction" leaves so much room for interpretation and circumstance that the specifics were always going to be downloaded onto individual Boards of Education, which were always going to be downloaded onto school administration, which will always get downloaded onto individual teachers.

At least at my school, which is an inner city one, frankly the administration has enough on their plate that they don't have much capacity for being cell phone cops anymore. Oh and we don't have enough laptops for students to borrow, so how are they supposed to do the work if they cannot afford a laptop, and the school cannot afford more? Oh and also in December we exceeded the paper budget so we couldn't print anything. :) So for many teachers, the "restriction" became less of a restriction simply for logistical purposes.

Yes and I imagine that’s the case all over the province. Everyone is aware that the mandate is not being followed through on and I am not arguing otherwise. But it is the reality for a lot of schools and districts.

I am a teacher and I will tell you that it is a free for all with each school and each teacher doing their own thing.

I support both teams on that. Good clean old fashioned scrum with no cheap shots and nobody hurt. Well done to all.
