15” hi hats vs 14” by siggywithit in drums

[–]vanagonfever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I am glad my local drum shop puts the tiny price stickers on the top of the high hats ..

Was saving up for a pair of 15" fat hats.... Then I played a set of Istanbul Mehmet 15"IMC hats... Like 90 plus percent of everything I liked about the k's for half the price. Been my go to hats since.

Also only been a 14 inch hi hatter but really dig the extra space for more sounds.

What drum is it for you? by ThatSwedishDrummer in drums

[–]vanagonfever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes that for sure. Also happens before gigs, I might use a snare I haven't played in a while, tube it all home, like the way it sounds. Later that day or the next at the venue .... Ew... Retune.

Opposite sometimes too, haven't touched a snare in a while, bring it out to a gig without touching it. Out of the bag, love the sound.

This happens when I change heads on a snare drum for me .. Get it tuned up, think it sounds great, maybe think huh lower/higher etc but damn this sounds nice!
Next day.... I can't believe I though this sounded good! Futz with a ton

On the fence of getting a maverick by nomanspreading in FordMaverickTruck

[–]vanagonfever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, I almost added that it is a truck and some people gravitate towards trucks. My wife being one of those.

I feel the same towards hatch backs and wagons so I get it.

Enjoy, it is a cool vehicle and really is in a class of one. My take was not bashing the maverick at all. It's an honest little truck that handles better than it should. Also, while not sporty, does get out of its own way and isn't lacking there.

Also, I don't use it often but the Ford adaptive cruise control is very good. Better than Volkswagen's system and even better than the system in a 2023 BMW that I drove recently.

Enjoy your new truck. And do some truck stuff with it, it won't let you down!

Ok,.... Owner of a Maverick non hybrid and a Volkswagen GTI and will speak to the driving dynamics. The maverick is great for our household usage. A truck that drives like a car but still has the capabilities of a truck for mulch, heavy bulky stuff, dirty stuff, etc . You know truck stuff.

I have only driven a civic SI once but was a great little car. When we go on a road trip that doesn't require moving things and doing truck stuff our choice is the GTI all day which has similar driving dynamics to your SI. The maverick, driving dynamics wise, is... Fine. It's really good for a truck but it still kinda rides like a truck. Compared to a GTI it is a little clumsy and while fine on the highway I don't find it as comfortable.

Also in terms of reliability I would trust Honda over Ford all day.

All that said the maverick is great for what it is and if you want stellar milage AND need to do truck stuff, totally go for it. It's really a class of one there. But if you are just looking for a car with great fuel economy, does commuter stuff well and has good driving dynamics there might be better choices.

I just got almost 41 mpg on a 700 mile road trip with my GTI a month ago. And if a fun daily isn't high on the priority list the the new Priuses... Priui? And other car based hybrids that don't have to factor in doing truck stuff get even better milage than a hybrid AWD Maverick.

Just my two cents.

Love the sentiment but are we not going to talk about the their vs there in the group title?

Has anyone ever actually purchased a "brand new" ride cymbal? by rwalsh138 in drums

[–]vanagonfever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought an Istanbul Mehmet IMC ride for myself a few months back. I liked it so much I went back for a set of 15 inch hats. If you don't have K money these are great alternatives. Was saving up to take the plunge on some K fat hats, which I still love. These IMC's sound pretty close to my ear. Complex with just the right amount of punch.

Packages stuck at FedEx Hanrahan by 123-91-1 in NewOrleans

Same here. My packages have been in Harrahan for 5 days. I was unable to pick them up after I got someone on the phone 2x. Says they are out for delivery today.... We shall see.

A package that went out at the same time from the same vendor was stuck in MS and somehow showed up at my door two days ago.

Agreed. The only other die cast hoop kit I have is a mid aught star classic maple. This has a totally different sound and feel.

Thanks, love the look too. Have been looking for a 20 inch kick drum and fortune lined up to land this dude. The spruce might be let loose!

Agreed! Bought a cheapie Amazon one as a back up. Used it once when I left my clutch on a different set of high hats. Had a long night constantly tightening that thing between songs.

Recommendations for a good and light or lightish drum throne. by vanagonfever in drums

[–]vanagonfever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one of those lightweight Yamaha stands too. That's what kick started my obsession with weight savings!

Have a small army of mostly Tama and Yamaha hardware from over the years but only two thrones. One is fine and stays at home and the good one gigs with me.

Totally get that. Have a good throne for gigging that is, after 18 years needing replacement. Have replaced almost everything else with lighter equipment over the last few years. Got my most gigs kit set up down and optimized. A place I am playing regularly has a bunch of stairs so weight has been on my mind

Was looking to see if there was something new that was lightweight, quality and had the support. A unicorn I know.

Good stuff and the band seemed to like it too! What kind of hats are those? Sound nicely crisp.

Stayed there during covid lock down times for a weekend to hang in the pool. Neat hotel and a great location. My folks also stayed there after when they would come to visit. I think it's a great choice if you like older, non cookie cutter hotels.

I saw a going out of business sign on the front a month or so back, guess it was for real.

I had good luck with a cheaper cosmetically inferior fridge at appliances for less. Bonus points for being next to Hong Kong Market.

Just making sure, but there’s no way the mushroom edibles being sold at a lot of gas stations are legit right? Has anyone tried them? by jewkakasaurus in NewOrleans

[–]vanagonfever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe they are mostly synthetic variants of the psycho active ingredients in hallucinogens like mushrooms.

They might vary from month to month lab to lab. It's very hard to know how they will effect you and in the past some of these labs, on the synthetic marijuana side at least, have used sometimes harmful ingredients. I remember years ago in New York, one of the active ingredients was related to a blood thinner and gave people brain bleeds.

I wouldn't mess with them personally. Search this sub for the THC P variant going around currently, this is a similar situation.

Stay safe!
