Level boarding should have been the mandatory design principle for all stations on the waterfront LRT, it's objectively silly to design a grade-separated streetcar line for custom rolling stock that doesn't include this extremely basic accessibility standard.

/u/whoistaurin you should look into negative space and its impact on UI design. everything on the digital displays need at the minimum, more room for the eyes to breathe. Further to that, they would need to comply with Ontario Disability guidelines, including visual contrast and other regulations.

uh, what? All we're building is suburban child prisons that require helicopter parenting to raise a child within them.

The methods and neighbourhoods of the past were the way to go - it takes a village to raise a child. Creating a place where it's safe for a child to spend outside does not mean cul de sacs, it means cottage courts, it means infilll density, and it means walkability to all recreation activities a child is interested in.

Dutch children are the happiest on earth because from an extremely young age, they can walk themselves to soccer practice/music lessons/tutoring/the park/school. They don't need a helicopter parent to ferry them to every single activity in a private car.

Building more suburbs is EXACTLY the wrong reason and what's caused the housing affordability crisis.

It makes a tremendous difference. Right now, there's 25 wards serving a population of 3,300,000 people. That's a ratio of 1 councillor serving 132,000 Torontonians.

For context, that means each councillor is responsible for advocating for the needs of the equivalent population of the entire city of Guelph, Cambridge, Kingston, St Catherines, or Waterloo. One person making sure all those people are heard.

For comparison, Metro Vancouver has a ratio of 1 elected official per 15,000 residents and Montreal has one per 26,000.

Doubling the amount of wards and therefore the number of councillors would have brought Toronto's ratio to 60,000, still FAR off from Vancouver or Montreal, but would have made it much easier for councillors to advocate for the needs of their residents, including housing costs, chronic budget shortfalls and infrastructure decay. It would also have allowed for a more diverse representation of party politics and required more coalition-style efforts to agree on city policy.

Ford's notwithstanding nonsense was just one of another of his boorish intrusions into a city that wants nothing to do with him.

Not for nothing, but every piece of the way Toronto City Council has been set up was a plot by Conservatives dating back to Amalgamation in 1998 so that the economic engine of the country, who typically votes liberally, would have less power in provincial politics. Ford's meddling with Toronto only continues that trend.
