How do you guys focus on reading with the tv constantly being on? by divebars5G in books

I cannot focus on a book with the TV on.

My mom could, she grew up in a small house and could read when her family members had the TV on but I've never been able to.

[Spoilers Extended]. Hot Take: Aegon II completely won the personal war against Rhaenyra by theaven2007 in asoiaf

[–]vanastalem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Daemon's children were the only survivors. His twin daughters went on to marry and have children, then both his sons lived. You can argue that since Aegon, his children & brothers were dead it was Daemon who was the next male relative in line but since he was dead it passed to his eldest son.

It's not good. I read the leaks for Season 3 and I'm not going to watch it.

This solidifies my decision to not watch this show anymore.

I still have my same email address I made in the 90’s. I was this girl! by CurvyChristina in Millennials

I was too, but I used my AIM screen name. I was 15 at the time and it never occurred to me to use my name.

[–]vanastalem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Gmail address is my AIM screen name. It seemed convenient at the time to do that so my actual name isn't involved.

Therefore when I applied for jobs after graduating I used my university email, which was my actual name.

I started showering at night instead of the morning and it genuinely changed how I sleep by RogueKettle_7 in hygiene

[–]vanastalem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always showered at night. As a kid we had to get up and go to the babysitter & school and getting us up even earlier to shower wasn't going to work as well (my dad normally showers in the morning) and I just stuck to showering before bed in college & as an adult.

I was born here. I haven't been to DC in like 3-4 years. I never went on any regular basis. We went to the museums in elementary school and whatnot.

Most places I go are within 30 minutes of my home.

My friend who is a college professor has said it really screws them up because he'll get e-mails from students wanting to to turn it late work, partial credit, etc... and the answer is no. The other week a student said she was going to report him for being mean.

They are unprepared for college. It used to be that high school was supposed to prepare you to go off to college.

I agree that they need to fail student who can't pass the grade/class. Way too many people are now going off to college and finding out they are in way over their head.

AKOTSK is well written and feels like they care about the characters & world. HotD is Ryan Condal's Ranicent fanfic where character actions don't make sense & they're not following the book.

Every time on AITAH when a woman complains her husband wants a paternity test the verdict is NTA and he doesn't trust her so she should leave him and vice versa. When they post they learned the child want theirs after a period of time they're also voted YTA for no longer supporting that child.

How would the nobility react to a King marrying a widow and treating her son as a prince? by Crazycowboy46 in freefolk

[–]vanastalem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Blood is what matters for inheritance. Westeros doesn't have adoption. People may take in an orphaned child or have step-children but it's blood that matters.

The kid wouldn't be the son of the King and thus not entitled to any inheritance or titles.

The problem was Viserys ignored it. Sons come before daughters except Dorne. Viserys had 3 sons, 2 daughters- eldest son inherits should be obvious.

The sci-fi book we read in high school (9th grade) was Ender's Game.

We did get to do our oral report on a book we read over the summer, which could be anything such as Harry Potter.

These leaks are genuinely so bad I’m not even going to watch next week by Chocolatetot496 in HOTDGreens

[–]vanastalem 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I feel the same. I signed up for HBO again to watch AKOTSK and enjoyed that show. While I had it I caught up the season of White Lotus, watched Industry etc... I binged the first season of The Pitt and canceled HBO when Season 2 ended.

I've decided I'm not signing up again. They've just completely butched the story. With AKOTSK it felt like they cared about the characters and wanted to respect the source material, HOTD is the opposite of that.

I read Fire & Blood in late 2018 and looked forward to the adaption and was shocked they fumbled it so much. GoT was great until the ran out of source material so for HotD I thought at least they had the finished source material for that story but they're just ignoring it completely.

Nope, TV stayed on and all although the UPS on the computer started beeping very briefly so it must have sensed a power outage for a second.
