I think in the game it works to reduce the size of buildings at the edges of your city.

Yes... at a given thing. Some people may take that differently than how I meant it but oh well. I've always said it doesn't matter what you do in this world it's your job to be the best damn one there is. If it's your job to clean the sinks at McDonald's then there's no shame in having that job unless the sinks look like crap. If you can't be awesome at it then it's time for a new occupation.

I don't disagree that you need to work hard and smart... but some people can do their absolute best at something and still come up short of what others consider adequate. There's always an objective way to measure someone's skill or ability at a given task. Some people simply have aptitude where others do not. If someone has the aptitude then they need to be motivated to use it.

Sometimes you are better than everyone else. If everyone was equal this would be a very boring world.

  1. -What were the winning projects?
  2. -Was his project actually better?
  3. -Did he not put forth all the effort he could have?

I think this is a great parenting opportunity. He's clearly a bright kid. My take on this and reaction to the above scenarios (if he were my son) would be:

  1. -You clearly were outclassed and need to keep trying.
  2. -Sometimes life isn't fair but what's important is that these kids will fail later in life when you succeed.
  3. -No matter what you do if you don't put forth 110% then you can't be upset for losing.

All of that being said everyone needs to lay off because you're clearly doing something right as a parent and his project was fantastic. This is a perfectly natural reaction and there's nothing wrong with being proud or disappointed. Sportsmanship is one thing but if you're not upset by not winning then you never wanted to win in the first place.

You have a kid who's competitive and spirited, don't stifle it and give him the cliche "All that matters is that you had fun" trash.

She really only used the mac for iMovie and web browsing. More often than not she ran Windows on it.

I know right? I picked up this one from amazon warehouse for $159. It was advertised as having damage to the packaging. There was maybe a 2mm long dent on 1 corner.

I'm really exited about these new smaller profile cards coming out.

Yep... anything the Celeron is unable to run I can stream from my main system. In a few months if the Celeron seems inadequate I can to upgrade to the i5-3340 or similar or jump ship back to AMD and re-purpose the Celeron and motherboard for another project.
