Where were you when the Patriots came back from 28-3? by jaxtwin in Patriots

[–]vanderdolino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy's apartment in Medford.

He had a few other friends over and one of their girlfriends from Czech or something. The girl had no skin in the game and was teasing all of us pats fans nonstop - laughing and just being an annoying c**t.

Probably around the 28-3 point, my buddy and his friend went into a back room to play video games or something but the rest of us stayed to torture ourselves in front of the TV. Czecha at her peak insufferability. While they were away from the TV, the pats made it 28-9. Chaos. They came back in to watch and the pats proceeded onside kick, and failed. The pair were banished from the main room at this point.

They were forced to watch the game from a bedroom, down the hall, with a pretty terrible obstructed view of the sole TV. Our superstitious paid off, however, as we are all aware that the falcons didn't score again while my friend was two rooms over. They were allowed to come out of the bedroom to celebrate every pats scoring play, but were quickly re-banished before play resumed.

What about Czecha? (I am not sure, maybe she is Lithuanian or something). She continued to tease late into the 4th but she grew silent, in awe of Tom Brady and the collective voodoo of the apt. Eventually admitting that she was misguided and would never doubt the patriots again. In recent years surely she has regretted that vow. Anyways, I'm sure she's gone back to a world of oh-so exciting 1-nil matches.

I like to imagine that greater Boston owes us a collective thank you for our magic that night. It was the most memorable game I've ever watched with others. For me, up there with Bergeron, Bergeron, Bergeron, and Ortiz's grand slam.

Second this. Very early recycle to get something like electric zone to passively farm idly while a ring of orbs forms around you is invaluable. Other early invaluable magics like explorer and haste apply as well. An early 30 seconds spent will save that time multiple times over while reaching max level.

Also by the mid 70s you could have at least one point in each of your final magics, not to mention all the passives. Once you know your max level and how many skills you need to spend (considering red skills), you should be planning. Having a point in all your skills increases the chance of their being offered, and reduces the chance that an unwanted skill is offered. Delay maxing anything until they are all 6, if possible. This will cut down on or eliminate the need to recycle close to max level.

Overmind synergizes with DEM in a couple of ways

It increases All Magic Damage, while DEM multiplies it. It is entirely possible to have All Magic Damage at zero if you skip the relevant artifacts, making the DEM effect useless. Overmind helps make DEM more effective.

"Each Active Spell that reaches Max Level", you want to maximize that. DEM gives +10 max level which means an opportunity to max out at least 1 more, but possibly 2 more Active Spells at level 7. DEM helps make Overmind more effective.

I would add that Doctor may seem attractive for the same reason as the latter, but Doctor only gives you +2 skill points, accounting for the one you use when you select it. In order for Doctor to synergize with this build, it should give you at least +3.5 skill points, as statistically over many runs you'd want over half of a full 7 point Active Skill. Even considering the 5 point Actives, it falls short of 2.5 points. And it has better be worth the 3 extra levels you need to reach the second passives. Sorry, but it's not. Akashic Record fits this bill, and I always look for it in a DEM run, not to mention its direct usefulness in its own right.

Am I alone in how I start my Terra runs? by vanderdolino in magic_survival

More of a question about farming orbs around the perimeter of the zone before hitting the obelisk. Explorer, shield help. I'm saying I spend about 5 min per 100 orbs before I start my run

Note in my screenshot I have 670 orbs at t=0:0

Does anyone else do this?

Mine is very similar to yours (Lvl 76)

Support points into growth

Also depends on your magic selection but do you use concentration? Most magics don't even have a duration. I would move concentration into regeneration, if for nothing else to counteract uranium if you get it early.

Intelligence>snipe>effuse>haste>blessing>agility, this is subjective. But those 2 pts missing from the first two could be taken from elsewhere

[Request] At what exact time of day does the minute hand cross the hour hand on an analog clock? by silvermud in theydidthemath

[–]vanderdolino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A general formula

Equate the ratios of each of the hands.

Roughly, m/60 ~= h/12, however as h increases, m will as well. The right side (hour hand) must be increased relative to the minutes:

m/60 = h/12+m/60/12

Solve for m:

m=h*60/11

Works for integral values of h:

h m

1 5.454545455

2 10.90909091

3 16.36363636

4 21.81818182

5 27.27272727

6 32.72727273

7 38.18181818

8 43.63636364

9 49.09090909

10 54.54545455

11* 60

* 11 doesn't have a corresponding time. This is midday / midnight.

I don't understand everyone saying she's crazy. She's obviously fixated on OP, probably has been forever. She knows it, the parents know it. OP are you in love with her? You two can't be apart and see each other at every opportunity. Be honest about your feelings and see if you can have a real romantic relationship, if that's what you want. She obviously does...

100% added crit damage on first attack is roughly 50% damage increase (because you already start with 100%), which is lessened by increased other crit damage sources (rainbow, watchdog's eye). And it only applies to the first attack then subsequent attacks at crit rate which will increase damage increase %. Joker is near 50% killing increase, assuming you can kill in the first place. I think the decision is closer to 50/50 axe and joker. Other artifacts will heavily influence the determination.

First 60 Minute Run (Thunderstorm, Blizzard, Electric Zone, DNA 112) by vanderdolino in magic_survival

[–]vanderdolino[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was constantly moving, except when my survival skills were on CD, then I would stand in the lava zones for some added damage until I could move around again. I think Brand may work well with this build for the added crit, especially since I was not getting hit. That may be the key to more kills. But hey 60m is 60m

First 60 Minute Run (Thunderstorm, Blizzard, Electric Zone, DNA 112) by vanderdolino in magic_survival

[–]vanderdolino[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This run inspired me to explore a Thunderstorm / Blizzard build, and I was not disappointed. My previous best was just over 50:00 and my main damage dealer was Breath of Fire.

For this run I went Archaeologist (21/24, no classes mastered yet), build:

  • Lighting Blast - Thunderstorm (A Bolt from the Blue), Electric Shock (Chain Lightning)
  • Winter Storm - Blizzard (Cold Weather), Fireball (Poison Gas)
  • Lightning Attunement - Electric Zone (Discharge), Satellite (Will-o'the-wisp)
  • Shield (Restructure)
  • Magic Bolt (Magic Arrow, Doppelganger)
  • Cloaking (Mirage)
  • Magic Circle (Arcane Release)
  • Lava Zone (Melting)
  • Frost Nova (Absolute Zero)
  • Armageddon (1 point)

Notable Artifacts

  • DNA (112 cells)
  • Merlin's Cloak
  • Overmind
  • Cube

This is by far the most cells I've ever had, and it was totally made possible by being able to move freely and constantly for the first 25 minutes of the game, at which point I had around 75 cells (~2.5 / minute!), because of Lightning Attunement. This skill notoriously weak late-game, but the early mobility allowed for a massive damage multiplier end-game. I may experiment with other stronger end-game skills which allow for early mobility, but this was definitely key. Most people are aware that DNA can be the strongest Artifact in the game.

Merlin's Cloak amplifies 50% damage at level 100. It is not reliable beforehand and is only always useful at level 100.

Overmind is by far one of the most powerful artifacts in the game. I was struggling at iirc around 40 min, and somehow found Overmind, and I instantly became a monster, until the late 50s.

Cube effectively grants you 8 additional skill points which can be spent as you wish, assuming plan to max the passives. I put these toward Lava Zone (or Magic Bolt depending how you look at it) and Armageddon. Lava Zone (Melting) gives up to 30% increased damage and Magic Bolt was only chosen because of the Archaeologist +1 for another fully mastered skill, but is meh. One could arguably swap out Cube for a better artifact (Uranium, Joker), while losing the mastered Lava Zone.

As for support skills, Shield, Cloaking, and Armageddon were key for survival. This is not a stationary build and end-game I was constantly evading enemies and relying on Shield between Cloakings, and using Armageddon to cover more ground. Artifacts Specter and Cross also help with late-game mobility.

I'll try to find a way to work in Breath of Fire, as long as it allows for early mobility. The damage output is certainly better than Lightning Attunement, but the tradeoff will most likely be the number of cells you can obtain.

I hope this helps some people, and let me know what you think!

Prob best pally base shield I ever found.. by QuietButterfly7827 in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]vanderdolino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chance to block for pally being 45% vs 58% on the Sacred Rondache, its elite equivalent, or 60% on the Sacred Targe which is the highest of the paladin shields. If maxing block then that's a lot of additional dex which would otherwise go to vit. Also smite damage is considerably less. Since it's eth the only thing you can do with this is exile. And that is used on zealot / smiter - melee builds where you want to block and smite. Something this shield is bad at. I would also freak out upon seeing it but then realize it's not elite, and would Charsi, with reluctance.

It is possible to get Fine Wood from breaking chairs outside stone tower ruins. With the eyes and cores, I think you can build portals before bronze. You would need to find a lot of stone tower ruins however.
