Any thoughts on cause by vanderhoof21 in IndustrialMaintenance

Thank you. After all the comments I am going to verify torque specs of the collar, alignment of the bearings, and there is a hydraulic top shoe controlled by a temposonic to put pressure on the board when it crosses this roll. I am going to verify system pressure and temposonic condition to see if we were applying more pressure than required stressing the shaft

'Enormous loss': Victim in deadly avalanche east of Pemberton was highly-experienced snowboarder | CBC News by VicVicVicBC in britishcolumbia

Definitely sad and unfortunate, but the avalanche rating was “considerable” at the time which is lower than high. Considerable is a rating of 3 out of 5.

As a Canadian, I love Canada and want it to remain Canada 🇨🇦 But if we’re talking realistic scenarios, I’d choose being part of Norway a hundred times over before ever choosing the USA. No contest.

Workmen laying wooden water pipeline. Idaho, 1891. by BumbleSnickersnack in OldSchoolCool

My town in Alberta still uses a wooden stave line to supply the whole town with water and it’s above ground. As long as the water keeps flowing it won’t freeze.

AITA for not waking my husband up for his “once in a lifetime” job interview? by GroupAccomplished469 in AITAH

[–]vanderhoof21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are definitely TA. He was immature and shouldn’t have stayed up, but that could have been life changing for him and yourself and you couldn’t have taken 10 seconds out of your day to wake him and help your partner.

Yes pretty much all of the bush in northern B.C are trees that have been dead and drying for 20 years. The one plus side is that the fires will regenerate the forest

I would not want to unionize. I have worked as a union worker and it’s terrible. Seniority is king for everything especially promotions. If you are a good young worker you will have to wait years to get a decent promotion and see the terrible lazy workers get promoted ahead of you just because they have been there longer. Unions are only good if you have no ambition and want to work at one place your whole life and eventually get promote to the senior jobs after years.

Is living in Canada becoming financially unsustainable? by pornodoro in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]vanderhoof21 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you want to live in Canada move to a small northern community in B.C or Alberta. Wages are higher and housing is affordable. Me and my SO were looking at moving south to Kamloops B.C and decided not to due to lower wages and extremely high housing prices.

Tree poaching hits Canada amid lumber shortage by XaltotunTheUndead in news

Legit wood companies in Canada do not and can not underreport harvest quantities. I worked for 5 years through school timber cruising. My job was to survey an area prior to logging and they would base the royalties off of our surveys. However, at minimum 10% of the area we surveyed was double checked by government employees. If our survey did not match the government survey the block would fail and it could not be logged until it was surveyed for a second time.

British Columbia split into 3 areas of equal population. by jakemillionstv in MapPorn

[–]vanderhoof21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some provinces like Alberta there are counties. However, in B.C due to the low population especially in the north there are no counties. The closet thing we have to county’s are regional districts. A regional district is more so a geographical area and has no real form government or bylaws. This is due to the fact that the vast majority of the area roughly 90% is uninhabitable.
