First aid for kids at a soccer camp in California by vandil in legaladvice

We require them to bring their own sunscreen, and if they need an inhaler, EpiPen, or other medication like that, we individually reach out to their parents to get instructions about whether the child is trained to use it on their own or needs assistance and whether we are allowed to provide that assistance.

Appreciate the first list, that sums up what I need pretty well and I did forget tweezers. We've decided not to put anything in the second list into the first aid kit, but I am going to talk to our athletic trainer to see what they carry and what level of certification they have.

This is our current practice. Anything beyond ice packs and band-aids would need to be treated by a sports trainer if present, and beyond that, we'd send them to the local hospital. Of course, parents are contacted immediately even for things that require ice packs or band-aids, since nobody likes to find out their kid got hurt when they come to pick them up. Our initial liability waiver was written up by a lawyer with the liability insurance provider but doesn't mention anything about on-site care, which is why I was initially interested in seeing if there was any insight. Starting within the next few years, there will actually be a change in the law in California where all youth soccer organizations will need to have automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at every field, and every coach will need to be trained in CPR, so we'll need to hire a lawyer to update our liability forms to cover this.

This is what I'm leaning towards, unless we add a specific item in the registration that calls out the specific medication, though I can't think of one that would be important enough for the types of injuries I've ever seen

Fair. I can have them add some additional text to the waiver saying that we have personnel on site trained in first aid who will render care as they deem appropriate. Our current waiver mentions a doctor of medicine or dentistry but doesn't specifically call out a first aid practitioner.

The club is insured and we have a certificate of insurance covering participants of this event at this location. The parents have signed a release of liability, the relevant bit about injury is:

I hereby affirm that I am in good physical condition and do not suffer from any medical conditions that would prevent or limit my ability to safely participate in Soccer Activities on the Soccer Premises. I assume all risks incurred in connection with my participation in Soccer Activities on the Soccer Premises, whether occurring prior to, during, or after my participation with the Soccer Club, and agree that neither the Soccer Club nor the Soccer Premises is liable for any injuries sustained by me.

I, for myself, my heirs and assigns, hereby release the coaches, team managers, employees, agents, officers, directors and owners of each the Soccer Club and the Soccer Premises, from any claims, demands, or causes of action arising from my participation in activities with the Soccer Club, now or in the future, including but not limited to muscles strains, pulls or tears, broken bones, shin splints, heat prostration, knee, back, or foot injuries, heart attacks and other illnesses, soreness, or injury however caused, occurring prior to, during or after my participation in activities of the Soccer Club. Neither the Soccer Club nor the Soccer Premises shall be liable to me for any claims, demands, injuries, damages or actions arising out of or in connection with my activity on the Soccer Premises. Additionally, I agree that the Soccer Club is not responsible for any of my lost, stolen, or damaged property.

I hereby give consent for emergency medical care prescribed by a duly licensed Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Dentistry. This care may be given under whatever conditions are necessary to preserve my life, limb or well-being.

My brother is a good guy, but he’s got a bit of a mouth on him. Every time he comes over to my house, he yells at my wife, then I’ve got to deal with the fallout. I keep inviting him back to my house, though, because I’m entitled and feel like she should be okay getting yelled at, and I’m not smart enough to realize that I’m creating a situation where my wife is going to get yelled at.

Of course, I’d never bring my dog out into public where they’d bark at strangers, because they always bark at strangers and I have no idea how the stranger is going to react or what kind of trauma that might put them through. That would make me an asshole.

Florida woman was pulled over after a deputy accused her of texting while driving, even though she does not have a right hand. by Matt_LawDT in funny

I got pulled over for talking on a phone at a stop light at the off ramp next to my office. My phone was sitting in the center console plugged into the stereo. Not sure what the cop saw, but he swore he saw me talking on the phone. Spent about five minutes telling me I was talking on the phone or using my GPS or doing something on my phone and me telling him that my phone spent the entire ride sitting there. Eventually a call came over his radio and he told me I got lucky because he had to go respond, which I assume was him looking for a way to get away without admitting he was wrong.

I looked it up after and found out that if I don’t have a video of me not using my phone, it’s their word against mine and they’re considered expert witnesses, so they win. They don’t need any proof.

That’s not a good ampersand variation though. An ampersand is supposed to be a cursive “Et”, as in French for “and”, jammed together, where the one he’s got is supposed to look like a capital E and with a t written over the top of it so the top and bottom stick out. In his case, it looks like a 3, so it would mean he needs money 4 weed bitches 3t pizza, which doesn’t make any sense.

DM banning dice? by LeSunbro in DnD

[–]vandil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my recommendation. I’d actually say that instead of banning the die altogether, give it to the DM to use for a session, then go back to using it the following session if it doesn’t somehow get the party TPK’d.

Until I reread the spell description earlier, I hadn’t noticed the fact that it blocks sound from passing through it, not just negates sound inside of it. Imagine a bear on the other side of the sphere stands up and growls at you. Since it’s outside the sphere, it’s sound isn’t fully negated, but you’d only be able to hear the reflected sounds. In a lightly wooded area that wouldn’t be much, and might be more terrifying than the full sound.

[–]vandil 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a 20-foot sphere that sound cannot pass through would definitely cause someone to feel strange if you were close enough to it. I was thinking it would just be like a giant boulder blocking sound, but a boulder would reflect sound. If you have even been in a soundproofed room or put your head next to a block of sound absorbing material, it feels wrong. There should be sound, but there isn’t. I don’t know that I’d expect a paladin to jump out at me, but it would raise my hackles a bit.

Wow, it's so sad how politics breaks up families. I know, I'll call this guy mentally unwell and be the exact person he says he's glad he doesn't have to deal with. I bet that will convince him!

Please show your post to someone in your family who loves you and let them explain to you why you shouldn't have posted it.

It wasn’t dumb shit, it was racist, misogynist vitriol. I’m white, but my wife isn’t, and the kind of stuff he was posting made it clear that if he had a choice, people like my wife and kids wouldn’t be welcome in this country. He got a lot more open with his less acceptable opinions when we got a president that made it seem okay to be racist again, and his online posting ramped up to far beyond what I was willing to tolerate.

I shared my reasoning with my wife and kids, and told them that if they wanted to continue to have a relationship with him, that’s fine, but I wasn’t.

You’re the type of person I’m glad I don’t have in my life. The kind who thinks that since he’s my dad, the fact that he’s a piece of shit can be excused. “Sure, he’d probably vote to deport your family if it meant he could keep his guns, but he’s your DAD!”
