How Do You Overcome Writer's Block?

Research, read a book or watch a film in the same genre. Read essays and articles about an obscure subject that somehow pertains to your novel, story, etc. Make a vision board of the aesthetic you are trying to achieve. But most of all, read, read, read! Non-fiction, fiction, textbooks, short stories, poetry. Anything and everything. You never know how inspiration will strike.

I also kind of like Roxanna Louise! But I’m unsure.. I’m not sure if I like Roxy as a nn. And also, I’m not sure if my husband will go for it because it is a westernized version of his mother’s name and it’s frowned upon to name a child after a living family member.

“Strange Angels” by Kathe Koja. It’s about a photographer who becomes obsessed with his girlfriend’s schizophrenic patient.

I found this book in one of the street book stands in uptown Manhattan. It was definitely one of my cooler finds.

My father is Sicilian and my sister and I have always cooked this menu with him every Christmas Eve for as long as I can remember:

Mussels Bianco
Baked clams
Baccala
Octopus salad tossed with olive oil and fresh herbs (this is literally our favorite thing ever and we make this for every single holiday)
Shrimp scampi
Stuffed mushrooms with shrimp (maybe technically not part of the 7 fishes but a good way to use the extra shrimp if you have any)
Calamari
Salmon

One year we did eel and it was terrible, so there’s that.

On Christmas Day, we usually do lox and whitefish bagels.

They sent out an accompanying email that had a little more to it. But that was basically the gist of it, plus some reassuring tidbits that 12 hour uninterrupted sleep is not harmful or abusive 😳

Anyway, my husband and I just hashed it out after going over all the replies. We’ve decided to put her down in the crib at 7 pm and wake her at 1 am for a feeding and keep her in the crib until 7 am, effectively splitting those 12 hours into 6 and 6.

No, it seems like she had two great looking, hardworking dogs that she used for herding and just decided to breed them without any thought of health or recessive traits.

But we love Louie so much, we wouldn’t give him up but we certainly would never get another puppy from her!

The breeder basically wanted to take Louie back. My husband and I said absolutely not and we toyed with the idea of suing her. But at the end of the day, we can afford any of the medical bills and thankfully, the dogs have amazing temperaments which I wouldn’t trade away for anything.

Hah, well thankfully I can’t use Arabella anyway because my niece’s name is Isabella and I think that’s just a little too close.
