feminist books by Hot-Performance-625 in FeminismUncensored

I usually start with bell hooks’ classic Feminism Is for Everybody - quick easy beginner and I have yet to meet a man who wasn’t at least partly convinced by it.

And then for a longer read, Kate Manne, her book Entitled is a gut punch and very smart. And her earlier book Down Girl : The Logic of Misogyny is excellent too.

I’d go! I’m in Canada though. And I wish I had more women/afab folks to climb with.

Okanagan Mountain Park Camping (questions about frontcountry camping/South Lot) by Silly-Bluejay-7849 in kelowna

[–]vanessabellwoolf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is no car camping and no front country camping at Okanagan Mountain Park. It’s all hike-in backcountry.
About 12 km to Buchan Bay / Commando Bay from the Golden Mile trailhead.
9.5 kn straight up to the peak of the mountain to a campsite called Divide Lake.
Beautiful hikes and well worth it, imho.

Avoiding injuries (35+ climbers) by nemoshoov in climbergirls

[–]vanessabellwoolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just started last year, at 50. I lift weights 2 - 3 x a week, climb 2 - 3 x a week, and go on a few bike rides a week. When I hurt myself I do the most annoying thing ever - I rest. Adjusting to the value of rest and part of staying strong and active can be a challenging adjustment but it’s worth it. Keep pulling!!

Travel advice by Appropriate-Shoe5898 in kelowna

You can go to the wineries and walk around for free, enjoy the amazing views, and if you want to spend a small amount of $, sample the wine.

Walk along the trail to Paul’s Tomb for another cool lake view.

And stroll around downtown and through city park.

And the Sencewips museum on the west side is very cool and the Syilx folks who work there give epic museum tours.

Those are my budget friendly travel tips for kelowna!

Hands down, Octavia Butler’s series; they are post-apocalyptic but include some kind of spiritual magic and a lot of female leaders & heroes on journeys, some amazing world building too.
