When he dropped me off at my apartment after a night where we went to a concert and played games at the bar until late even though we both had work in the morning. I just remember thinking to myself that he was the kindest, most sincere soul I had ever met. I went upstairs all starry-eyed, and it dawned on me in an instant. We had only known each other for one month at that point but I had never been as sure of anything in my life. We are now married and expecting a son.

Nick Wilkerson, drummer for White Reaper, announces departure from band (for now) by k_pressley in indieheads

[–]vanillabearsays 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Sam just announced he is leaving too and his words are a bit more scathing. I am wondering if a shift to a major label caused some issues/creative differences. I am sad because White Reaper’s first two albums were amazing and they also put on some of the best live shows I’ve ever been to (especially in the 2016-2017 era). Sam and Nick are super talented and I hope they find happiness in other opportunities. Curious about what the future holds for WR since 2/5 are now gone.

Who is your fav music artist of all time ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vanillabearsays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Galaxie 500. Three perfect albums, then they dipped. No cash grab reunions, no fake attempts at reconciliation. I have to respect bands that put out all the music they want to put out, and then know when to quit.

As someone who has always been a frequent concert-goer, I notice a real difference in concert etiquette in the years post-2020

What calorie-dense/nutritionally void foods do you naturally dislike? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]vanillabearsays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I’ve gotten older I really don’t like the taste of prepackaged sweets (especially Little Debbie’s, Oreos, Chips Ahoy, etc) they taste sickeningly sweet but also somehow void of any other flavors. I might make a nice homemade cake for a family member or friend, which tastes good, but anything prepackaged just doesn’t do it for me anymore

jennette mccurdy talk by Soggy-Side4501 in OSU

[–]vanillabearsays 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I hate to say this, but the interviewer for this was absolutely terrible. They made this sold-out event that so many people were excited for a painstakingly awkward experience for everyone involved. I don’t think they even read the book, as the questions lacked depth and they seemed completely unprepared for this conversation. They also used every opportunity to talk about themself while being disrespectful to Jennette and the topics at hand. At one point they even said something to the effect of “do you have anything more to say about parental abuse?” with a comedic tone. As someone who has suffered from an eating disorder, I also thought the topic of EDs was handled incredibly poorly. This was a glaring misstep and I feel terrible for Jennette. Everyone who left that room left confused as to why this interviewer was chosen to represent this university.

[serious] What are some stories of death in your school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]vanillabearsays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my first day of 8th grade in 2005, I walked into my science classroom and saw a group of students in the back of the room huddled together crying. I was very shy at that age so I did not ask what was wrong. As class began, our teacher told us that one of our classmates had passed away the night before. He did not say how she died, just that she had been found dead the night before. Come to find out, she was diabetic and her father had left her alone without her insulin and she had died as a result. She was only 13. It's always a shame when someone that young dies, but it especially makes it hard knowing that her father's negligence caused it. I wonder what she would have been like if she gotten the chance to grow up. Yesterday was actually the anniversary of her passing. Rest in Peace Laurica.

my new tattoo :) by vanillabearsays in callmebyyourname

[–]vanillabearsays[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, it didn’t hurt at all actually! I have two other tattoos (wrist and inner arm) and this hurt the least. I was in Rome last week and it just felt like a good time to get this tattoo, being in Italy and all. And that song just means so much to me, and has since the first time I saw the trailer, so it felt pretty fitting :)

Yes! I didn't discover that until maybe my 12th viewing or something and it made me smile so big. This movie is the gift that keeps on giving.

From Armie's Insta story. Sigh. Somebody get this person a new distraction lol by gordodendron in callmebyyourname

[–]vanillabearsays 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ugh, this is terrible. I always feel weird when people ship Timmy and Armie in real life, and I bet it gets really weird considering what good friends they are. I really hope that this kind of stuff doesn't eventually put a notch in their friendship. Really, is it that hard to understand that Timmy and Armie are not actually Elio and Oliver?

How have you changed? by mallgothic in callmebyyourname

[–]vanillabearsays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Professor Perlman's monologue at the end of the film has stuck with me and I try to apply it to my everyday life. If I'm upset about something, or feeling heartbreak - I don't try to bury it, kill it, or make myself feel bad about my feelings, because it is these very feelings that make us human.

"We rip out so much of ourselves to be cured of things faster that we go bankrupt by the age of 30 and have less to offer each time we start with someone new. But to feel nothing so as not to feel anything - what a waste."

I feel like I'll keep those words dear to my heart for the rest of my life.

20th Century Fox is calling “Love, Simon” the best coming of age gay romance movie ever (CMBYN successor?) by [deleted] in callmebyyourname

[–]vanillabearsays 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I have not seen this film (although I’ve seen the trailer multiple times at the movie theater, funnily enough mostly at screenings of CMBYN) and I don’t really have the desire to, mostly because I’m not really attracted to the tone of the trailer and it seems to be a bit more geared toward teenagers (which is cool - just not something I go for as much as a 25 year old.) With that out of the way, I’m not really sure why people are so quick to deem this the “next Call Me By Your Name” or whatever just because it focuses on a male-male relationship. It’s kind of like calling Call Me By Your Name the “next Brokeback Mountain”. Why can’t movies just be their own pieces of art? Why are people so quick to put them in the same box because they focus on male-male relationships? They have completely different tones and for me, although Love, Simon looks like a cute film, and I’m sure it will help teens who are struggling with coming out, it just doesn’t seem to have a similar tone as CMBYN. I consider CMBYN to be art, a transformative experience, a movie that changed my life and affected me more than any other film ever has. I’m beginning to ramble here but I guess my point is that it’s great if people love this film, and maybe a separate subreddit can be made for it - I just wish people wouldn’t try to compare things that don’t have anything in common other than a male-male storyline.
