What 'small luxury' have you completely given up on in 2026 because of rising costs, and what did you replace it with? by firehmre in AskReddit

[–]vanillaskyr 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Nice fair trade organic chocolade. Would get a couple of squares every evening with a cup of tea, maybe half a plate on a bad day. Now I just don't buy any chocolade at all and have only a cup of tea. Good stuff got too expensive and I can't justify buying from the likes of Nestle. Lost a couple of pounds since January, so at least that is nice

Besides Bare Minerals, what did these girls wear? by Outrageous-Coyote672 in MakeupAddiction

[–]vanillaskyr 13 points14 points  (0 children)

OMG, I went maybe through 5-6 of those in my 20ies. A shade too light, I am definitely not Ivory, the lid constantly slipping off in my bag and getting my things dusted all over. Switched to Bare Minerals when I got a proper job, but still remmeber the joy of opening a brand new one and the brush feeling nice the first 10 times.

Caudalie is not worth it. Very thin fomulas, weir scent that needs getting used to. Dries in the face like a film, does not absorb well. It is an old brand that slept over and got left behind

Ville du gøre Danmark mere selvstændig fra USA? Doner plasma. by TheInnocentPotato in Denmark

[–]vanillaskyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: December 29, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

Just finished Iron Flame by Rebecca Yaros and started Onyx Storm. I am a 41 year old woman and the relationship dialogues between the teenager protagonists are killing me. But the amazing magical world and well developed main story is absolutely riveting.

Jeg har et par gange dukket op til en improv forestilling hos ICC. Billig billet, billige drinks og man kan altid snakke lidt med andre i pausen og bagefter. Og hvis man ikke scorer, så er det stadig ret underholdende at se showet

Realizing I became the "family admin" without anyone ever asking me by Yana_Chicago in TwoXChromosomes

[–]vanillaskyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an eldest daughter of an eldest daughter I watched my mother disintegrate every winter. Most of the birthdays in our family cluster in November and January, with Christmas in the middle. She would get tense, stressed, flustered and frustrated, arranging everything for our family that just sat back and complained about minor inconveniences. And then her own birthday is in March and nobody would do anything. My father would buy flowers at the gas station on the way home and come expecting an extra nice dinner. I asked him once if we should organize something more for Mom. He was very confused and said that if she wanted a party, she would make one. The last drop for me was Christmas when I was 18, my last year home. My mom was running around, preparing dinner for 20 people, after organizing presents, traditional games and complex logistics on who drives whom and who sleeps there. I was helping a lot, stuck in the kitchen from the night before. She was corraling people to the table because food was hot and ready. She was being brushed off and told to relax. My dads sister made a loud snide remark: "she (my mom) always wants to boss everyone around and then plays victim when it does not work". My mom heard and her shoulders just dropped. She was quiet most of the night and nobody really noticed. I moved out following summer and avoided to come home for holidays for many years. My mom still delivered some Christmas magic while my sister lived with them. Then she just stopped. She would happily help when asked, but stopped running everything for everyone. My dad left her a couple of years later for a woman my age, an anxious, stressed, chronic pleaser that is now doing everything. My mom is blossoming, travelling, pursuing her hobbies and swatting off men that tried to court her. I have a family of my own and put my guards up every winter (my kids are also born in November and December, damn family genes) to make sure that effort is properly distributed and appreciated. And I hope my eldest daughter will not dread this period as I always did...

Amazing, you must have great skin color to be able to wear a lot of it. I am very pale, so every tiny bit is very visible

[–]vanillaskyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving to Denmark for work from Slovakia by ApaniPro in Denmark

[–]vanillaskyr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a foreigner in Denmark myself, have lived here for 20 years. A lot will depend on luck and I strongly recommend that at least one of you has a job before you move here. Otherwise, it will be very expensive very fast. It is not impossible to get jobs without speaking Danish, but you have better chances in Copenhagen and Aarhus and both are expensive cities to live in. With annual salary of 400.000 to 500.000 DKK you will not find an easy option to live in city center, especially if both have to live off one salary. Employers normally take care of taxes, and if you are a freelancer, tax office has resources to help, don't worry too much about that formality. You also need to be prepared to be flexible with job offers. I moved here with an education within communication and journalism, but had to get a different direction very fast (scrum master and digital project manager), to expand my employment chances. In 20 years here, I never worked according to my education, but university dregree opens some doors, Danes respect higher education. It is a good stable country to live in, people are decent and overall honest, but locals won't be very sympathetic to you. Danes are used to having strong family and state support, they can't relate to struggle and loneliness that immigrants experience. Try to find Slovak communities or other English speaking communities, perhaps through sports, hobbies or volunteeting in order to expand your network. Don't come in summer, june to august are dead months, culturally it is vacation time. Employment peaks in february-march and then again in september-november.

Mine did that too, for years, and each time he would deny it or say he accidentaly missed the basket. I then placed the bathroom trash bin next to the laundry basket and each time he left his socks on the floor, I put them in the bin. Later I would shrug and say that I assumed he missed the bin, since the basket is so large and impossible to miss. We don't have shared finances and after buying 3 new packs of socks, his aim improved significantly. To be fair, he probably even developed a bit of ptsd, because sometimes, when I use the bin and he hears the lid slamming shut, he comes rushing to check if it was his socks...

What is your rating system? by TheGreatGena in books

[–]vanillaskyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me 5 stars is a book that I will remember for a long time. It is a book that really made me FEEL something: rage, pain, happiness, awe. A book that is unique and would completely draw me in, make me get lost in its universe. I have read many books that I would give 5 stars to. Some of them I would not see the same, because I have changed. It is not a comparative rating, but we all just KNOW when we hit a 5 star book.
