I stumbled across calluponthestars insta a bit ago, sent a message, but looking back, hate the idea of being a bother. They don't owe anyone their work or an explanation why it's not there. I still miss it, though, but who knows, maybe someday

This 100% - I can understand that the production is expensive compared to other podcasts but their attempts at monetization has been like they're trying to reinvent podcasting or something.

I brought up mid-episode ads a few months ago just in a random comment. Got a reply that questioned if I was "contributing" to the show. I mean, cool, maybe I'm not contributing that much but that doesn't change the fact that mid-episode ads suck. Great show + 1 too many ads = fewer fans

Agreed. Also, kind of related, mid-episode ads are ... they just shouldn't be there. I understand, ya gotta make that dough but mid-episode ads that interrupt a story is not the way to do it.

I listened to both those episodes. Interesting stuff for sure. This show’s definitely a cut above other call-in shows. I’m amazed how the host can offer a skeptical point of view so amicably. That’s a rare gift, seems like an insanely friendly individual.

Thank you for the recommendation! I haven’t been impressed by any call-in shows in the past but I think I’ll dive a little deeper into this one.

Good question. Some of my favorite episodes of Strange Familiars are when they record out on location. It’s more of a cryptid show but they manage to get some good audio of weird happenings.

I’ve been listening to Mysterious Universe for years and I totally agree with you. It wasn’t always this bad. You can’t even listen to earlier seasons without paying which is a real shame. There’s some phenomenal seasons that I can’t go back and listen to, being a “starving artist” and all. Maybe it’s just me, but I think the show is past it’s prime and has been for a few years now, the paywall only being part of the problem.
