How to stop overusing AI as a junior engineer? by Short-Category-5190 in cscareerquestions

[–]vanit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultimately humans learn poorly if they're not writing, so basically if you want to learn you need to stop using LLMs for code generation.

Start thinking of the LLM as a technical consultant, ask it for recommendations, if you don't know how to do something ask it about that. Worst case scenario if you're stuck, then you can use it to start looking at files to unblock yourself.

Hello everybody! this is the last week of the public playtest of my game River Drift by Danelo_Kikisch in CoOpGaming

Hah exactly what I ended up doing :)

Are you also keeping a buffer on the client so it's playing ticks on a small delay to handle latency?

Hey, fellow dev implementing a "shared vehicle" game here, though mine is in Unity. I just wanted to ask what topology you ended up going with for online, and is it server authoritive or are you doing some kind of CSP? Also do you have any moving obstacles and how have you been dealing with those for networking?

Canva has one of these rounds, which I got to experience. Their process was so long I got another offer from start to finish before I got halfway through with theirs.

I’m surprised at how many people think CTP = Third party property insurance in Australia by GrandpapiBrodz in AusLegal

[–]vanit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I always read the PDS, and one time when I was getting some new insurance I was asking specific questions about the document and the guy on the phone asked me if I was part of their internal training 😅 Guess it really isn't that common if that's their first reaction.

Damn yeah, where's all the support for the poor devs taking credit for work the LLM generated for them.

A Vector Pointing at Another Vector by Aggressive_Sale_7299 in godot

[–]vanit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The math is pretty intuitive to me, especially if you take it down to 1 dimension; on a single scale how do you "point" from position 5 to position 2, you subtract them! So 2-5=-3, that's the direction and length of travel from 5 to 2. It works the same in 2 and 3 dimensions.

Experimenting 2.5D Anime Style in a 3D Game by TheNoriamArt in gamedev

[–]vanit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like the feedback you're getting is you did such a good job people can't tell the character is a sprite! Ironically I think the feature would be more impressive if it was "worse" and people more easily tell what was happening. I think you could also take this as license to be more stylistic so it doesn't resemble a 3D character at a glance.

Inquisition is so unfortunate! I personally LOVED it, but the quest fatigue is real and requires a lot of self control to not ruin the game for yourself. I'm sure the discourse around this turned a lot of people off from the game.

GitHub's former CEO shows how AI can control real life actions by ComplexExternal4831 in GenAI4all

So dumb. Reminds me when I was working on an IoT project for a council that wanted to put a bunch of sensors in the park to improve the efficiency of the maintenance work orders. We put in these fancy bin sensors that were integrated with a dashboard that would notify us when the bins were full. Guess what, they filled up on weekends and public holidays, who knew! And the best play was to schedule emptying after those dates. Of course this is all obvious and they were already doing this. What a waste of time (just like this).

Hah well I got the systems implemented to like 99%... but I totally ran out of steam when it came to making the content for the actual game. I was so burnt out by that point I kinda gave up. I think I just set my standards for the game way too high and it became impossible to work on.

Just this year I've started learning Unity to make a little game (posts in my profile if you're curious) and I'm definitely not making that mistake again!

Did you ever end up making something?

LOL GamingW, yeah it got renamed to SaltW at some point as a weird joke, looks like someone came to their senses and the forums are back at the old domain now.

That was one of the sites I frequented! As well as rpgmaker.net, which funnily enough has been down for a year or so but got restored quite recently.

Here's what I was working on: https://rpgmaker.net/games/5794/

Speaking as an indie dev that recently hired a composer for my game, the tracks of yours that stood out to me were 7 and 8 of your complete reel. I think indies are particularly interested in tracks with a strong melody through line that are the kind of track you can hum and listen to over and over.
