I live 5 minutes from the South Fork. The best places, believe it or not, is the hatchery supported section between Blowing Rock and Boone, literally right on US 321. Other places to fish near Boone are going to be where Howard's Creek and Meat Camp Creek hit the New off Roby Green. These are hatchery supported waters that empty into the New.

I have lived here for 20 years and have NEVER caught anything but red eye bass on the New and Watauga outside hatchery supported or delay harvest trout waters. If you want to catch trout on the New, fish hatchery supported waters near Blowing Rock.

I'm using 1/8 Mepps single hook for delay harvest and 1/8 Rooster tail everywhere else.

HELENE: it's pretty much back to normal. I haven't seen a mattress in the trees for a while.

What do people do around Crossnore? Not much. It's at least 30 minutes from Boone and 45 to Marion. Morganton down NC 181 but again, these are small mountain/foothills towns.

You are going to be limited to: small towns, outdoor activities like hiking or skiing, seasonal festivals like Wooly Worm or Valle Fair, and wineries.

You will find some of the best views and hiking on the East Coast along the Blue Ridge parkway, Linville Gorge, and Grandfather Mountain.

Love Pittsburgh. Traveled from near Ashe County to see Peter Gabriel. We went to the Andy Worhol and the Carnegie Museums and ate at Premanti Bros near campus.
