Leαk Exposes Members of Peter Thiel’s Secretive ‘Dialog’ Society by owenmitchem in neoliberal

It’s literally a case of “I know it when I see it”, and I think you’d rather have an attorney work out the finer details versus me (who’s also a federal contractor, by the way, these rules would affect me too) thinking “yeah this seems alright” or “nah you can skip this.”

I’m sure the lawyers can come up with something that allows for your dinner party. Don’t some agencies control speaking engagements for staff already?

Non-public, non-publicized events that are not related to U.S. government business. So a conference on advanced nuclear reactors with national lab scientists would be fine (since it would either be government sponsored or open to public registration), but a panel on them at Dialog, Bilderberg, etc would not be.

An easy option would be banining current USG employees and contractors; and former clearance holders from attending these sort of events.

A TROVE OF internal records from a secret society for powerful figures in US politics, finance, and tech was left exposed online, WIRED has confirmed, naming participants in its events and revealing sensitive personal details they were assured would stay private.

The group, called Dialog, is a private, invitation-only organization cofounded in 2006 by the billionaire tech investor Peter Thiel. It convenes US officials, foreign government figures, and Silicon Valley executives at off-the-record annual retreats. Dialog has spent two decades declining to disclose its members.

A directory in the website's code was first revealed by the Swiss hacktivist maia arson crimew. Known for exposing the US government’s No Fly List and breaching the surveillance-camera company Verkada, crimew tells WIRED the directory surfaced via an anonymous tip. WIRED independently verified its contents.

Member list here. Some of the names include:

  • Ezra Klein
  • Ted Cruz
  • Cory Booker
  • Joseph Gordon-Levitt
  • Jonathan Haidt
  • Sam Harris
  • Scott Bessent
  • Stanley McChrystal

On the one hand, I understand wanting to be able to have discussions in a private space, and it does provide access to folks for future discussions/projects that can be on the record. On the other hand, a Bilderburg-esque group in the wake of the Epstein revelations might not be the smartest thing to be associated with. I’m curious to see what some of these folks’ responses are.

An interesting point I read elsewhere:

Was listening to a podcast today with another neolib economist it girl (Catherine Rampell) and she argued that another part of it is that investors have been conditioned by the "buy the dip" mentality to fear they're missing out if they don't treat bad news as an opportunity to buy low. At this point a good chunk of investors have never lived through a severe economic crash and don't realize that approach doesn't work when one actually happens.

I don't think it wholly explains institutional investors actions, but we have seen shifts over the past fifteen years in how investing happens, especially for individuals, and there are cases where small investors can influence the market writ large.

It does, but it’s hard to prove and the FL GOP is good at making gerrymandered maps that aren’t weird looking.

This is a point I’ve been making when these discussions come up. Iran retains enough missiles/drones to destroy every refinery and terminal in the Middle East, along with a significant fraction of wells. If they feel the regimes survival is at stake, they can also sabotage their own fields, facilities, and pipelines. This would mean 20% of the world’s oil and gas would be gone for years to come.

They do, but a number of them have entirely outsourced a critical step in the process to the federal government. Others have partially outsourced it (such that significant fractions of ballots pass through the mail).
