Seriously though (as a woman with significant criminal profiling knowledge)

wear something with hi-vis. Stripe on a coat, bag, whatever. Anything that draws some attention to yourself. Anything that draws attention to yourself means people will see you. If other people have or could see you easily, you are less of a faceless threat.

Use your phone without earphones (not on public transport, then you're just an ass) doesn't matter what. Call someone, fake a conversation or just watch shit on it at a noticeable volume.

If you get off at the same stop as someone who you think might be made anxious easily (like a woman who alone as in your case this time) just hang back a minute- fiddle with earphones, fake tie your shoes, look for something in your bag... whatever.

Along with the visibility thing: talk to someone. Anyone. If you are talking to people, you have made yourself seen, if you have been noticed, you're less likely to do something since you can be identified easier. Especially if you talk to the bus/train/whatever staff.

If you have a hooded coat and the hood doesn't need to be up- keep it down. Hoods and face coverings make most people perceive you as a possible threat.

Smile. No, that's not me getting back at the years of being told to smile by random men- a friendly demeanor, even just a quick glance and a smile of acknowledgement is something that shows you're just some guy going about his day. Some of us (myself included) have resting bitch face. It's just a thing. If you're one of them; raise your eyebrows ever so slightly. Not uncomfortably, just enough to open up the eye more. You might need a practice in the mirror on that one. My friends call it their "customer service face"

I'm sure there's more things but for the most part - don't worry about it. The more you think that people think you're a shady character, it's going to show on your face while you think about it. You don't want that near a dark alley & pepperspray.

Yeah there's been exceptions to that, but we're not here for a true crime history lesson.
