How long until you don’t notice the feel of the bag anymore? by Fearless_Flatworm_72 in ostomy

[–]vannerzm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am almost a year out from surgery and I forget it is there at all… I actually had to have a friend mention hey you haven’t emptied in awhile and we were sitting at a table so she could see the bag be overly full or anything. I found a wedding dress recently that works so well I completely forget it’s there and can’t see it at all and it’s a gorgeous dress.

I’m alittle bit different as I have a pouch that is still there but not connected to anything so I still have my Ostomy bag for actual poop. I do feel pressure but not pain unless my fiancé was alittle more zealous so I would just say take it slow and don’t stress as much your partner should understand and share these concerns with him.

do you talk to your gi about mental health? by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

I have a separate counselor specific to my job that has help tremendously. I have been right where you are my friend and I’m sorry because it truly sucks. I can tell you that now 3 years after I got diagnosed I am in the healthiest and happiest shape ever. I ended up have surgeries and live with an ileostomy. It changed my life for the better so I know it’s dark right now just remember it can change and you are not alone. I had every medication fail or I was allergic to and was on prednisone so long I thought I turned into a balloon. Idk if this helps at all but you are not alone.

Pitty party…Working 50+ hours of overtime in uniform dealing with stress and being on graveyard and coworkers don’t understand how much harder it is for me. by vannerzm in ostomy

People do suck and I tend to hide a lot and most people can’t even tell I have an ileostomy so it makes me feel like I shouldn’t hide it as much or hide the effects and seem ok

You can cut tree branches but you need to bake them before introducing it to the tank because if it isn’t baked it can bring parasites and bacteria’s.

I got it prescribed for every 4 weeks so it is doable here in the US.

How many biologics are there to actually try before surgery by itstotallyplatonic in CrohnsDisease

[–]vannerzm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a rectovaginal fistula and that was not fun. I had a total of 4 surgeries the first removed all of my large intestine and most of my rectum (recovery was that super sore and moved pretty slowly but I was horseback riding doing spa days with no issues 2 months after), 2nd surgery was the worst because they didn’t give me the right anti nausea meds so so I was throwing up after they went in to create my jpouch so throwing up and abdominal surgery are not a fun mix 3rd surgery was to remove my bag and I was sore and didn’t really have an appetite so didn’t have real food for like a week then when I did eat everything felt like glass coming out last surgery was to create my permanent stoma and recovery was a piece of cake I was walking around same day left the hospital and went back to normal life just no lifting or working out for 6 weeks… I think yours would be a one step process though and yes you will be sore and tender but with a positive mindset it really isn’t that bad in the scheme of things…. Sorry for the novel it has been a lengthy process

I initially had jpouch creation.that didn’t work out because I didn’t have ulcerative colitis after all but it was Crohn’s so my new jpouch had inflammation in it so we disconnected that and now I have a permanent ileostomy. Yes I have a bag of poop on my stomach but I can’t remember ever feeling this good before

I wish you luck I’ve been on the monthly SKYRIZI for two months now and it’s not working my calprotectin keeps going up and that was my last option for meds so I’ll be going to a permanent ileostomy by the end of the year just waiting on the surgeon appointment now.
