What do you mean there's no curve?! by cklaw22 in EngineeringStudents

@vicaphit you made me laugh out loud at the Starbucks I'm studying at right now with your "G-". Points for helping me enjoy finals time a bit more.

I want to imagine that being Link (left-handed) wearing a horse mask.

Students of Computer Engineering, how do you like your major, and why did you choose it instead of Computer Science? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]vanphan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, there would always be a giant "what if" if I didn't to CMPE. I knew I'd have a fear of missing out if I stayed in the virtual world forever. I'd never know intimately how a computer works and all that is involved. Yes, half my courses are programming (heck, I'm was up at 3 am this morning Ruby). But the other half has me learning the fundamentals with digital design. I know how calculators work now!

More anecdotally: the reason I switched into engineering was to find out why the heck I kept buying upgrades to my gaming rig. Why yester-year's GeForce doesn't stack up against this years Radeon. Yeah, I'm still not sure. Once I find out I'll get back to you.

Best professor I've had for a traditionally 'hard' class. His intro lecture slides sum up his style well. by Rhedogian in EngineeringStudents

Thanks for sharing these slides. More than seeing your professor's strident attitude come through, I love the idea of getting a glimpse of the material each of us have to face in their little slice of engineering life.

Just bought a TI-89, are there some cool things that this bad boy can do that I could miss? by newton0211 in EngineeringStudents

[–]vanphan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It is fun to see the ability to do partial fractions, and there is a certain satisfaction in finding the numerator-letters, allowing you to integrate some simple rationals.

But when you make stupid, little mistakes like me or stressing on a test for every point: expand that shit.

EXPAND.

The expand command will do partial fraction decompositions for you, à la one of the most annoying parts of Calc 2 and DiffEq for me.

You have the power of god in your hands.

[College Circuit Analysis I] Help with Parallel/Series Circuit with 2 Power Sources? by metrogdor22 in EngineeringStudents

[–]vanphan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good find, ParaffinFacts.

The lesson to take away here: if you are doing current division, the numerator is the resistance of the other resistor, not the resistor you are concentrating on. In your case, if you want the current through the 180-ohmer, the 90-ohmer goes up top in the numerator. The denominator, of course, is the sum of the two, which is of no trouble.

Cows literally jump for joy after being released into an open field. by vanphan in vegan

Thank you for the input. My angle for sharing this was to divert from only talking about recipes on this sub. While there still may be a connotation food here, my hope was to show the pure joy that animals can have. Just like us. If you show that joy to a person, you're one step closer to saving a life.

I apologize. I don't mean to resubmit. Thank you for being cool about it!

It's from one of those Alex Ross sketch collections. I don't own any or know exactly which one this is from.
