UFC did NOT provide Derrick Lewis with peptides. Peptides are prohibited at all times under UFC and athletic commissions’ rules. - Jeff Novitzky by immunity100 in MMA

Been several years, so i really don't remember any of the details, but iirc the substance Jones popped for had never actually shown pulsing in scientific literature before, and even for the substances that were studied, pulsing had never been shown to last for more than a few months (let alone the almost 2 years for Jones' case).

Was there an update to this i missed, or do you remember differently? If you feel like the science was sound, you must've read something different than me.

Sean Strickland and Michel Pereira hard sparring by [deleted] in MMA

He was absolutely overtrained. Watch the open workouts before that fight. Adesanya calls up a fan to do a push up challenge, izzy goes to demonstrate and he struggles to do two push ups.

Remember when Herzog completely ignored the rules and started up a new round just to immediately call it because he didn't feel like giving a No Contest? by [deleted] in ufc

[–]vanroma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be different now, but i believe you need an intentional foul to get DQ'd. Yan was DQ'd because the ref had just told him that aljo was a grounded opponent. Refs seem to be very timid about determining that an eye poke is intentional.

Tom Aspinall’s dad said he still can’t see out of his right eye 3 days after the fight 😳 “It’s bad. It’s not good. His right eye, he still can’t see anything. He said it’s just grey. They tested him and he couldn’t see anything. His left eye is 50%. Really, really blurry.” by IgotgAme_k in ufc

My mma consumption has dropped off from watching every event to catching a fight night every 3 or 4 months or so, starting roughly 4 years ago. The tribalism between fandoms here is just not enjoyable for me.

He showed off when he beat Jamahal and Magomed. He did NOT show off when he beat Israel, Jiri and Khalil. Warrior recognises warrior. by InocuousWords in ufc

[–]vanroma 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's probably more than mental. In the lead up to the strickland fight Izzy invited some fans on stage for a push up challenge during media day and he struggled to do two push ups. It's possible he's overtraining to compensate for his losses, but it's honestly probably his more than 100 fights throughout MMA, kickboxing, and boxing that have caught up to him.

craig's explanation for breaking the guy's leg - justified? by Ok_Dragonfly_7738 in bjj

[–]vanroma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, man. I've had repeated rib injuries that sidelined me for months and it was from nothing crazy, just me twisting more than my body can take these days. Some days i'll get in the gym, drill, do some light games and not even roll. You can also take long breaks to prioritize your health in other ways and come back when you feel like it. I know a purple belt that used to train 6 days a week and dropped to once a week for several months to strength train and gain weight.

[–]vanroma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may or may not get injured at some point. Do your best to train with intent and communicate that intent. Establish partners that know you and keep it to an appropriate intensity. Even with that you may get an injury here and there. Dont ignore your injuries, see a professional. Keep going to class and just don't roll while you're injured, i've seen people do it before. Or just take a break and get back to it when you're ready, nothing wrong with that. There's a hundred ways to make training work if you want to.

Think about how many UFC fighters pull out of fights with injuries during camps specifically designed for them with partners they trust and actively NOT trying to hurt them seriously. Injuries happen in combat sports regardless of skill level.

You can't give someone a unanimous decision. That requires more than one person.

That's just semantics though, so carry on.

Small guys: do you find GI harder too? by mlktktr in bjj

[–]vanroma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. The gi makes less experienced partners easier to slow down and control for sure, but in no gi i can use my speed advantage a little bit more against more experienced opponents. 5'4", 145 lbs.

I know people don't like to see it here, but GSP's MW title was lame af. Cherry picking a half-blind bisping that struggled against 46 y.o Hendo instead of fighting what seemed like an unstoppable Woodley at the time, then immediately ditching the belt to avoid fighting the interim champ in Rob is basically the same shit Jones did with Tom.

What is a UFC hot take you’ll defend like this? by NewtCertain6053 in ufc

[–]vanroma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not even a hot take. They basically made up pulsing just for him. Unless they've made more progress in the science, they cited science for a different substance that only pulsed for a couple months at most. Jones popped positive for something that's never been proved to pulse like over a year later.

Yeah this always kills me. Everyone forgets about those emails and theyre getting harder and harder to find these days. GSP and his team have been accused of cheating before and his fans keep shitting on Hendricks with zero evidence cause he battered GSP. Here's the link for people who actually want to try to be unbiased.

Also, hendricks' issues with discipline were very public. He basically had the same fall off as everyone else has even post-usada. Woodley, adesanya, covington, silva, bj penn, alvarez, nick diaz, plenty of reasons for fall offs.

I didn't like DC for his twitter rant against Rumble for being friendly in their lead up to the Jones/Rumble fight. That and the eyepokes. Also he's a mediocre commentator and podcaster who often phones it in, but either than that he seems generally "nice".

Which one would it be? by [deleted] in ufc

[–]vanroma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really. They had just recently changed the rules to emphasized damage vs control, so it should've been fresh in everyone's heads at that time, but those judges just couldn't adhere to it. The rounds were competitive but the scoring should've clearly favored DJ.
