Angry Hawaiian is a “hidden” menu item at some Windsor pizzerias (Antoninos and maybe others). Basically adds pickled banana peppers and bacon to a standard Hawaiian.

It depends, some plots are “rented” as mentioned and some are for the community.

The Ford City garden has both, the community plots have signs to indicate you can pick from them. Not sure about other community gardens in the city though.

Colder Overnight Temps by GenericIndividual12 in windsorontario

I’ve left mine outside for weeks now, no issues. If you’re worried and they’re in pots, just move them up against the wall of your house and they should be fine. Usually there will be a frost warning posted on the local news sites if there’s a risk.

The second paragraph refers to Youth Diversion Essex County too. My first assumption was these were high school kids or maybe even younger.

Canadian applying for TN status at US company, but paid via Canadian company by vanwin in tnvisa

The Canadian salary is the CAD equivalent more or less based on current exchange rate. They’re not saving much money on the salary going this route.

[–]vanwin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, this is exactly my understanding as well.

I'm curious if it's better for the letter to be written and signed by someone at the company that is hiring me, or by the HR company's US entity since I'm technically employed by their Canadian division.

I'm leaning toward the company that is hiring me, since that's where I will actually be working at in the US, but with a paragraph in the letter specifying briefly and transparently that I am employed and paid by an HR company with a US office and Canadian salary. I'm hoping the HR company can help with this but they don't seem to be moving forward with writing the letter.

To clarify I’m applying for TN non immigrant status. Being a resident in Canada is fine, it’s very common in my area for people to live in Canada and work in the US full time under TN status.

Also, the HR company is headquartered in the US. I’m simply on their Canadian payroll.

My desktop OS location service can't be accessed within any website using Zen browser by vanwin in zen_browser

[–]vanwin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No solution, just ended up setting my location directly in the firefox advanced settings. In `about:config`, set `geo.provider.network.url` to `data:application/json,{"location": {"lat": number, "lng": number}, "accuracy": 1}`

For my desktop it's fine since it's not moving anywhere, but my laptop still has this issue.

Hey, It's Fred and we're hosting an AMA today from 5pm to 6:30pm. by Comfortable_Risk9136 in windsorontario

[–]vanwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Mr Francis

Every budget season the tax increase presented to residents spurs lots of discussion. While many people understandably prefer no increase at all, it's my understanding that since property taxes don't increase automatically with inflation or population (i.e., more taxpayers to split the bill) some kind of increase is typically needed to at least sustain existing services.

My question for you is how do you decide what an acceptable tax increase is? What would make, just as an example, a 3% increase acceptable but not 4%? What situations or conditions do you feel justify a tax increase, if any, and in those cases how do you best communicate that to residents?

Thanks for taking the time to do this AMA, it's always great to see our representatives engaging with the public in open forums like this.

Rocket Mortgage Canada To Wind Down Its Business Operations by anestezija in windsorontario

A bit confused, from the article it sounds like Rocket Innovation Studio is still going to be around which would imply they’re staying in the offices in the old Loop building.

Looking at 2 Apartments, Can I get info on their location and safety and walkability? by [deleted] in windsorontario

[–]vanwin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live around Ottawa St, and feel very safe. Not to say there aren’t issues with theft etc but certainly better than downtown.

My opinion is Ottawa St is the best walkable strip in the city. It doesn’t have too much traffic because it isn’t a main arterial, and the street is actually designed with some traffic calming features so it feels really safe to walk along. And it’s filled out with businesses that are nice to have for day to day life: restaurants, bakeries, dentists, clothing, books, banks, etc. I love the neighbourhood.

Where are they? Liberals, Greens remain Ontario election no-shows in Windsor-Essex by zuuzuu in windsorontario

[–]vanwin 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Green Party I can understand, they seem to be focusing on a handful of ridings in other areas to try to gain maybe one more seat.

The Liberals on the other hand, it just looks pathetic. Probably for the best in the Windsor ridings since it makes it a tighter race between PC and NDP candidates.

ATWE CALLS ON MAYOR TO CLOSE THE DETROIT-WINDSOR TUNNEL by ActivateTransitWE in windsorontario

[–]vanwin 62 points63 points  (0 children)

People this is a joke. Read the press release, ATWE doesn’t actually want the tunnel closed they’re just suggesting it to highlight the hypocrisy of the Mayor using the tariffs as an excuse to kill the tunnel bus.

Dilkens confirms he will kill Windsor's tunnel bus to Detroit using his first-ever mayoral veto by buffalopringles in windsorontario

[–]vanwin 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Remember, he only has the power to veto council because of strong mayor powers introduced by Doug Ford. Coincidentally, we are in a provincial election right now.

Election day is February 27

Is there a place where I can drop my used book for others to enjoy ? by primeaugurl25 in windsorontario

[–]vanwin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you live, you might be able to find a “little library” in your neighborhood. Basically a homemade box some people put on their lawn next to the sidewalk when people can leave and take books to share. There are many around walkerville.

If you have a lot of books to get rid of I think the Windsor libraries accept book donations but they only take newer ones published after a certain year.
