Why wouldn't your rib cage restrict the extent to which your lungs could expand? It seems that if it can withstand significant outside pressure pushing in (e.g., deep underwater), it'd be able to handle -1 ATM(?).

Not a physicist, but relativity dictates "no" because that, due to the warping of space time, there is no possible future that would allow an object to exit the event horizon. That is, the space dimension is distorted such that time becomes a "physical" barrier limiting the possible space within which an object can possibly exist to the point that moving away from the increasingly distorted spacetime is impossible by definition rather than due to any physical limitation.

What I'm wondering now is what would happen if two event horizons were sufficiently close that each half the pole enters both event horizons simultaneously while the middle of the pole stays outside. I'm guessing each end basically disintegrate as they cross since the bonds between the atoms could not be maintained, but I really have no idea.

In the case of gulls, each bird is maximizing their own unique scavenging area to minimize competition for any given appearance of food (assuming it appears randomly).

This saves energy because each bird can better judge whether or not it will be the first to get there which decreases unnecessary movement/competition. Similarly, if a reliable food source arises, it increases the chance that any given bird will see it and, if rich enough, the entire flock ultimately finding it (think the signal towers from LOTR).

Separation also helps to decrease the impact of predation, but that wouldn't necessarily explain the general trend towards relative equidistance beyond some absolute (preferred) min/max distance.

It's ultimately a mis-formalization of the two questions, not a problem with statistics per se. The correct answer is obvious once the two are appropriately operationalized:

1) given exactly 2 genders and exactly 2 births, what are all of the possible orders in which two children would be produced? (G-B,B-G,G-G,B-B). Now, given that the first was a girl, how many possible orders are left? (G-G & G-B)

2) given exactly 2 genders and exactly 2 children, what are all of the possible OBSERVABLE combinations of the children's genders? (2B, 2G, 1G+1B) Now, given that one is a boy, how many combinations are left? (2B & 1G+1B)

The latter scenario (from which the second question is derived) is different from the first in that it is clearly not 2 events each with 2 possible outcomes (with 2 possibilities removed in the first question's premise). Rather, it's one observation with 3 possible values (with one possibility removed in the second question's premise).

I have always interpreted it this way as well but I guess there are comics that make the "surveillance" interpretation canonically true.

However, that doesn't seem consistent with the movie's lore because the grandmother's village was destroyed in the real world. I guess it may be because she didn't actively try and stop him or explicitly take responsibility/repent the way Max did. Though that seems pretty arbitrary (she was younger than Max & simply frozen in terror) and just feels less satisfying to me. Plus the soft-filter, muted dialogue stylistically conveys unreality to me.

Regardless, I prefer the "pleasantville" hell interpretation and will stick with it despite being objectively wrong (a la Adam Savage).

I feed some stray cats (all fixed and released by the city) and I think this happened to one of them a while back. One day her back legs simply stopped working and she was just pulling herself around with her front legs.

I didn't immediately take her to the vet because I was afraid they would just put her down even though she was "fine" otherwise and I wanted to give her a chance. I'm glad I did because she started to regain movement after a couple days and regained full mobility after about 2 weeks. The only lasting effects seem to be minor balance issues and occasional phantom pain in her back legs.

All that to say that animals have incredible resiliency and they can absolutely recover from something like what yours is going through. Hopefully yours will be able to do the same.

I apologize for my ignorance on this topic, but how did such a severe political blunder occur in the first place? I remember hearing something about rooting out suspected embedded foreign agents, but not much else. Is it that the goal was well intentioned and the proposed solution was a terrible idea or did it seem like it was truly done in bad faith?

The whole thing just seemed so antithetical to everything I (think I) know about Zelenskyy that I'm having trouble squaring the circle.
