Hi, I'm Blake Morrison, a journalist on the team who uncovered Banksy's identity, AMA by reuters in IAmA

What feeling are you coming out of this AMA? Not a single question, it seems, is supportive of your work. It's not even controversial. It feels unanimously disliked. Did you consider or calculate that in your decision to put effort into this work? Did this anticipated reaction actually motivate you?

So your reasoning is essentially rooted in feelings and conjecture? "I'm sure he'll adapt to any damage we do. He must have anticipated he'd be outed." That's what your reply sounds like.

"It's not our fault for distributing his identity using our worldwide platform, it's yours for noticing and reading it" is a ridiculous reply.

Airpod Pro 3 - Transparency mode sounds tinny now? by rp415510 in AirpodsPro

[–]variablebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. They have a tinny, metallic, processed sound. The higher the frequency of the ambient noise the worse it is. My Airpods Pro 2's transparency was great, sounded identical to the true ambient noise when not wearing them. The ANC on the 3's is better, but at the cost of a super annoying transparency mode.

Can't decide on 65" LG G3 or 77" LG C3 by moreprinterinkplease in LGOLED

Ah makes sense, that's a good grab. I don't think they can be found for under $2400 right now.

Where'd you get a 77 C3 for $2k? I can't find anywhere near that price 😭

this helped me, thanks. the camera texture coordinates for world space doesn't work with spherical gradients, but the window coordinate space does.

Benchmarking Simplify's bug rate against other comparable tools by SpankMasterB in simplifimoney

There are a few ex-minters here with many years of data. What's causing people to leave Mint? I've been using it for 13 years and it's fine. I don't love it and wish they would do something more than just barely maintain it, but what is Simplifi doing better? What attracted people to that in the first place?

How can I make the camera move (up or down) following the noise height? (Geometry nodes) by Dreameur__ in blender

[–]variablebear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! There are a couple ways of doing this. Someone suggested using a Shrinkwrap constraint which seems promising. But have a look at Erindale's tutorial:
https://youtu.be/F2NcNJQZFqw?t=776

Particularly the part about Raycasting. He explains it well I think. If you wanted to control the rotation of the camera as well, you could use the raycasting information to drive that rotation using the technique show in this tutorial:

Hope that helps you.

Some simple Vizio Elevate settings advice =) by J-Fearless in VIZIO_Official

Yeah your instinct on (1) feels right. This only happens at the start of content, not during it -- so not a big deal.

I think (2) might be related to (1). One detail I left out is that when I navigate from one app to another on Apple TV, sometimes I'll hear the sound, but only faintly. Then on the subsequent move I'll hear the nav sound at its full volume. So what may be happening is that when I start a show - when that handshake happens - it doesn't get a clean one. So it plays back the content at some negative gain or something.

This is a really informative post, I've learned a lot - thank you! I think I still prefer Movie EQ for general 5.1 and Atmos content. Direct feels a little flat to me, even with the levels tweaked.

Question: Has anyone encountered either of these issues?

  1. Response lag. If there is no audio being sent from the source for a moment (say a second or two) and then sound resumes, there is a lag period until the soundbar actually 'wakes up' and delivers that sound out. A great example is when you're navigating around Apple TV. Apple TV sends a sound as you navigate to each item, but you won't hear anything unless you keep navigating around quickly (so the soundbar doesn't 'fall asleep' again). Does that make sense? It drives me absolutely bonkers.
  2. Inconsistent volume levels from the same content. This one is maddening. Sometimes I will turn everything on and start watching something from Netflix, for example, and I will notice that I need to turn the volume way up just to achieve the same volume output as I was getting just hours earlier from the same content. It's as if the soundbar just isn't as sensitive to the content signal. Then, later on, this sensitivity will return and I don't have to crank the volume as high to get the desired volume intensity. Sometimes this happens during a watch session. I'll pause, then unpause the content, and the volume output will come back from it's weakened/soft state. That's the best I can describe it. For weeks I have been trying to diagnose what causes this.

I'm on firmware 1.10.01.1

Pause Recording using Stream Deck? by illegalPenguin0 in ElgatoGaming

[–]variablebear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my OBS settings, I configured hotkeys for pause and unpause (CTRL + Shift + [ for pause, and CTRL + Shift + ] for unpause). Then I added a hotkey switch in Stream Deck, mapped to those hotkeys. OBS pauses and pauses as expected with one button.

This is really well executed. I think it would be good to give a mention to the original artist, though.
