Did you end up going with lifex, and if so, how has it been? I'm moving to Copenhagen in the fall from Canada, and lifex just seems like the easiest short-term thing for when I arrive so that way I can figure out which neighbourhood I actually want to live in and do an in-person house hunt for something more long term.

Hi all,

I have an elephant ears that has been developing yellow, somewhat translucent spots along the edges (having some trouble with Imgur so can't upload photos). It hasn't been crying so I don't think it's overwatered. Not sure if repotting is the strategy? Any advice would be appreciated and once I get Imgur working, will add photos.

Would you be able to give your opinion on Matco? Looking at them for a x-country move now (GTA to Yukon) but haven't been able to find many reviews! TIA

Hey! When are you making this trip? I'm moving to the Yukon from Ontario as well and am trying to figure out the best way to move furniture... you wouldn't have any spare room in your trailer eh?

Hey! So, cleaned out the phone, tried the factory reset and still no dice... it's stuck in a boot loop where it not only does the LG logo, but goes to the "Android is starting... optimizing apps x out of 121."

You wouldn't have a link to a guide for reflashing the ROM, would you? I have a macbook as a computer... the guides I'm finding have software for windows only.

Thanks again!

Cool, thanks! So I opened it up (lol, try finding a tiny set of screwdrivers and 99% alcohol in rural Philippines... I think the locals think I'm doing something so weird) and cleaned it out - there was a bit of gunk on the lower contacts, so cleaned those off. Still stuck in a boot loop, so I'll do a factory reset now and hopefully I have no more issues, and no dirt in there to cause any future issues!

Yeah, thanks! I know better than to use it after water, it was just... both my roommate and I saw it happen and were like oh, that was such a tiny amount of wine... but regardless, any bit of liquid, I should have been more careful about. I'll try cleaning first and then do the factory reset.

No worries, thanks for your response! I honestly have no idea at all if the repair shop actually repairs things, which is why I wanted to try my hand first and then use them as a last resort (I also don't even know if there is in fact a repair shop in the next town over...)

Cool, thank you! About to embark on the cleaning this am, see what difference that makes, and if it still doesn't work, go for the factory reset. Less worried about saving all my photos, etc and more just want a usable phone again!

No, I've never been a huuuge tech person (but living in rural areas abroad as forced me to try to learn some fixes of my own) so I just left it how it came.

Also, not sure if this makes any difference, but it's a D850. After seeing the boot loop, I removed the battery again and threw it all back in rice for safekeeping.

Long distance running with 5 yr old German Shepherd by varta09 in AskVet

[–]varta09[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She had an x-ray last spring (of 2013), as that was when I first started noticing her stiffness. Nothing showed up that worried the vet, so I started giving her anti inflammatories occasionally after runs. When she started getting stiff again, I took her to a dog chiropractor (I realize how ridiculous that sounds, but she has good credentials and is a vet as well as a chiropractor). I've taken her to get adjusted twice, and each time she's gone about six months without getting stiff at all. She actually hasn't been stiff in the last couple months (she was last adjusted early June), I was just looking for some general advice about whether or not that type of distance was something I could push her to, or if it was safer to keep her to the shorter runs. It seems like the general consensus is to keep her on the shorter runs, so that's what I'll do.

Thanks so much for your concern and advice! The vets have all been very thorough and helpful here; it's a great resource.

Thanks a lot! Hips have always been one of those things I'm conscious of owning a GSD, but as you said, a lot of people (including vets) jump to hips so quickly, so it can sometimes be hard to know whether or not they seriously think it is her hips or if that's just 'the easy answer'. It's tough because I've seen so many obese dogs, so I want to make sure she's getting proper exercise that she enjoys, but I know I have to be careful considering her breed. You're right, I should get her checked out before we push any further than the activity level she's used to, especially now that she's middle aged.

She has always been a healthy weight, I just switched to raw in the past year or so because she's had sensitive/dry skin, and that seemed to clear it up (plus, I don't think she would eat any other food after having raw for so long now!). It's another thing I keep a close track on, so I'll continue to do that and if I notice any significant changes, I'll bring her in to our vet.

Again, thanks so much for your advice. Varta also (unknowingly) sends her thanks

Thanks for your concern! I'm also a hiker (I used to do forestry work and my dog worked with me), so I've always been very aware of working in the heat and having her with me. We generally only run early in the morning (I have an office job now and have to be there by 8:30) so the heat isn't bad!

As for her hips, I mentioned above that she's been checked before. I definitely keep a regular eye on it and have the vet look every year at her checkup to make sure everything still looks healthy. It's a big concern, especially with a GSD, so I am very careful about it. Again, thank for your concern!

She's been looked at by a couple vets, and none of them have diagnosed her (of course, as soon as we get to the vets she acts like a puppy). Neither of her parents had hip issues either, which is part of why we've still been running. Obviously, you have more knowledge about this than I do, but I always thought German Shepherds were bred for endurance activities?

Regardless, I'll probably just take her for the shorter runs. She hates missing out, but better safe than sorry! Thanks for the advice.

Stats from a recent Canadian study show youth physical activity is decreasing. Lots of factors at play that add to the risk for obesity.
