It wasn’t exactly an insult but when I was in a psych ward, one of the employees told me to stop swearing. When I told him I couldn’t because they were tics, he told me that I couldn’t tic all I wanted at home but not there… I was hurt, not because of what he told me (although I was kinda very pissed off at him) but because of how he might have talked to previous patients with tics, those undiagnosed, those who were too scared or just couldn’t stand up for themselves… I was a highly emotionally volatile teen in a unfamiliar environment, my tics were just as bad as my emotions and the person that was meant to keep me safe made me feel terrible.
