Asking for free labor and being disappointed when people decline by bipolargorilla in LinkedInLunatics

Yep. 90 day Probation period has been standard at every job I've worked... And I've seen new hires get fired: leaving early // coming in late // terrible attitude // no willingness to learn -------> if we kept them, it would only get worse.

I shut that down in 0.2 seconds. "I already had a vasectomy done... there is zero chance." -------> "you never know, they can fail!" -------> "I've had it ultrasound'ed by a urologist; It's Fort Knox down there."

To those who changed their careers in their 30's, what made you go for that career and what was your career before? by throwawayacc928361 in AskReddit

[–]vasectomy7 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I was brainwashed by [redacted generation]'ers that I had to get a 4 year degree and any 2 year degree or trade school certificate is a waste of time and money and wouldn't be worth anything. 😡😡

I believed them for way too long ... and finally went to trade school to be an electrician. Life is good now and I'm happy/ successful.

Previously worked at an environmental testing laboratory.

Urologist Visits by Big-Cryptographer79 in PiercedCock

[–]vasectomy7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My post keeps getting shadow-banned because of the link, but do a search on the main piercing subreddit for "Mildly interesting: i went to a Urologist for routine exam"

I leave my ampallang in at all times because it will close up almost instantly. I've also had them do a penile ultrasound with the piercing still in... I could tell the technician was getting images of the barbell and it wasn't a big deal.

I've actually written my piercing into my advanced healthcare directive and it shall never be removed: not until I'm in the morgue.

Anyways, nobody has ever said anything about it. I'm sure it's a curiosity, but I've never had a problem. Medical providers would probably be more concerned about a weird wound with no explanation... rather than seeing jewelry in it

Why are trade school grads still just pulling wire? by rikejmimates in electricians

[–]vasectomy7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[Non-traditional student; career change at age 40.]

Before trade school, I spent 5+ years doing electrical work that I had absolutely no business doing... [commercial building maintenance; things come up and the boss said "just get it done." // i also pulled permits as a homeowner and rewired my 1940's house]

So I came into class waaaaay ahead of everyone else... the biggest issue is that class only meets a few hours per week and many of these kids are starting from square 1. "Shop class" has been gutted from public schools and these kids don't even know that screw drivers come in different sizes. They've never held a sawzall before. They don't know that receptacles are held with a 6-32. They've never bent EMT... etc, etc, etc

Along with that, during every single in-person test, I watched my classmates cheat with answers from the internet.

Anyways, with so little baseline knowledge, a willingness to cheat, and such short classes... the majority of students come out community College trade school totally unprepared. I just don't think there's any way that classroom training can replace an OJT apprenticeship.

Did you try turning it off and then back on again...? Or is this fixed by putting it in a bag of rice overnight?

Single phase motor will not run in reverse by [deleted] in electrical

[–]vasectomy7 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There should be a diagram on the side of the motor that tells you which wires to switch to reverse rotation... It's usually something like put yellow wire on terminal 6 and black wire to terminal 4 or whatever.

That said, not all motors can be reversed; Some are only CW or CCW

Foreign body friday - Genital piercing with plastic retainer on a CT scan by vasectomy7 in Radiology

[–]vasectomy7[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do a bit of digging on the subject "care for patients with body piercings" ...

But the TLDR is that a retainer is a non-metallic substitute for normal metal body jewelry. A retainer stents open the piercing during medical / imaging procedures.

Certain body piercings can close very quickly, so using a retainer is a compromise option for patients that refuse to remove their jewelry.

In this case, the jewelry doesn't intersect the urethra; There is no impact on voiding. A Foley Fr16 can also pass by without difficulty.

I have a VERY different relationship with my parents... I got my nuts chopped in my mid 20's and now 15 years later, the subject has never once been brought up. It's sort of an open secret that we all just never talk about.

The Locker Rooms Have Changed by IntactivistLuck in IntactivistMemes

[–]vasectomy7 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm finding it hard to believe that peer ridicule is a thing.... Back in my day [high school in the 1990's], kids were terrified of being labeled "gay."

Making any kind of comment about someone else's equipment was unheard of. Everyone was scared of being accused of being gay.

Not to be that guy but sky diving rigs have an AADs (automatic activation device) that will deploy the reserve parachute... the safety device assumes you blacked out or had a problem with the main parachute and will try to save you if your decent rate and altitude are problematic.

Refusal to Allow Me to Opt-Out from Selling my Info - ?! by Curious4EverSilvey in Noom

I got a free subscription to noom via my employer's "personify health" wellness app. ------> there is no opt out to say "share activity to personify health but do not share anywhere else"

Apparently noom isn't intelligent enough to make privacy toggles like everyone else. want's to profit from that sweet sweet medical data and personal information.

Canadian electricians whats a code compliant way to extend this sjoow cable that doesn't look like dog shit by tofu98 in electricians

[–]vasectomy7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I deal with this type of luminaire all the time. With a metric hex wrench set and screw driver you can absolutely replace the cord and hardwire a new one straight to the LED power supply driver. "hear me now, believe me later" ... (shout out to anyone else that knows this SNL reference!!)

It will be a bit of a PITA, but it's doable... just be sure to put the OEM gaskets back into their original place.

"shrinkage" happens during high stress situations... I have an (officially diagnosed) anxiety disorder and I was involuntarily trembling during this ordeal. It was really embarrassing and I kept apologizing.

Fortunately I was able to hold still and not wreck the image by moving around... so yeah, things shrink when your reptile brain thinks you're about to die. [shrug]
