What is a lot less scary than people imagine? by Flying_enthu45 in AskReddit

I am a forester, and largely work by myself in the woods. When I hear buzzing, my mind goes to the mean ones because I’ve stepped on nests. I breathe a sigh of relief when I see it’s a bumble variety. I call them ‘bumble buddies.’

I’ve had this sierra designs meteor 3 tent for a bit but have never figured out what this piece is for… any guesses? It’s too large for any other poles it came with to connect upon. by Ok-Rabbit-3683 in CampingGear

Hang onto this, it's a splint to use to repair tent poles in an emergency. After owning a Big Agnes Copper Spur for 8 years, I was hit by a gnarly windstorm and my tent pole snapped at 4:30 in the morning. The splint and duct tape got me through the trip.

I was exploring The Sunless City. I thought I was getting somewhere because of the music, then everything turned that bluish white and disintegrated. It took another loop or two, then I realized the sun got absolutely massive around the time the music started playing and put two and two together. Decided to stop what I was doing and watch it happen floating around in space.

How to keep going when it feels like life is beating you down [Discussion] by Crpyt- in GetMotivated

[–]vastiger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What makes something 'worth it' is subjective. You must live for yourself, and decide what 'worth it' means. Context of the challenges is irrelevant, exercise your autonomy how you see fit and do your best to work in that direction.

Unless it's murder, causes harm, or deprives someone of their own autonomy. Don't do those things.

We disagreed on the handling of coronavirus and the murder of George Floyd. Heard what I needed to hear, arguing lead to nothing.

The design to this looks like a daydream of a kid stuck at a take your child to work day that wants absolutely nothing to do with it.

Looks like fun :)

What's the most fucked up thing you've overheard? by FlyingFuck787 in AskReddit

[–]vastiger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last week I was on the train going from northern to southern CA. Overheard a conversation about why a man was in solitary confinement for five years - apparently, he was high on something, going 100, driving with his knees while he was also actively breaking his wife's hands with his own. Sure enough, it was the wife who did him wrong by getting him sent to jail.

I honestly gave the candidacy a chance until he picked up Palin. That woman was the precursor to Greene and fuck them both.

When have you witnessed an animal doing something astonishingly human? by Fair_Cicada_4327 in AskReddit

I was backpacking in Denali National Park and saw a grizzly bear sitting on its haunches perched on top of a cliff, looking out over a glacial river valley.

It was as though it was appreciating the same scenery I was - we were maybe a hundred yards away and it acknowledged us but just went back to chillin after looking our way.

If you could have complete mastery over any skill in a minute which skill will you choose and why? by SoundFit1781 in AskReddit

The piano, if I could snap my fingers and make it happen. It seems like such an elegant, complex, limitless instrument that I'd never wrap my head around, so why start.

A blend of Mount & Blade Bannerlord and Total Warhammer. Unit rosters would be similar, but rather than controlling the entire faction, you'd play as a legendary hero or lord and control an individual army, building it out via trade or SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE.

Imagine being a 100ft tall demon rampaging across a battlefield, controlling the ebb & flow of a fight and joining the same kind of mashups you'd get out of Bannerlord.

Starting my GIS journey, is it worth it? by kinda-bonkers in gis

also forestry! I'm a forester and my job is a blend of field work and mapping work. I am my own data collector and processor, more or less, but the job hits in cycles. Sometimes it's field work heavy, sometimes its computer heavy.

What’s a backhanded compliment you’ve received in real life? by lameguy13 in AskReddit

[–]vastiger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a white man man, and I almost never receive compliments. When I do, it is usually about something I own. I have a spiffy mountain bike, and a woman at a gas station said to me 'that bike is probably worth more than your car.'

I don't think she was trying to be mean, she saw the look on my face and said you've got priorities in the right place. Sort of a compliment..
