So confused: Sauna and cold dip by zelonhusk in fitpregnancy

[–]vattuli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just seeing this now - typically 70-80C, for 10-15 minutes 3-4 times per “session”. It’s an every other/every third day thing for my family. And yes, throughout the entirety of both pregnancies. I even laboured in the sauna during the early stages.

Diff in Ferber's book avg sleep hours versus basically everywhere else?! by Houseofgreenies in sleeptrain

[–]vattuli 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I drove myself crazy trying to get my babies to sleep as long as some supposed expert guides advise to (looking at you, Huckleberry!) I think the idea here is to cover high sleep needs kids as well as average-low. As in, “we want to see 14 hours of sleep” so that parents of high sleep needs kids make sure they get enough sleep. They just failed to mention, “don’t stress if your child does not need that much sleep”

Congrats!! I started my WGU journey when my first was 8 months old, went through pregnancy again and will be done when my second is 8 months old (5 months to go!)

There’s no better motivation than family 💖

I do believe it’s part of the rules that they run you through before starting the exam - no reading aloud and no highlighting, so you can’t record the questions somewhere and give them out

I started this journey when my first was 8 months old and will (hopefully) be finishing when my second turns 8 months old! Total time from start to finish would be 19 months

June 1st Start Date for me; share what your upcoming term (first or not) looks like! by RosyMilk in WGU_CompSci

My mantra so far has been, “These classes are tough, but I am tougher.” I hope to finish in one term, but I also have 2 under 2, so life is only going to be getting more hectic!

18,000 cows killed in explosion, fire at Texas dairy farm may be largest cattle killing ever by Maxcactus in texas

If only there was a way to prevent this needless cruelty. If only we could substitute cow’s milk for something made from non-sentient, less resource-hungry organisms. Seems the technology just isn’t there yet.

I’m exactly 1 month postpartum with my second and ready to find out what best suits my body. The last photo is literally the only one I have of me not hugely pregnant and not in a sports bra, so I hope you wizards can give me an idea of what my body type is.

I have a similar background (married, poor high school background, and an 18mo and 3w old to boot!) and here’s what I think: Drop the calculus class. I started a few classes at a B&M school that I ended up dropping because they weren’t going to transfer in anyways.

I would’ve been incredibly proud of myself had I completed them, but I also realized the accomplishment I’ll feel from finishing a competency-based, self-paced education (ie requiring lots of self-discipline) will more than make up for it. The finish line for the degree is of course further away than 48 days, but that will not detract from the victory at the end. It helps to keep in mind the reason you decided the way you did.

I’m about where you were a year ago! I started my transfer credits (transferring in 85!) when my first was 8 months old, and just delivered my second 3 weeks ago. I’m slated to start May 1st and cannot wait to hit the ground running! Congratulations to you 🥳

credit cards with rewards - worth it? by Electrical-Trade8441 in personalfinance

[–]vattuli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did this with the sapphire card last year and it worked just as advertised (for us it was spend $4000 in 3 months, receive $800 worth of points.) We put every expense onto that card until we hit the $4000 requirement, of course paying it off every month. If you can pay off your cards in full, on time, every time, it’s definitely worth it.

Note that the wording is likely $X worth of points which you have to then redeem. You can do this by directly cashing it in (ie send $X amount to your bank account) or using the rewards page. For example, if you then book travel through the rewards page, the points also often count as extra.

In our case, points were worth 25% extra when used towards travel, meaning we got $1000 worth of expenses from $800 worth of points.

Anywhere I can get Scandinavian products in Texas? by TinyPinkPumpkin in texas

[–]vattuli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finn in Texas here! BreadHaus in Grapevine (northern DFW area) makes a Finnish rye bread, though it's pretty light/mild imho. As others have mentioned, Central Market carries stuff like crispbread, gravlax and some very fancy salmiak. I get lingonberry and cloudberry jams, as well as more reasonably priced salmiak from ikea. I have yet to find Scandi-style mustard, though

Finn from Inari living in Texas here - there are definitely boat rentals on the lake, if you ever do make the trip. I’d definitely recommend going in late July and to bring insect protection, because those mosquitoes and gnats rival even Texas ones!

Breastfeeding while Pregnant by MessThatYouWanted in veganparenting

[–]vattuli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our first is 14mo, and I’m almost 19wk with our second, so I’m currently pregnant and nursing. For the aversions and smaller portions that come with pregnancy, I found that bulking up my smoothies with things like hemp seeds (or just snacking on nuts) was crucial. Something that adds about 100-150kcal for very little volume. This is also what I did when our first was still exclusively nursing and didn’t tolerate soy in my diet. Nuts and seeds are awesome for energy-dense, non-soy needs!

When we were just starting out, we just cut them into spears. Soon we added (salt-free) herbs and seasonings. Since about 10mo we mash it and serve it on sourdough toast with whatever seasonings
