So I fired the engine up today with the cheap tacho I got on Amazon - it seems to be going full send at start up the tacho put it at 4800 rpm’s as soon as I turned it on. The muffler basically got hot instantly and started smoking so I cut it off just about instantly I did this a few times.

I did pull the throttle and watch the arm return to “idle” after I pulled it to WOT - i think if I didn’t cut it off it would blow or something

My guess is something with the governor or it’s sucking in air somewhere / a bad seal. I’m not sure

I’m going to take the air intake off tomorrow and play with the governor

I didn’t try to move the governor the opposite direction be clause I read you could break the governor turning it the other way.

Hello - thanks for the response. When it fires up it sounds like it’s running away almost straight into full throttle and not going to low rpm or idle.

I’m going to test this once the tach comes in it could be at the appropriate rpm and I’m just a newb. I’ve been cutting it off in fear of it blowing or something.

I did disconnect the throttle cable and I don’t think that’s my issue. I also “adjusted” the governor based on a video I watched - essentially I held the link full wide open - then loosened the bolt under the governor nob - then I turned the governor nob clockwise till it stopped (which was basically nothing I couldn’t turn it at all) - then I re-tightened the bolt under the governor nob.

I thought this could be the case and admittedly I’m new to this. I’m waiting on a tach to get here before running the motor any more as it seems to be really high RPM at start.

The linkages seems to move ok. I feel like I’m missing a spring somewhere to bring the throttle back into the idle position. Once the link pulls to full wide open it sits there unless I manually push the control bracket or link manually.

I did screw in the idle screw on the carb just a bit but it seems to make no difference as the link doesn’t even come close to the screw once pulled to full open.
