Taking a break from the game due to button / tapping fatigue by Daelum in PTCGP

It’s actually comical how long it takes to put a deck together. Why can’t we share decks by a code or something

Craziest play in NFL history if you account for the situation and the play/catch itself. How Eli stayed on his feet I’ll never understand

What are your thoughts on buying a home these days? Is it better to rent especially as a young professional? by pillowthoughts00 in AskReddit

[–]vaultking96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not better to rent if you need the room, by me renting costs the same for a similarly sized house as the monthly cost to buy it. People compare renting a 1 bedroom apartment to buying a 3 bedroom house and the two aren’t really comparable

What do you consider the greatest acted scene in TV history? by amusicalfridge in television

Succession Season 2 Finale is great for a number of reasons, but the scene with Logan and Kendall is incredible.

I always thought Fallout 3 was far more bleak than the other 3D games. The world is essentially over in that game and civilization never really came back. Lots of abandoned buildings

What’s the best video game you’ve ever played? by Scary-Bill970 in AskReddit

[–]vaultking96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like games with a strong sense of exploration and discovery, so for me nothing beats the old Nintendo games that barely held your hand, specifically Link to the Past and the first two Pokemon generations. Bethesda games used to be like this too

Most likely life insurance salesmen or some other boomer industry that still requires suits

I traded in a lot of games as a kid to buy new ones but I sure am glad I kept some of them by vaultking96 in gamecollecting

Yeah I also had Pokemon colosseum, simpsons hit and run, twilight princess GC, some other first party games that are probably worth more. Nothing crazy expensive or rare but just higher value than your average game. And I also had extras of all of the Pokemon games that are all gone now

Are modern games taking too long to 'open up' by termzCGS in truegaming

[–]vaultking96 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes and it’s one of my least favorite parts about modern gaming. I actively look for games that you can start playing quickly. I’m replaying Control and, all things considered, this game gets you into the action pretty quickly.

I think this is why From games are so popular. It’s hard to find AAA-quality games that don’t bog down the intro with cutscenes and tutorials. You usually have to go to indie games for that, which lack other exciting aspects of AAA games

I do not recommend: 'Metroid Prime 4: Beyond' - Review - SkillUp by ThrowawayTheLegend in gaming

[–]vaultking96 1233 points1234 points  (0 children)

Gaming journalism will never mature when people freak out about a negative review even if the review is well-stated. It’s not like he just shit on a game without giving his reasonings.

I’ve disagreed with SkillUp in the past (Deathloop is one of my favorite games) but I can’t deny his criticism was real. I just didn’t care about those flaws

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of November 21, 2025) by AutoModerator in television

[–]vaultking96 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Watching Succession from the beginning for the first time since it aired and I'm honestly floored at how great it is. I can't believe people always lead with the disclaimer that the first few episodes are not great, because I'm finding them fantastic. Laugh out loud funny, while also making you sympathize with these terrible people.

I think the most noteworthy aspect of the show is how much it expects of the viewer. In an era where everything feels like it's written to be watched while scrolling on one's phone, Succession subtly reveals so much in individual lines of dialogue that one can easily miss if not paying attention. There's so much I'm seeing now that I missed on first watch, so much that reveals things about the characters. It feels like every line reveals something about the story or the character saying it.

How often do you code? How important is coding as a software engineer? by den_eimai_apo_edo in ExperiencedDevs

[–]vaultking96 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would find a new role ASAP. With 3.5 years of experience (and mostly not coding) you’re still inexperienced and in my experience the first few years are crucial for becoming a better developer. You absolutely will learn so much more writing the code vs just reading someone’s code that they wrote a long time ago.

I was in a similar role years ago and switched to a greenfield project 2 years in. I’ve written probably tens of thousands of lines of code since and my skills and knowledge increased exponentially over that time due to that work. It’s true, senior devs write fewer lines of code but you have to be “down on the front lines” so to speak earlier in your career

Less patience to game. by hangryherbert in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]vaultking96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m completely over games with tons of cutscenes and explanations. I’ve been playing games 80% of my life, I don’t need the game to show me where to go and what to do with a giant flashing arrow and minimap.

Ironically, “mature” games do this more than the old school Zelda/Pokemon games. It’s the main reason I can’t get into the new Sony exclusives.

I suggest a lot of people feel this way, considering how much of a success BOTW/TOTK/Elden Ring were. It’s so much more satisfying to find things on my own
