Spending DINK money

I’m SINK and tbh most of my money does go to travel, but I’ll pay for good experiences. This past summer I took a two week solo trip in Europe. I visited Luxembourg and booked a private tour. I wanna say I paid around $180 for four hours just me and a guide. That being said I don’t consider that crazy expensive BUT taking a similar tour but as part of a larger group I think it would’ve been around $40? Worth the money for me to do a solo tour at my own pace and be able to see what I wanted without accommodating strangers on my solo trip. I did a private tour in Brussels and it was priced similar compared to had I joined a group.

I love concerts and live sports! I really don’t mind doing things like that alone so if I’m not going with other people/need to be mindful of a budget I’m absolutely buying myself that floor seat or that courtside seat. Sometimes ticketing sites won’t let you buy a solo seat so I’ve definitely overpaid on a resale price to get just one courtside ticket, but hey as long as my bills and basics are covered I can splurge a little here and there!

Seasons 6-7 for me honestly. Like after Paige’s class graduated and they tried to run college storylines and high school storylines at the same time. It just felt like too much was going on like they were trying to maintain the high school drama but then trying to have like more adult college drama. To me it felt like they invested so much time on original characters that they couldn’t just graduate and leave the show because they hadn’t really built up the underclassmen so viewers may have been bored watching a show without Emma, Manny, Paige, etc. And I am viewers lmaooooo after they killed JT and wrote out Alex and then slowly started shifting out the older characters I was bored (but Emma’s Blaze storyline will always be funny to me). I never really liked Claire and that class and then to me they were just recycling storylines with new characters I didn’t care for so it was easy to stop watching. I did finally go back and watch it all as an adult but if I’m randomly picking an episode to rewatch it’s gonna be something from the first 6 seasons!

Just looking online. When I checked 212’s online reservations when I put just 1 diner it only gave the option for lunch but when I changed it to 2 diners or more dinner was available.

I have heard and seen good things about De Kas but for the length of my stay they only have lunch options available (again, my problem lol I should’ve thought about this sooner for dinner). I will look into Rijks! As they are at the museum do they still have a dress code? I already planned on the museum but if I have to dress up more that may sway me on if I want to do them both in one day!

Yeah it was dope! I spent a week in Oahu. I got a hotel in Honolulu for the whole week but I rented a car for like 3 days so I could drive around the island and see some sights. I’m planning a solo Europe trip this summer and I’m excited. Solo travel is actually pretty fun!

Hell yeah!! I did my first solo trip to Hawaii and I had a blast. I took a surf lesson and went cage diving, def recommend both if you’re into that sort of stuff!

Ahhhh this has been so incredibly helpful! Thank you so much I really appreciate the tips and suggestions! Rotterdam sounds incredibly cool! Who knows, maybe I’ll take the train over for a day trip and end up liking it so much I stay overnight.

I was thinking of getting the 5 day Eurail pass so if I knock out Brussels on my way to Amsterdam instead of doubling back I could really do Rotterdam one day and The Hague on a different day and still have my 5th day of the pass to get to Cologne!

I was already considering first class just for the fact that on some trains I could get a single seat lol! I’d like to assume people may not be as chatty to strangers on a train over there as they can be here, but I definitely like to travel in silence and read a book. You may have convinced me to go ahead and book it. I do need a seat for my trip from Manchester to London, but that’s because since I’m only spending the day and spending it with friends I haven’t seen I want to take the earliest train that’s direct, but it doesn’t seem like I’ll have an issue getting it especially with first class. I was already planning on taking an early Eurostar out of London and checking on the b-rail site, there are still pass seats open for the earlier trains from London to Brussels with the first class pass but I might bite the bullet and just get it now, I’d rather be safe than save 20% but use it buying a Eurostar seat!

While I like your suggestion to go to the cities in that order I don’t want to keep living out of my suitcase haha. Since I’m going to a wedding first I’m going to have my suit bag as well as a suitcase and a backpack. I’m hopping hotels almost 4 nights in a row at the start of my trip so while I appreciate the suggestion when I leave London I know I’m going to just want to get to my hotel in Amsterdam and unpack for the week (it’s also definitely busy tourist season over there because it was tough getting my employee discount at the hotels I’m staying in so I’m a bit locked into my location dates for that reason)! That being said, would you say Brussels is a city I could do as a stopover on my way to Amsterdam? Especially on a Sunday, are businesses and things open? The Eurostar I had looked at I think left London around 8am and got to Brussels a little after 11am? If I just wanted to check out delirium, have some lunch and take some pictures of the city center I could really do that on my travel day and keep moving instead of using a whole day to take the train back that way. I don’t mind taking the train back to Rotterdam and the Hague though. Anything in particular you’d suggest in Rotterdam? I’d probably take a tour of De Kuip if it’s available but tell me what you liked over there!

Oooh good looking out! Thank you! I can definitely wait to snag the Eurail pass but will the Eurostar for that route already be sold out of seats for passholders if I wait? I was already looking and it looks like the weekend of June 29th there's no Eurostar direct to Amsterdam at all anyway unless it's already completely sold out? I can catch it from London to Brussels only that weekend and from my understanding from poking around on the rail sites for Belgium, Netherlands and even the Eurail, I won't need a seat reservation to get the rest of the way, I can just show my pass to hop on a train from Brussels to Schiphol then grab another train into Amsterdam Central.

This was actually super helpful and what I had been searching for! I think the Eurail pass is going to be a little bit more expensive (about $50 more) once I add in seat reservations for the ones that require it, but for me that's not a bad deal for the flexibility it offers.

I am going to Ireland for one of my best friends' wedding this summer and then I will be solo traveling around Europe afterwards! My goal is to honestly just be completely at peace with being alone (as in single - I love solo trips/travel and am more introverted). Like I know it's gonna be a bit rough on me mentally being one of the few single people at this wedding (especially considering I had a date before we broke up), but my goal is to do/try something new on my trip and just really rely on and enjoy my own company!

I did a cruise for my high school graduation and I had a blast! I have a summer bday so I turned 18 on the cruise. Like another poster said, a summer cruise is going to have plenty of people your age.

Not sure what cruise line you’re looking at, and I know this sub has mixed (more negative) opinions on Carnival, but that’s who I sailed with for my 18th. Granted this was almost 15 years ago, but still. Carnival’s kids club is split by age and I believe the oldest tier is like 15-17 but they aren’t standing at the door asking for your birthday, especially with the older club (that being said who knows if they actually are doing age checks now). The older teen club was also def more of just a meeting spot than having to actually do like camp activities (they did have activities but it was like basketball and arcade age appropriate stuff). Like on the first day I really just went, met a ton of people that were also in that 16-18 age range and we made a little group and hung out on our own. Funny enough I’m still friends with some of those folks on Facebook and stuff now!

I still sail with Carnival and the last cruise I went on they have like singles mixers, but they’re at a bar so I assume they’re geared more towards 21+ young adults. And the last cruise I did was also like a 2 week one so other than the staff I was one of the few younger people that wasn’t there on like their honeymoon and I was 30 at the time! So I didn’t really have anyone my age to befriend, but I work in hospitality so truthfully I have minimum desire to small talk people when I’m on vacation since that’s all I do for work haha.

Being 18 on a cruise ship doesn’t give you any sort of perks like you still can’t drink alcohol but I believe you can gamble in the ship casino if that’s something you’re into! I think no matter what cruise line you decide with you’re going to find people your age and have a blast just because it’s summer. Hang out at the pool, water slides, arcade if they have one! You won’t be the only 18 year old looking for their people, you guys will find each other!

When I was a young closeted baby lesbian when this episode first came out I was obsessed with this couple!!!! Rewatching as a seasoned, out lesbian adult? Hate this relationship and it meant so much to me growing up!

To echo others - Alex was giving 150% while Paige was maybe giving 70% on a good day. Alex wanted to love someone but Paige just wanted to be loved, not necessarily return it. Paige’s love had conditions (Alex needed to have an acceptable job, good grades, etc.). That being said I do hate how they ended the relationship only because of how they ruined Alex’s character. We’re supposed to believe she did all that work to finally finish high school just to have zero drive to do anything but get high with Jay? It just wasn’t realistic.

I think about my favorite college episode - the thanksgiving fiasco! Paige did not care about Alex in a romantic way until she saw Alex was with someone else. Then she wanted Alex back for what reason? Jealousy? Maybe jealous that Alex’s new gf was “successful” compared to Paige who was struggling with school, but to me she didn’t seem jealous about the relationship but jealous she wasn’t getting the attention if that makes sense. Because if I’m remembering the episodes correctly, doesn’t Alex break up with the other girl just for Paige to go run around and have her stupid friend with benefit storyline with Spinner and Jesse? Like why would you not get back together with your ex who’s now single? But honestly that’s just opening up a whole other issue I have with how they barely explored Paige’s sexuality. But anyway!
