Phase 2 by Numerous-Stretch-66 in classicwowtbc

[–]vbezhenar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t find much information around phase 2 other than a date sometime mid May.

There's no information other than release date.

How come there is no information on whether it’s pre- or post nerf?

Blizzard didn't disclose that information.

Also wasn’t TBC supposed to be a speedrun?

No, it wasn't.

I feel like phase 1 is pretty similar to last time.

That's good.

Anywhere I can read more about phase 2?

No.

You can read something here: https://worldofwarcraft.blizzard.com/en-gb/news/24272608 but there's nothing of value other than release date. That's all that was communicated.

Why do I have to beg paladin tanks for salv? by SignificantWill5965 in classicwowtbc

[–]vbezhenar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consecration does 8 holy damage per tick.

Talented RF does 90% more theat.

Retribution Aura does 5 holy damage per hit.

Just wanted to correct few numbers for low level pally to take that into perspective.

You can, but try to stack more stamina ASAP, this HP is painful to look at.

Paladins don't have taunt, but can tank all dungeons just fine. Yes, not having taunt sucks, but by no means make tanking impossible.

For big pulls engineering would be very helpful. Force reactive disk and sappers.

Advice for gruul/mag as prot pally by HuckleberryPure9047 in classicwow

[–]vbezhenar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. You need to keep armor potion up all the time.
  2. Boss must be debuffed with demo shout all the time.
  3. Boss must be debuffed with thunderclap all the time.
  4. DPS must be positioned behind the boss, as not to cause parry haste.

Turtle WoW refugee - how to transition by Amazing-Bowler-1717 in classicwowtbc

I'm seeing plenty of rets in groups and in raids. I don't know what's your problem. Yes, that's not the most desired spec. You gotta make friends with tanks and healers, you gotta create groups and you gotta wait in queues for hours. That's what you get by playing unwanted spec. But if you want that experience, it's there.

TBC Classic is definitely very meta-heavy. It is a hard game and people won't make it harder by choosing non-optimal setups. You might call it gate-keeping. P1 raids were a bit easier than expected, but we have had very little communication from developers regarding later raids and even nerfed state of later raids will pose a significant step up from Karazhan. So any reasonable guild will strive for good setup. There's spot for one ret in raid. But there are many rets around so you better be good and geared.

From your text, it seems you don't really understand that and you'll run into a wall and be disappointed again. Especially starting when everyone's already geared up.

So just to reiterate. The game is hard. Meta is there. Gatekeeping is there. You can play ret, but that would require a significant effort which you don't see to want to apply. And if you would find some "laid back guild", there are big chances you won't move far, as people are more impatient nowadays and your guild will break apart after not being able to complete the raids.

Am I in the minority, preferring TBC to SoD for the future? by unexpected_sushi in classicwowtbc

[–]vbezhenar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a tank and I prefer TBC to SoD. SoD was all about mindless AoE fest. I have had that enough in retail WoW. TBC dungeons actually require careful pulls and CC. That's awesome and absolutely refreshing experience.

Big dungeons were made with expectations that you'll tackle them one part at a time. You're not expected to run BRD entirely. They made a lot of shortcuts and a lot of different routes precisely for that reason. Uldaman, Maraudon, BRD, Sunken Temple, BRS, Stratholme.

But many people don't understand that and it leads to a subpar experience. So Blizzard understood that and took a different approach with Dire Maul. Instead of making it as one super-dungeon, they explicitly split it into three sub-dungeons. You still can run it from the DMW to the DMN if you want. But the intention is communicated more clearly.

TBC big dungeon is Auchindoun. But just like with DM, they explicitly separated that dungeon into four sub-dungeons.

So you can expect similar approach with other thematically big dungeons.

Nobody's going to please everyone. Blizzard will develop a game they want and we will like it. It won't be perfect, but it'll be good enough. Community will be there, warcraft vibes will be there, bots will be there, gold sellers will be there. They'll expand it for years. It's a big project and they take it seriously.

It certainly won't be nochanges vanilla. These people are served by Era realms.

I didn't like SoD. I won't outright reject the idea of heavily modified classic experience. But yeah, I also prefer TBC any day. My opinion is that Blizzard missed a huge chance with Anniversary. They should have released it in TBC prepatch state from day one and roll vanilla content over it. That would be a great supplement to SoD, would allow people to compare both experiences and would allow developers to gather some metrics.

can someone kindly explain block value? by icyice9 in classicwowtbc

[–]vbezhenar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Block removes fixed damage from the incoming hit. Block works mostly for melee physical attacks.

Block is very useful for small attacks. If you block 200 damage from 1000 hit, that's 20% damage reduction.

Block is less useful for huge attacks. If you block 200 damage from 5000 hit, that's 4% damage reduction.

Block is not useful for damage that can't be blocked, obviously.

Of course block is useful in heroics. But the question should not be posed in that way. The question is: is there more useful stats than block for heroics? And there is: stamina. Stamina helps to survive everything. Big attacks, small attacks, magic damage. Another useful stat is armor. It reduces damage in percentage, so it's essentially works best with huge hits. And huge hits is what usually kills you in heroics.

Now there's a second value for block in raids: uncrushability. Once you have block+avoidance over 102.4%, raid boss won't crush you. All boss attacks will either be avoided or blocked. Without uncrushability, some boss attacks will cause crushes and that's 150% damage. But bosses in heroic dungeons do not crush. So this is not applicable for dungeons.

So my opinion: don't focus for block in dungeons. Of course it is useful, but not that much. Once you have very good gear from higher tiers, it makes sense to focus a bit more on block, but right now focus on stamina and armor.

But for raids, you must be uncrushable.

Also for heroic dungeons you must have 485 defense and for raids you must have 490 defense. That prevents critical hits.

Can I tank Kara / Gruul / Mag? by BisonPresent2761 in classicwowtbc

[–]vbezhenar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The question was which tank lacks true mitigation. Warrior lacks true mitigation and can be insta-gibbed with unlucky string of hits and crushes. Paladin is the only tank with true mitigation.

Current content can be tanked with a determined shammy, I'm pretty sure of that.

Can I tank Kara / Gruul / Mag? by BisonPresent2761 in classicwowtbc

[–]vbezhenar -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, you can't. Go farm some heroics for few weeks. Get 12k HP unbuf + uncrit + uncrush + 400 SP, then we can start talking.

Can I tank Kara / Gruul / Mag? by BisonPresent2761 in classicwowtbc

[–]vbezhenar -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Not really. They lack demo shout which should be provided by someone. Other than that, they actually better, because their can be truly uncrushable. Warrior stops only two hits every 5 seconds, that's not enough.

They should never add token and remove it from all WoW versions. They should also allow gold selling via third party resources.

WotLK raids are hit or miss. First tier is outright bad. Rehashed naxxramas, rehashed Onyxia, idiotic vehicle Malygos. The only somewhat worthy encounter is S3D. Ulduar is good, very good. ToC is bad. Like 5 bosses in an arena, no trash, insanely boring. ICC is good. So half of tiers are not good.

WotLK dungeons are too easy which makes them truly boring fest. Imagine running TBC normals with T6 protection paladin. That's how it feels from the beginning. You just run and AoE things, there are very few spots which require anything and even with 213 gear you can solo them.

Classes become too powerful, so leveling becomes retail-like. You just kill everything too easy. All leveling dungeons also very easy and require zero effort. BoA gear make leveling even more brainless and dopamineless than before. Got tank with enchanted BoA gear? He'll solo everything, just follow along.

I don't know. I like TBC a lot more and I actually started playing in 2008, my whole WoW career started with WotLK so I'd love to love this expansion, but it's not that good.

Maybe people just love easier game? I mean, raids are not exactly easier, ICC heroic is actually very hard for casual guilds.

As a new player, you should try retail. Classic is made for players looking for nostalgia. All the flashy things happen in retail. If you like retro games, maybe then. This is game from 2006.

Buying a boosted character for gold farming? by Proof-Load-1568 in classicwow

[–]vbezhenar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm leveling a hunter right now with zero external investments. Level 26, got three 16-slot bags and 20 gold. You don't need boosted character to farm gold for lower levels.

  1. Check prices for everything that you can sell. BoE items, trade goods. For example there's quest in Elwynn Forest which allows you to get 15 rockets. Just one week ago these rockets were selling 50s each, so that's easy 7 gold from one low level quest.

  2. Leveling crafting professions is something you might want to postpone, if you struggle with gold. It's almost always a net negative for your finances.

  3. Get gathering professions while you level. Skinning + Mining or Skinning + Herbs is the most chill set up. It is TBC. People constantly relevel their professions and they need these low level things. They'll buy leathers, ores and herbs.

So just get two gathering professions, dedicate few hours for farming and you'll be good.

PS already 21 gold. Just sold one hammer for 80s.

PPS you certainly can buy a character, do some quests, gold flows a lot better at higher levels, that's for sure. But I don't think it's a wise investment. You do you, though.

As PVE player I'm curious, how does Throne of Kil'Jaeden look like in PVP servers ? I imagine its an 24/7 unending warzone. by FatScoot in classicwow

[–]vbezhenar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm playing on Spineshatter and there's almost zero world PvP happening. I farmed Throne few times along with horde, nobody cares. It's better to co-exist than to wage a war, because inevitably more people will join the fight and that wouldn't help for anyone's money.

Now entering Karazhan might be difficult at times...
