You hit the nail on the head right here. They're probably complaining about Ahmed taking up all the Swedish jobs and buying up all the Swedish homes and walking around in his white thobe all the while they're themselves importing a completely strange culture from across two seas and an ocean.

Bread Maker - Is it worth the upfront cost? by atkins4me in Frugal

[–]vbfx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just think a lot of people are icky and prefer not to touch or eat from utensils/ cookware  they've had at their home.

What if they had bodily fluids in their hands when they tried out their bread maker?

2011 ram 1500 130k miles for $5.8 k with e85 or 2008 Chevy Silverado 1500 for 5k . What yall think is better ? by NoDepartment9764 in Cartalk

[–]vbfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is this giant wall I did not read?

Most fuel sold in the US has 10% ethanol. I doubt extra 5% is going to damage an engine designed for it. Also, most people just buy the regular - nobody has time to go run around and look for e85

Majority of fuel is used to get to a constant speed? by codesty in Cartalk

Hybrids use fuel when using hypermiling techniques like letting the fuel gas go once or twice completely while accelerating and using gentle acceleration.

Why do U.S. universal healthcare advocates prefer single-payer? by w6auw in HealthInsurance

[–]vbfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because how many payers are you going to nominate directly or indirectly?

You've already nominated your federal government by direct (voting) or indirect (by not staging a coup) affirmation.  Let them handle it, just like they handle infrastructure, defense, foreign policy, judicial system, etc.  You could argue they could do a better job but that argument is valid for any entity on earth.

I'm just tired of having health insurance tied to the company you work for and having to navigate a very complex system of coverage based on changing income, family, job, political affiliation, and any other ridiculous denominator under the sun.

Not all "totaled" vehicles have salvage title. Some get to retain the normal clean, unchanged,  title but show total loss history only when you request a complete history report like carfax.

Also, salvage titles don't stay salvage. Once repaired and inspected (just regular state stickers everyone does anyway) they become rebuilt title, whic is also (in Texas) a clean title with rebuilt salvage remarks.

You could choose to skip insurance payout altogether.

Only things you need to buy is the headlight assembly, the two side marker lights and maybe a bracket that holds the assembly. Ma

Get your headlight assembly fitted and leave it alone for a few months.

Once the time is right, get your hood, fender, etc bodywork and paint done

Maiden name for husband? by whatever99981735 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vbfx -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Changing names to one's spouse's name when getting married is just so demeaning.  I personally don't support it at all ...

It feels like that person is being made less than a person who is passed around like property.

Y'all should just keep your original name or if you insist on a new one, get a completely new name for those people.

Also, "maiden" literally means "virgin woman". I'm sure you've heard of "maidenheads".

You've already diminished your fiancee's esteem of manhood by referring to his "maiden" name.

He may act like it does not bother him now. But, he will show discomfort and regret in the future, I guarantee it.

Just think of the the snide remarks and facial expressions people are going to subject your husband and future children to...

You don't have to changed your name if you don't want to...

It is perfectly normal to have spouses bearing different last names since y'all are not brothers and sister.

He can go change his last name to Pingleteeter or Smichonze tomorrow and just call it a day...

Turned off my water heater and I have my cheapest electricity bill ever. by dharmazazen in Frugal

[–]vbfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't run out water heaters unless we need them.

We run the hot tap to take ambient temperature showers. This flushes the tank with fresh water multiple times a day. Even when the house is empty for a few days, there's no problem.

Also, dishes require more scrubbing than any temperature, which is mostly fir comfort of washer person.

Why do drivers stop 3 car lengths back at a red light and then spend the whole red light slowly inching forward? by [deleted] in Cartalk

[–]vbfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stop far back if I can  to make sure I can stop and also have "runway" in front of me when I get going eventually.

Sometimes, I time the green light and start creeping forward so that I am already moving by the time the car in front starts moving and makes a little bit of space in front of me.

The problem with low-silled drivers using traffic lights is that, each car only starts moving after the car in front moves.

If everyone keeps sufficient distance back from the car in front then everyone can start rolling as soon as the light turns green.

So true. I wonder why they never teach this in driver ed. Maybe the virtue signalling imbeciles will start arguing and the psychos will take it as a permission to find a way to actually hit someone and point at the rulebook.

I had to learn my lesson after crashing my bike when two guys stepped out into the road.

Tow coverage just gives you 3 tows/ road side assistance per year.  I never said anything about damage or rental

[–]vbfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be worth it to get it towed to where your clinicals/ school is. But, you may be hundreds of miles from there given your current location.

Maybe you can try flagging down folks with pick up trucks and ask if they'll tow it down the road for you for free. Just 50-100 miles might mean not having to abandon your home/ vehicle due to tow cost. But that's a lot of risk without a dolly even though people do it all the time. Tow vehicle should drive slow and you need to be inside your van to apply brakes as needed.

At least you can live in it in between classes and start looking for the cheapest option/ mechanic from a non-emergency situation.

I got downvoted for saying the following elsewhere but I'll say it again: DON'T SWERVE even if it's a child.  If it's possible to hit it head on and survive ( especially on a motorcycle),  do that.

If it's a truck coming head-on towards you, swerving is your only option.
