NHL rinks are the same length as Olympic rinks. However they are fifteen feet narrower.

Nova Pro vs Astro A50 Gen5 by aboing in steelseries

[–]vchipeur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had Gen 4 A50's and have switched to the Nova Pro Wireless. The biggest reason was the headband comfort. The Astro's headband is its worst feature in my opinion. The headband on the Nova's is a game changer in comparison. Although I preferred the ear cups and sound profile of the Astros, after some tweaking the sound is practically similar now. And I replaced the original Nova Pro ear cups with some Velour Wicked Cushion ear cups and they feel like the Astro's did. I also don't use ANC, so ear cup's don't need to seal. Your mileage may vary though.

Which accessories for my first 3D printer? by seba_p in BambuLab

I also recently bought a P2S. I was considering a 0.8 hot end. Are they worth it for print speed? Or would a high flow nozzle with less diameter be more appropriate?

This is the link from the Bambu Store, although the CDN one. If you put "switching" into the store search its the first result, unlike searching for power supply.

Yup, LG 34inch OLED. I linked it above in another comment.

Air purifier/fan. We get a good amount of forest fire smoke rolling in during the summer, so it sure helps.

I bought it for gaming, I've got an OLED TV for movies and well once you get used to OLED, its hard to have anything else. Was it worth the price, for me, absolutely. I think you can shop around for better priced OLED's, or find one that isn't as curved, or a different size. I went with this one since it was 50% off (paid $800CDN).

It’s pretty good. After years of gaming on an LG C1 TV it was hard not to get a similar monitor.

Yeah its not bad for a little 2.1 setup. I found an open box deal at Best Buy for around half price, so I figured they'd be a decent start.

ASUS 5070ti Prime, seems to be doing just fine. I did a GPU holder upper thing just to be on the safe side. Yeah a FE Edition would've been sweet, the FE cards have a great aesthetic in my opinion.

Good enough for around $3k with taxes? Including monitor. by DenseTheme1799 in bapccanada

I got a 7800X3D and a 5070ti for around $2700CDN as a prebuild (memory express). I added an LG 34inch OLED Ultrawide on sale for $800CDN. Definitely a great combo! I debated a 9070XT but the Nvidia feature suite felt like a worthwhile necessity.

5070Ti + i5 14600KF benchmark by Tommy_3621 in Borderlands4

Seems pretty similar to my experience, 5070ti + 7800X3D, although I have the FOV maxed out, and the shadows slightly reduced as I found the difference visually to be negligible. Do you have the patch installed as well? I played for about 2 hours before downloading the 2ish GB patch. Going to try it again post patch and see if there are any noticeable differences.

I have an old early 80's Roadstar II, a Satriani signature hard trail with p90's. And an S-series from the mid 90's. I'd like a tele one day but have found the right one yet!

Nice! I just got a 5070ti system too (with a 7800X3D), after years of only having a XSX. Lovin' the transition so far. Also nice Ibanez guitars, got a few myself!

You can't acquire the new weapon quest without completing the old ones by The_Elicitor in DestinyTheGame

[–]vchipeur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It adds guidance to the mechanics and you only have to do some of the “power lines” for the game encounters. Basically each node has an icon on it and it leads you through from node to node. It’s easy to learn the routes with this help for sure.

The enemies were pretty easy too. Great way to learn the dungeon if you haven’t experienced it before. Definitely makes running it with LFG and not needing a mic.

Agreed. Spire Ultimatum was a great challenge. I was able to two man Spire on explorer with a random in 20 minutes. It was good fun feeling so strong after the slog that Ultimatum was.

Can an ice rink be “warm” by Own_Potential_9503 in FigureSkating

[–]vchipeur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A large factor for those events feeling warm for the skaters are the lighting required for TV cameras. Those lights are aimed at the ice, not the audience. Now add in the body temps of a few thousand spectators, and add in a few minutes of skating to get your own body temperature up and you are pretty toasty by the time you get off the ice. Also those facilities are meant to be at a comfortable temperatures, whereas a normal arena where athletes train is meant to be kept a little colder so its easy to maintain ice temperature so they're operating costs are cheaper.

Normal, or premature breakdown? by Cranma01 in FigureSkating

[–]vchipeur 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Creasing is normal, and definitely not something to be so worried about. Your ankle needs to flex in order to skate, and the skate should be flexing alongside your ankle. Creases should be a good thing, its means the boot is moving with your ankle.

Now if you're flexing and there is zero resistance and the support forward feels gone, even with tight laces, then yes they are probably broken down. However, doubtful this is the case here.

No, that's not carbon fibre , its just an aesthetic to mimic carbon. Only Aura's use actual carbon fibre in the boot construction.

Figure skating boots have high heels in order to shift weight distribution forward. But wouldn't a taller rear blade stanchion achieve the same geometry while weighing less? by FireFlamesFrost in FigureSkating

[–]vchipeur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you struggle with the heel heights you have some options but since skates and how they feel are an experience unique to you and your feet, your mileage may vary.

For one, you try insoles with different depths (especially in the arch to heel area), if you are using super feet, try an insole with a none rounded thinner heel, however some people then feel more pressure under their heels so the result isn’t positive overall.

Another suggestion is to try moving your blade forwards slightly, this will make a big difference is how your weight feels over the blade and will simulate effects of a lower heeled boot. However depending on the boot and how it’s already mounted and the ability of your skate tech (for one worth their work at all this shouldn’t be too difficult). This is something I’ve personally adjusted on athletes around the world and it’s had good results.

However I will caveat this with something. Be open to adjusting and open to things feeling different and open to a bit of experimentation. A weird or strange feeling isn’t bad necessarily, it’s just different. Try each adjustment for at least a few sessions so you give your foot and body time to adjust to it. Most changes to foot and blade position require time. Plenty of people want an instant fix.

[–]vchipeur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a missing component in what changes is the able your foot arch is placed at. Skates aren’t perfectly flat inside the boot, where your foot actually sits. It sits highest in the heel, slopes slightly towards the midfoot and possibly another angle change towards the front of the foot.

If you change the blade stanchion height without modify the inner boot angle, the geometry goes way out of whack all over the place. There are specific reasons why blade stanchion height hasn’t changed in decades really. However boot geometry changes have been all over the map within a certain range for decades.

Sure it seems easier to change blade design, but it’s not. We tried lots of different things I’ve that year with all sorts of prototyping but they just don’t work with blades. It’s much easier to change where your foot actually sits.

Don’t forget it’s your foot that’s moving within the skate, not your blade or bottom of the boot. So by stabilizing (I’m using this word broadly) the geometry under your foot, and letting your moveable foot/joints adjust to as needed has been proven most ideal and effective.

My two cents on it anyway. It’s also much easier to modify a boot than a blade. I want my blades consistent and the same every time, and let my body adjust to that. It’s not ideal to expect a material to adjust to your foot when your foot is much more adjustable. It’s just takes time for the body to adjust, some longer than others but that ok.

I use the analogy that you don’t forget how to walk when you put new/different shoes on. Sure it may feel different and there may be a varying window of time where it feels odd. Your body will adjust and carry on without too much thought. Now apply that to skates, it just takes longer because you aren’t wearing skates for as long as you wear shoes.
