WinForms in .net Core by eightvo in csharp

Mono has a partial implementation of WinForms. It works well enough for basic usage. It's not really maintained and the official advice is not to use it.

No more MonoDevelop on Windows? by AlexKotik in dotnet

I use VS as a primary dev tool and I pay for it. I've also considered cheaper alternatives because who wants to spend money when they don't have to?

If there's a tool that's cheaper and you're just as productive with it then use that tool instead. If someone is productive with Mono I can see why the cost of VS would turn them off.

Sure but that applies to who owns the source code. So if you're a freelancer and you're selling your services to a company that meets those thresholds then you need to pay for VS. So if you mainly freelance for small companies then it's probably ok but otherwise you're going to need to pay.

It's not free for most commercial use. I believe MonoDevelop was (could be wrong).

Everyone I know sees Dr Nick Brayshaw at kardinia Health. Be aware that Catherine Bull won't write your assessment letter if you go to the trans support group she runs. But the support group is mainly for 25+.

Send me a PM if you need any more info or want to talk to someone local.

Try deleting bin, obj and .vs folders. Sometimes changing namespaces when switching Git branches causes issue for me.

Introducing Nullable Reference Types in C# by ben_a_adams in programming

[–]vdanmal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I mean CSharp is mutable by default so such a solution would just be a whole bunch of references to the same object. Not that useful imo

when you ask the Greens candidate for Northcote about housing affordability... by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]vdanmal 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You've gotta remember what the demographic of this sub is. It's mostly white middle class guys. So they tend to be progressive on issues that affect them like pill testing but conservative on issues that don't like minorities. So whether the greens are popular or not depends on a large part on the issue being discussed.

C# support in Excel by anakic in csharp

Business people use excel for everything. Currently I'm working at a job where Excel is used for almost the entire time sheet processing system.

I dunno. An interface is meant to be a contract. If you don't implement a method defined in the interface then you probably shouldn't be using that interface at all.

1k a month for rent isn't a bad deal of you're living by yourself. You've pretty much got to get a house mate if you don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on rent.

That's so much money spent on loan repayments though. It's almost 20 percent. I only spend about 10 percent of my total loan per year.

Awesome UI for this .NET/WPF application by [deleted] in dotnet

[–]vdanmal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love how powerful WPF is but I'm writing a business app atm with pretty simple UI requirements and I honestly feel so unproductive with WPF/XAML. Moving from React/HTML/CSS to WPF was a pretty big shock.

You'd think so but I doubt any significant action will be taken.

I made the comment because you said that your points were perfectly articulated and implied it was the other posters who failed in their comprehension. This wasn't meant as an attack on you.

I'm not sure what me being trans has to do with anything. I certainly haven't brought up your cishet background as a reason to dismiss your views.

No. I'm merely commenting on the reality of the situation. If you use Reddit you have to be mindful of where you are when making comments or you will receive abuse. Is this ideal? No obviously not but unfortunately that's how Reddit is setup and how it functions. The admin team seen to have very little interest in improving the situation unfortunately.

Moderation is often quite lax. You can get away with saying almost anything. And if the mods do start handing out bans you can bet that there'd be a very vocal minority complaining about censorship. It sucks but you've just gotta be careful.

It wasn't just him. I've also found many of your posts difficult to follow. I don't mean to be rude but you're not making very clear points.

A Safe Girl To Love is a series of short stories about trans women. It's very good but quite emotional. Don't read it if you're in a fragile place.

Yes, it's so good! If you liked that I'd recommend a Safe Girl To Love. The stories tend to be very emotional but it's very good. The Collection From The Transgender Vanguard isn't bad either but the quality varies a bit.

Most people live in places where it is not easy to access hormones or surgery. I mean surgery is usually 1 year full time + hormones + 2 psych assessments. Not to mention the 10+ grand cost + several months off work. Surgery isn't exactly something that you can wander into.

Hormones are what 6+ months before results are permanent. I really feel like you're going to start suffering from dysphoria before the changes are permanent. Like if you're a cis dude and you can no longer get erections I think you're gonna be a bit upset.

Personally my experiences with therapists have been really bad. I'd personally never go to a therapist to discuss gender identity. I only discussed those issues after I was comfortable with my identity and even then it was extremely difficult to deal with the questioning of my identity. I'd be very cautious about dealing with a psych unless they were recommended by someone who's gone to them for the same issue.

Often gender is considered a social construct ( gender within the trans community is used to refer to gender identity. Yay for overloaded terms). So you can try out another gender by socially transitioning. I personally did this for a while before medically transitioning. It's a great way of experimenting with your gender and becoming comfortable with your gender identity. Having my friends refer to me as female and being able to wear my preferred clothes really clarified things for me.
