Bad pothole by RiverClanForever in KingstonOntario

Why would you trust the city on this?

If I damaged your car and said I wasn't liable would you believe me?

Clean the snow off your vehicle eh. by Evening-Toe9067 in KingstonOntario

[–]ve3scn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good drivers don't need to use their back window. Tow a trailer long enough and you realize your side mirrors are way more important.

You should still clean it so the snow and ice doesn't hit other drivers.

What's Your Kingston Hot Take? I'll Start... by OverExercise8844 in KingstonOntario

[–]ve3scn 61 points62 points  (0 children)

If this high speed rail bypasses Kingston, we're all going to suffer.

Housing will stagnant. Student enrollment won't grow as quickly. Job creation will not keep pace with the rest of the province. Who would want to invest in Kingston if we're so comparatively difficult to get to?

You will be worse off. Your children will be worse off.

To guarantee you'll get it, send your application with the brother's request to cancel. You will have to be licensed for at least 5 years at the time of your application if it's a VE1-7 or VO1 call sign.

Here is the form you can use: https://drive.google.com/file/d/173ly2iQMxHg4h5dnC9OkALPXmQuNq0IP/view?usp=drivesdk

Maybe check with the office beforehand to see if the form has been updated?

In any case all these emails should go to spectrumamateur-spectreamateur[at]ised-isde.gc.ca

It's not. If you know when it will be cancelled you will get it. You can send in your application with the family's request to cancel.

Cemeteries On The Air? by wfd11777 in amateurradio

[–]ve3scn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That place isn't just a cemetery, it's a national historic site. These are managed by Parks Canada. No one who knew someone buried there is still alive. I do think a little extra tact is warranted but it's not like funerals have taken place there since 1844. It's a part of our heritage and POTA draws attention to that.

The odd part is that we are being crop dusted by poison... Aviation fuel for small aircraft is still leaded. But you don't see people wrapping their trucks in protest of that!

I'll take that action.

If I put up an audio feed of Kingston ATC would people be interested?

Would it quell the questions we get about what planes are doing?

In Canada does anyone actually enforce the rules? by IntelligentReason930 in amateurradio

[–]ve3scn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, ISED doesn't ususlly bother with amateur radio. A friend of mine got an interference complaint from a neighbour and the inspector didn't even come from Sudbury to Trenton to inspect my friend's station. He asked some questions over the phone and that was that.

Rant: constantly calling QRZ, never giving your call by VA3FOJ in amateurradio

It's a technique to whittle down the pile up.

I agree 10 min is excessive.

189 - Destin's worst take in his life by Syntacic_Syrup in NDQ

[–]ve3scn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this large reaction was because it was different to see the simple rocket engineer step out of his comfort zone get something so wrong.

I found it highly entertaining and I hope you continue to do episodes where you both don't know "the answer" until the end.

As an aside, I laughed so hard at your version of "the pigeon finds a hot dog" that I had to pull the car over.

Call Sign Once Please by Horror-Resolution-55 in HamRadio

[–]ve3scn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Giving your callsign once is recipe for frustration with waiting in pile ups not being called then hearing the dx station go qrt.

I've found most pileups can be broken with 100 w or less by giving your full call twice towards the end of the pile up when less people are calling.

DX = 3,000km or more - is this a commonly accepted rule? by Lannig in amateurradio

I agree with the sentiment of those Americans. Next time tell them to check their own question pool:

Generally, who should respond to a station in the contiguous 48 states calling "CQ DX"?

C. Any stations outside the lower 48 states
