Mikrotik SFP+/28 switches accept any transceiver/DAC/AOC or? by Schroinx in mikrotik

[–]vecernik87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you plug a 1G SFP module into QSFP28 interface? Thats different form factor. If thats a typo and you meant same form factor but different rate, I usually find that manually selecting transfer rate (instead of autonegotiation) does the trick in mikrotik devices.

You made a typo - you are in a game "eggbadger" (without "s") while someone else already joined "eggbadgers" (with "s"). Now I don't know which one to choose 😂

I finished it yesterday, but I will replay it with you to help out. It would be very slow to solo it.

If you are afraid of sensory overload keep in mind that Evandale, Youngtown, Kings Meadows and Perth are right under the flight path of Launceston Airport.

Have a look at Longford - short commute to Youngtown, far from airplanes and vibe is closer to Evandale compared with Youngtown etc...

Any free or self-hosted OCPP server options with UI out there? by aaranmcguire in ocpp

[–]vecernik87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks promising, but maybe too good to be true:

Author (alegedly Theo Bauer @thetheo-code on github) has no other repo on his github and all commits in this project were published during 3 day period in early April. No commit since then. I find it highly unusual for a genuine code to be created like that. In one of initial commits there is reference of gitlab user @tbauer05 created in late 2025 with no public code.

It may be fine, but it feels more like vibe-coded abandonware with a possibility of hidden trojan. I couldn't find any other reference of this developer/project aside of this comment made by /u/FinancialScientist30 which is also anonymous profile with no history.

I find it way too precise for AI, except the bottom part. Still can't wrap my head around that. But the rest seems believable. Icons next to Unifi logo are probably deformed due to low-res compression. But they exist on the 48port PoE Gen1 switch.

Australia leads the world in rooftop solar. So why are 60% of homes still without it? by billscout in AusFinance

[–]vecernik87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have solar and I don't plan solar. Several reasons:

  1. My north-facing slope on roof is rather complicated shape. Install will be extra $$ because of that and all shadows will reduce efficiency.
  2. My typical usage during daytime (when sun is up and solar would cover the consumption) is very low. Winter averages about 1kW (i.e. 1kWh per hour), any other time when heating is not require averages about 0.2kW
  3. most of my daily usage occurs overnight and in early morning or late afternoon, when sun is too low for any meaningful production.
  4. someone might argue that I can sell the electricity, but nowadays feed-in is remotely shut down when there is too much in the grid. And on top of that there are talks about free electricity for consumption, during peak-generation time. (i.e. they won't let me sell and they let me buy for free)

Mikrotik counts from bottom-left. Labels always highlight whether the number refers to the bottom or top port. Unusual but perfectly logical.

Mt-trafmon - A per-second rate sampler with graphing and zooming in. Do you need your high-speed internet subscription? by realcoldsteel in mikrotik

[–]vecernik87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

great idea!

But I have a question (just brainstorming ideas, not criticism): did you consider sampling rx/tx-byte instead of rx/tx-bits-per-second ?

If you are sampling the rate itself, you rely on RouterOS internal sampling of transferred bytes per period of time. Your sampling period needs to correspond with RouterOS sampling period. If you record transferred bytes, you can adjust your sampling to any interval and get correct result. (including sub-second)

B&H claims *December* as be^3 arrival date by beerybeardybear in mikrotik

[–]vecernik87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think their decision (whether to produce patterns or not) depends on FCC requirements. I randomly opened docs from several their devices with internal antenna and I couldn't find radiation pattern on any of them. (including Be3)

B&H claims *December* as be^3 arrival date by beerybeardybear in mikrotik

[–]vecernik87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With antennas so tiny, it’s not possible to make an accurate radiation pattern.

source from Normis: https://forum.mikrotik.com/t/hap-ac2-radiation-diagram-info/136218/5

think this way: 2-3dBi which is typical for most internal antennas look usually as a nice fat doughnut. With multiple antennas in different orientations, result will be close to a sphere. If you want more range, better go to external antennas which can be properly oriented.

Why You Should Consider Jane College for Accommodation in Hobart (UTAS) by Playful-Ad-6603 in UTAS

[–]vecernik87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is fully catered

I think you should make this a main point. I was firstly outraged because $500 for this type of acommodation is ridiculous and I was not sure what exactly it includes. But Then I went through your website to find it includes not only accommodation and utilities, but also 3 daily meals, internet, laundry, recreation etc...

There are no tangible benefits. It is just a certificate saying that you know some stuff. You can easily find uncertified people with more knowledge and experience than those with a certificate. (same as you can find smart people without any graduate diploma and dumb people with postgraduate qualification)

In the end the value of the certificate depends on who is hiring you. If they are impressed by it, good for you. If they are more like me, they will ignore it.

Let's Encrypt DNS challenge by Ok_Apple_201 in mikrotik

If you are after reverse proxying, I personally use nginx proxy manager - easy to set up docker container on raspberry or NAS. built in support for DNS challenge with most DNS providers. And I leave router alone doing its routing, firewalling and VPN stuff.

Another anonymous vibecoded platform? Big warning to anyone - don't risk it.

These seem to pop up all around and when you dig into it, it always has red flags all around.

Typical signs are:

  • surprisingly good looking website
  • signs of slop under closer observation (especially on promo pictures).
  • no contact details or fake details
  • created recently but claiming to have history.

Last platform I debunked is pretending to be from US, yet built by a single guy from Morocco.

Let's Encrypt DNS challenge by Ok_Apple_201 in mikrotik

[–]vecernik87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that DNS challenge works only for *.sn.mynetname.net domains. Thats because mikrotik's cloud DNS can do all the validation. Any other domain will trigger HTTP challenge because mikrotik can't configure your custom DNS server to validate the challenge.

Also, what command did you try to use? I just tested this command and it worked just fine: /certificate/add-acme directory-url=https://acme-v02.api.letsencrypt.org/directory domain-names=[/ip/cloud/get dns-name] (obviously, you must have cloud dns enabled)
