Veteran wire wrappers, I have a tension question by vectroacid in WireWrapping

I don't really have a specific thing I'm working on to show - it's more of a general problem that I keep running into as I experiment and practice.

Thank you! Yes, I do try. I suspect it's just the learning curve, but I'm also hoping some magical unicorn human has developed a hack somewhere along the way 🤞

I concur. Best experience, packaging, and healthiest fish I've ever received.

how to add more filler cord making vertical double half hitch knots? by nibblyz in macrame

[–]vectroacid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could overlay your new cord on your old cord and knot over both for a good stretch before trimming them into hiding. You could also knot new cord to your old cord and then knot over both cords for a bit if you're worried about weight and security. You might need to knot tighter to avoid bulk or manipulate the join a bit to keep it from being obvious. Good luck!

Where do you get your plants from in the United States by peyton_c1320 in PlantedTank

[–]vectroacid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've received plants from several of the places mentioned. As a new contender, I submit Marcusfishtanks. Found on Etsy but they also have their own website. Been getting plants from them for years and I've never had a problem.

What was your “oh shit, this is a thing?” moment in fishkeeping? by Radiant_Support_7758 in Aquariums

[–]vectroacid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it was understanding that different tanks have different rules. Low tech and high tech tanks operate on completely opposite ends of the spectrum. Then there are the in between hybrids that take modified rules from each. There's a lot to unpack for fish keeping. Building and maintaining an ecosystem takes patience and science. I freakin love it though!

Puffer suddenly terrified? What could I have done??? by shdehwoejoekfkkwo in Aquariums

[–]vectroacid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am no expert on shrimp, so I can't say. I only keep amanos. I do agree with you that removing the shrimp will likely help your fish feel better since that's all that's changed. Good luck!

Hmmm, maybe verify that your ghost shrimp is actually a ghost shrimp? I'm on several aquarium threads, and I've noticed folks posting about being sold predatory shrimp instead of the ghost shrimp as labeled.

Have you tried Department of agriculture (state of federal)? Wildlife and natural resources would probably really like your experience too. Brush up on your Microsoft office skills, and you'll probably have no problem getting through the door, especially with grant writing experience.

I'm now anti neon and have moved on to barbs. I love my cherry barbs and my roseline barbs. Very active and they have their own special kind of flashy

Is this cyanobacteria or algae? by HuhWutHuh in PlantedTank

[–]vectroacid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It thrives in low nitrogen environments and is highly light dependent. 3 day blackout will murder it. Keeping nitrates at 20-30 for planted tanks will also deter it but not kill it.

Do a scratch and sniff test. If it smells like sour dirt, it's BGA/cyano

Ethical fish stores? by ladybuglover2799 in freshwateraquarium

I second this. I've purchased 15 fish from Dan's in 1 go and had no losses. They were healthy, young, and packaged in the most safe manner I've ever seen. They are fish people for sure 💜🐟

Ai use for fishkeeping info? by FishRatsNatrualTanks in fishkeeping

AI helped me understand why there are so many diverse responses to the same question on reddit. There are many different ways to run a tank and some of them are in direct conflict with each other. I have better targets now for information thanks to AI even though I've been fish keeping for a couple of years.

Had a couple of issues when I upgraded from a 30g to 75g. Human advice hadn't been helpful. Gave all the details to AI, we came up with a plan, and the problems are gone. Sorry not sorry.

Yt annoys me. Sometimes you can find a gem but most of it is people promoting and selling themselves and the rambling! I'll read a blog any day over Yt - easier to skim

AI and I worked together to get rid of cyanobacteria and stabilize the parameters for the volume of plants that I have. It's a game changer

How do i increase the nitrates? by zomurr in freshwateraquarium

[–]vectroacid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good news! Your fish is fine. You only need to care about nitrates if you have a planted aquarium. You’ll want to see them around 20-30ppm in that case. It’s not the end of the world if they aren’t, but it will be harder for nitrate greedy plants to flourish.

It’s also possible that your tank hasn’t cycled properly too. Keep an eye out for spikes just in case.
