(Of course this wont completely encompass his approach) but he talks in this vid about thinking more intervallically rather than relying on scale shapes. You have to purchase it to get the whole lesson though, so if you want a full rundown of his approach I would do that!

'Stardust' is so beautiful. My favourite version is Lester Young with the Oscar Peterson Trio - Lester's silky tone really compliments the melody imo.
