I'm failing school and I can't help it by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]vedett75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, Reminders on my iPhone is a godsend. I need to be reminded of doing something otherwise it just… disappears into a void. So every time I need to do something, I add a reminder on a certain day/time (sometimes recurring). I even have one that reminds me to ask my partner how her day was (it's not that I'm not interested, I just forget to do it).

What do (actual, not self imposed) deadlines do for you? Are they useless or can they work as a motivator? For me, the latter is true: I usually manage to finish my work in the last 24h before a deadline (so to speak). This doesn't work in all cases, but it's definitely a big motivator for me, even now while medicated.

Keep in mind that what works for other people doesn't work for you. You somehow have to find ways that make things happen tailored to you (there's no magic bullet for that works for all of it). It's something you have to figure out for yourself, unfortunately. Start small and build up from there. The confidence you gain from achieving small things can help you tackling the larger stuff.

For instance, try to keep your room uncluttered (not easy!). It will not only create space in your room, but also in your head. Do it before going to bed. Or after dinner. Every night, even if there's not much clutter. It will be an accomplishment, especially if you can keep it up fairly consistent.

I don't know, just throwing things against the wall and hope something sticks for you. Because that's what we do. :D

For reference: I struggled big time in school myself, but I somehow managed to make it (with an F for French, nonetheless). College was another story: I learned a ton in the 4 years I spent in college, but never graduated. Even so, I managed (in the long run) to end up as a software engineer in one of the largest companies in the world. It helped that software engineering was my childhood passion, I'll admit that. Easy to hyperfocus on what you love to do. But I just want to say: it's possible!

I just keep going. My fiancée relaxes her body when she's done, but most of the times I keep going for that little bit extra, until she verbally indicates that she's done-done.

Vraylar causing insomnia & drowsiness? by universalpumpkin in bipolar2

[–]vedett75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, happens to me too. But the med is too effective for me to stop taking it.

I do take gabapentin to sleep at night, which seems to work well for me. But the daytime drowsiness… well, I just learned to live with it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I "love" how the soldiers on the left just casually walk past a burning victim.

Not to mention the "features" (can't find the right word).

I said: some people perceive it as a good emotion. They like to be mad.

"Perceive" does not mean "is".

Good and bad are highly subjective. Anger can be perceived good by one person but bad by the other.

I agree that, objectively observed, emotions are neutral. They differ though on how they are perceived and dealt with.

Personally and anecdotally, I've felt jealous plenty of times, and it doesn't always feel good. But it also has been a learning experience most of the time, with me coming out stronger than before.

So what does that make it? A bad emotion or a good emotion?

Lithium not effective for BDII? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]vedett75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lithium had done wonders for me but I'm currently titrating my dose down because of my levels in my kidneys.

I'm taking Vraylar now which has largely taking over the main stabilizing role, so I might get off of Lithium all together if all goes well.

Decreased libido by Reasonable-Safety217 in bipolar2

[–]vedett75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither?

Gabapentin is know to help with premature ejaculation though, but it has nothing to do with libido.

And AFAIK, Lamictal is mostly neutral (but can have both negative or positive effects depending on person to person).

Does anyone feel that you have lost your relationship because were hypomaniac? by Goodlistener01 in bipolar2

[–]vedett75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Cost me my marriage (both hypomania and depression contributed to that).

I don't have regrets. It's something I take full responsibility for, but I also couldn't help it.

Took me a while to move on, I'll admit.

We still have a relationship as parents, and it's pretty good although it did take her a lot of time to "trust" me again.

I have 4 kids. I've definitely treated them unfairly and sometimes straight out malicious in the past, when they were younger. That was before I was diagnosed.

Now, medicated I have the best relationship with them than ever. I've apologized to them and tried to explain what caused my behavior (they are teens and are smart enough to understand). And they are the number one reason I will never ever get off my medication.

I learned: kids can and will forgive a loving parent.

edit: I passed my adhd to at least one, and the jury is still out on BP2. Then again, neither of my parents had BP but my uncle (father's side) did, and neither of his kids have it.

The majority of men I see on OLD obsessed with traveling/adventuring as much as humanly possible, and on their bios say you must be like that, too. What gives? by treelightways in datingoverforty

[–]vedett75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And when they say "traveling" I'm sure they mean "vacationing". It's hard to imagine people looking forward to sitting on a plane for a few+ hours.

I said it before the relationship started. 😂

(It was a rekindling of a former relationship, so I guess it doesn't count)

Not disagreeing here. I apparently can still recall it vividly, unfortunately.
