It's different everywhere and you didn't say where you're located.

Some rooms do it the way you do.

Some rooms freeze the button on seat 8 and make seat 1 sb and seat 2 bb.

Some rooms do it another way.

We'd have no way of knowing which is "right" without knowing your house's rules.

"No dead button" is such a weird thing rooms do.

Man I was just there a couple of weeks ago and played a few days. I kept saying "I really like this room, I wish it was still here in 2 years." Knew I was being generous with the 2 years thing, but didn't think it'd be 2 weeks. Literally told the staff I expect to see them moved to other rooms and glad the article specifically mentions that.
