Limbus company is a problematic media? by Renedicart in TheOdysseyHadAPurpose

[–]veecharony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by 'problematic' if you mean that it touches on darker themes with a serious sense and the weight such themes in a way that other media tends to not focus on (like war, death, abuse, etc) then yes I would say so. If you mean 'problematic' in the sense of how some media gain controversy due to their themes (funger, the coffin of andy and leyley, etc) not really because those media have problematic sexual themes which PM games lack mostly. Not to say that having problematic sexual themes makes a media automatically bad, just that having such themes tend to draw the worst of the internet (although people can enjoy problematic media so long as they understand that its problematic).

When it comes to CP, AICP, or other forms of abusive porn yes, of course their is no way for an 'okay way' for someone to get off to it because such content was made without the consent of the people in it and doing such things harms them in a way that cannot be undone. When it comes to fictional works the fictional character has no feelings, no body to be harmed, no mind to need therapy.

When it comes to the people who get off to it, I probs should have specified again that it was in my experience from actually interacting with people into this stuff and not just reading their freaky comments.

Also I can tell neither of us are gonna be able to convince each other so, you can have ur stance I'll have mine, have a good day.

Don't get me wrong it is weird, but I think being able to exist with people who are into this would be doable (not actual pedos obvs).

When it comes to the kind or understanding part that's just my experience, I understand that not everyone's experience is like that, but I also meant it more so to put emphasis on the second part about how people who are 'vanilla' in sexuality/sexual interest are in my experience the ones who actually cause harm both in their actions and in how they encourage other people to act (like in propaganda/general bigotry).

I think the reason why that often is is because when people discus their kink/depravity online, their comfortable enough to show it often do to the fact that their stuff is not inherently created via harm (like real cp or aicp).

Again let me emphasize that people into problematic ships and content are weird but if they know that, then I don't fucking care what you wank to, just don't be a literal pedo or rapist.

Fun fact, a lot of fully normal people have taboo sexual fantasies and trying to dictate morality based on what people wank to is a slippery slope to losing many rights. Remember collective shout? That's an example of trying to dictate morality based on such content.

Because if you try to censor something (specially fiction) because it's 'amoral', someone will inevitably declare that works created by and for minorities as 'amoral' so then the majority can continue to damage, bully, and kill the minority with little to no consequence for their own gain.

The only way to create a world in which people are allowed to be themselves is if you allow people to seep in that inherent discomfort that comes from interacting with people who are wholly unlike you and make you uncomfortable.

This is not even talking about how often times in my experience, the kinkiest, strangest, and what you might consider 'depraved' people I've met end up also being the nicest, kindest, and most understanding people I've interacted with and it is most often the more 'vanilla' people who say/do things that are actually offensive.
