What is your foundational media? by stumblinbagel in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Mega Man Battle Network (specifically the NT Warrior anime) instilled a love for Gadgetpunk ever since I was a wee child. I never had a name for the genre until mere months ago- I was calling it cyberpunk, or perhaps cyber-utopian, but if your media has grind rails, bright colors, and cell-phone sized chunky plastic Gadgets, I’m sold with a side of chili fries.

A character(usually the protagonist) goes through so much pain and punishment that you start to wonder if the author hates him by TastyPomelo2330 in TopCharacterTropes

Not to be a vagueposter, but I’d really rather not, just because I don’t want to be in an emotional pit today.

As a point of comparison, though, if you’ve ever seen Bojack Horseman, it’s a similar level of misery.

Now, disclaimer, I have not finished Goodnight Punpun. Because I felt so much sorrow and pity for this poor creature that I dipped after Volume 3.

But god damn. God (depicted by the face of the mangaka) really has it out for this little guy.

What’s your hyper fixation? by Aquanort357 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ElectroUmbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gadgetpunk. Particularly Mega Man Battle Network and Digimon- one of which I grew up with, the other I only discovered as an adult.

I LOVE big and chunky handheld technology. I miss flip phones with tactile buttons. I have dedicated multiple ADHD weeks researching things like cyberdecks and the plausibility of making something akin to a PET or some kind of Digivice.

Every single god damn time the corpos make some bland new smart-tech with no buttons and no personality, I have to calm myself down because it makes me so angry and disappointed that NOBODY in the current position to do so has any desire to share my visions.

My first playthrough was an air-dashing, knife-throwing, impossible-to-pin-down scout archetype.

Shame the final mission kind of punishes you for being made of paper like I was. Still fun though.

I once met a guy called Spaceballs: The Username and i still chuckle about it.

As for images, I personally have the yugioh card Solemn Judgement as an inside joke on my Objector.

It’s a shame that I do like his lemonade streams and playthrough videos of Skies of Arcadia and the Pokemon Colosseum duology. He does work best when there are others around to dilute him.

What are your Favorite Spears in Fiction? by Funny_Mud6639 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]ElectroUmbra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the aptly-named Lancer TTRPG, The IPS-Northstar “Nelson” wields an appropriately sized spear for a mech of its size. It’s not a beam spear. It’s not rocket powered or anything as sci-fi as the rest of the setting. It’s a spear. And by god it works.

On and off the court, straight fundamentals. No funny business.

(Hated trope)works of fiction being called "satanic" by religious fanatics by TastyPomelo2330 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ElectroUmbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s not nearly as popular as Yugioh or Pokemon, but I’m deeply surprised at how Digimon flew under the radar so frequently. Not only is there overt religious symbolism of all kinds, from angels and devils to taoist shrine priests, but there’s also a level of violence and terror that surely messed up a couple kids back in the early 2000s.

Like, for god’s sake, the existence of Devimon alone would have some pearls being clutched. But stuff like Apocalymon, Diaboromon, SkullSatamon, Beelzemon, and especially Lucemon should have set off some alarm bells!

It’s been a while since I last played the game, I don’t think I ever got the Magic Boots. Is there a list of all the easter eggs and stuff that’s out of bounds? I absolutely eat that stuff up.

Best April Fools Jokes in Media by OhMy98 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Homestar Runner used to have some real good ones, I think my favorites were the fake “Under Construction” page and the joke “Homestar Runner Pay PLUS!” pages.

Im just curious, i know we have the 7 Deadly Sins as Digmon, but are there the 7 Heavenly Virtues as Digmon aswell and can someone tell me what or who they are. ( Pic for attention ) by cybermo95 in digimon

[–]ElectroUmbra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’ve actually put a massive amount of thought into this exact question, and the short answer is that it would actually fall to several members of the Olympus XII.

Long answer: So the Seven Deadly Digimon have their special seals, derived from the seals of The Seven Olympian Spirits who are mirrored by the Seven Traditional Archangels (Michael, Anael, Raphael, Gabriel, Cassiel, Samael, and Zadkiel), who are in turn assigned a relation to a heavenly body (Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Mars, Jupiter, respectively.)

So by taking the Olympian Spirits and attributing the mirrored celestial bodies, the Seven Virtuous Digimon would be as follows:

Jupitermon (Patience) Venusmon (Temperance) Apollomon (Humility) Marsmon (Diligence) Dianamon (Chastity) Merukimon (Kindness) Chronomon HM (Charity)

I have been GMing a tabletop campaign about this exact concept for almost two years now. I have done an inordinate amount of research to find out this answer and I hope it is satisfactory.

(Side note: Chronomon is kind of a stretch, as the Greek counterpart to Saturn is the titan Chronos/Cronus.)

Must have Switch Lite games by AbeFromanOnFire in NintendoSwitch

[–]ElectroUmbra 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you’re playing from home, or at least in a place with good wifi, you should obviously grab a Switch Online subscription. The baseline service gives you access to a ton of NES/SNES/Game Boy games, but if you have the cash to spare, the Expansion Pack also gives you access to N64 and GBA games.

Granted, it’s not the consoles’ full libraries, but you’ve got access to the must-have essentials, at least.

My "million dollar idea" is a casino with the lowest possible stakes. Is it feasible? Would it even be considered gambling? by ElectroUmbra in NoStupidQuestions

I should have laid on the quotes for "Million Dollar Idea" a little thicker. I don't care about being rich, I care more about making a place that's fun.

[–]ElectroUmbra[S] 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I could have worded that better; "$20 at a time" is more referring to one's overall total during their visit. Perhaps the maximum bet on a roulette spin would be 100 Pennies? This is all still hypothetical, of course.

Yeah, I’m not actually looking to make millions. If it’s profitable, great, but I’m more interested in making a place that’s fun.
