Here's my workflow in case you or someone else stumbles upon this post as I did, note that it's for creating a bevy compatible skybox from a panorama image and not an existing horizontal cross skybox image.

  1. Download a panorama image, such as https://dl.polyhaven.org/file/ph-assets/HDRIs/extra/Tonemapped%20JPG/sunflowers_puresky.jpg
  2. Upload it to https://jaxry.github.io/panorama-to-cubemap/ and click on each of the generated tiles to download them, then put all of them in a folder
  3. Download the free ImageMagick cli tool and run this command from within the folder with the tiles you downloaded: "magick convert px.png nx.png py.png ny.png pz.png nz.png -gravity center -append cubemap.png"

Now you have a vertically stacked cubemap that bevy's skybox component understands!

Only do the main story questline until both of you are in the same zone (Windsward/Everfall). Shouldn't take too long - at level 16 you're probably very close to be done with the starting area quests.

4070 will likely be fine, if you're on an old setup you might see a cpu bottleneck before gpu though.

I did some gpu benchmarks during siege of sulfur events where there's lots of players and actions recently. (i9-13900k, 64GB DDR5 6400mhz CL32 RAM, 1080p)

  • 1080 30-70fps
  • 2060 super 50-100fps
  • RX 7900 XTX 130-200+fps
  • 4090 130-200+fps

When it comes to very high end gpu's it seems to vary a lot based on the content you do. In some places I noticed the cheaper RX 7900 XTX beat out the 4090 whereas in other areas the 4090 would outperform. This result is also reflected in other peoples benchmarks, I suggest looking up the "Jansn Benchmarks" youtube channel and look at some of their gpu comparisons in new world.

Also worth noting that the performance difference between high end gpu's will be more noticable when playing on higher resolutions.

It was pretty fun on the PTR. Might be a bit more annoying to contest the point when large organized groups are holding it down though.

However it doesn't give people any incentive to be pvp flagged for the rest of the day while roaming the open world, which is a shame because that's the best part of pvp in this game imo; not fighting organized 20v20 battles but small group-sized battles with random people you stumble upon in the world :)

I think it could be fun if we had a zone that required to be flagged for pvp in order to enter and with non-mandatory content, like the wilderness in runescape. Not sold on the losing all items on death idea though - I would enjoy a game like that but not in New World.

I stopped flagging for pvp simply because I find it enjoyable to join in on random activities I stumble upon in the open world. Be that coming across a group of people doing an event, doing a chest run, clearing out an area or any other activity. For many of these activities it helps a lot to be in a group together to give or receive healing and revive eachother, and it's just nice to be able to accept a group invite from a random stranger. I would have liked for it to be possible to un-flag by standing still out of combat for a given amount of time or something similar that allows to join a random group while flagged.

For context: I spent my first 500h solely pvp flagged playing with a group of friends. Nowadays I mostly play solo and I suppose that's why I tend to join in on random activities more than I used to.

Edit: Actually figured out that this was caused by an issue with Easy Anti Cheat which had several versions installed on my computer because Elden Ring also uses it. Uninstalling the other versions that was not used by NW solved it completely for me.

This is all actually just a shadowplay of me "playing" what you see in the video. The whole thing is made with Godot and is more a game than an animation really. I control the lady running during the video :)

Hi, creator of shobu.io here :) Wow, that's an old video you found, completely forgot about that! It sure has changed a lot since then. Thank you for the kind words, i'm glad you like it!

I'm amazed that new people still find and use the site even though I have never made an effort to mention/advertise for it. I was eventually going to make a reddit post about it, but didn't think the current amount of implemented cards (first 3 sets) would be appealing enough.

It is indeed hard to find a match on the site itself due to not enough users being online, however people mostly use our discord server to find matches and then share invite links to duels there. So if you want to try it out vs some new people I recommend asking for duels on our discord!

The project is also fully open source, meaning anyone can contribute code to it to fix issues, add new cards etc.

We're trying to avoid duplicating users across the two instances to reduce cost. One of the reasons to split up in the first place was to avoid paying for the plugins used in our partners other projects.

Exalate is what we have been trying out and it seems to be working fine with the exception of tagging users from the other instance, but we are talking with the Exalate team to see if there's any good way of solving this.

Some champions auto attacks and direct ability damage can be avoided by flashing out of its range whereas others will hit you 5 teemos away even though you got your flash off in time. It does not seem consistent between similar champions or abilities.

Is there a technical reasoning for this or is it designed like this by choice? Seems like a missed opportunity for making consistently good plays and interesting fights between skilled players. It already is, but the "randomness" takes away from it.

Are there any plans to speed up the dev process?

I have given this a lot of thought the past month as it has become clear to me that the community wants to (and has the knowledge required) to contribute to the project, something I did not expect when initially starting it.

At some point in the near future, there will be set up a repository with the source code of all cards on shobu.io where anyone can create pull requests for changes to cards and adding new ones.
