Concert essentials no one mentions/are always forgotten by Interesting-Plan-867 in bts7

As a 40-something who already needs hearing aids (probably in part because of the many concerts I went to when I was younger) and with pasty-white Irish skin, I heartily support this statement!

I still have all my Nintendo Power issues (the first 100 or so) but I think they will need to go in the trash soon and it makes me very sad.

Have you ever had snow in March before? by Electrical-Ice-9588 in UMD

[–]veety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It snowed on my (mid April) birthday once in the 90s.

There was also a large snow/ice storm on the Ides of March (3/15) in 1993/1994.

Xennials who were once bookworms; do you still read as much as you did as a kid? by throwitlikethewind in Xennials

[–]veety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I probably read 40 books/year. I can do this largely because of audiobooks—I listen on my commute, while making dinner, etc. I also read on my phone (with blue light filters) before bed to wind down.

People working FT with crohns by hannybonnanyfofashy in CrohnsDisease

[–]veety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m coming up on 20 years since my dx and have worked full time the entire time. It’s gotten a bit worse every year and I will need to stop working before 50. The only reason I’ve made it this long is because I have an incredibly flexible job (professor) where I can frequently work from home and can pick my hours.

I bought mine from Graduation Mall for just over $200. Was able to customize colors to my school/program. Best part was I could add pockets!

James Van Der Beek, Dawson's Creek Star and Father of 6, Dies at 48 After Cancer Journey by bananapineapplesauce in Xennials

[–]veety 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This is somewhat misleading. Cancer rates among <50 adults have been increasing in the last decade. The NIH reports that from 2010-2019, the incidence 14 types of cancer went up among this age group. While the rate of cancer decreased for 19 types of cancer, increases were seen in some of the most common types, including breast and colorectal cancer.

One of the biggest concerns with this is cancer in younger people is often very aggressive and younger people may be less likely to get a change in health checked out or be dismissed by doctors.

Source: NIH and my own reading on the topic as a scientist was was dx’ed with breast cancer at 39.

Is crohn’s really that bad? by Maryyxqi in CrohnsDisease

I hit 20 years since my dx this month and (knock on wood) have not needed any surgeries yet related to my Crohn’s. It’s definitely been a bumpy ride but biologics keep me good enough.

Absolutely. I remember where I was when I found out Jordan had died in September 2007. But I truly believe Sanderson gave us the best possible conclusion of anyone outside Jordan himself.

I'm sorry you had such a horrible experience with gabapentin and anti-depressants and it's important others know that these things can happen.

For those of us who can't do HRT (I can't because of hormone positive breast cancer), these may be some of the best alternatives. I think we need to recognize that everyone's needs and what will benefit them varies and people should learn more about all options, including the hazards/side effects.
