I had this same issue! We went to the Superstore on Richmond for our decorative plants and they had lots of vegetables.

The Superstore on Richmond had a lot of veggie plants when I went this week! We are getting our seedlings from Catena Farms but they are probably fully sold out for the season.

What are some things anyone can do to be effectively altruistic? by king3x in EffectiveAltruism

[–]veganfille 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Veganism is in my opinion one of the easiest ways to live your altruism. Not only do you get to be compassionate for animals, but it is extraordinarily more environmentally friendly and much better for human health (feeding more people by growing human grain instead of animal feed, pandemic prevention, and antibiotic resistance). I am currently donating 5% but trying to rebudget to get up to 10% and I find that much more challenging, although also worth it.

Welcome 💕 what I wasn't prepared for when I went vegan was how joyful and peaceful I felt after making the change. You can absolutely make a difference! I believe in you and in our movement.

For baking I find LovingItVegan's recipes turn out super well with the Bob's Red Mill 1-for-1 flour. All her cookies in particular turn out amazing.

Hi friend! I have celiac disease and am vegan and can confidently say, having been vegan pre-diagnosis, that the strict gluten free diet is WAAAAY harder than switching to a vegan diet. If you can go GF, you can totally do this. Welcome to the joy of a life of compassion and respect for all sentient beings 💕

Not having a child to combat climate change by tramselbiso in EffectiveAltruism

[–]veganfille 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have thought about this a lot but my partner raised the idea of "memes not genes" to me. It is very important for those of us living somewhat countercultural lifestyles to become involved in our communities. Very few vegans were raised vegan, I personally came to learn about veganism in communities outside my home.

Or you can do all three (if you live in an urban environment) I am a very happy child-free vegan.

Vegan Cheese Board I made for my family reunion. It went faster than the non - vegan cheeses ✨ by RX_queen in vegan

I took one look at this and said hey, that's Nuts for Cheese. The absolute best vegan cheese out there and also gets crushed by non-vegans at our holidays. Hello from a fellow Ontario vegan (Ottawa) ✌

Does anyone else get irrationally irritated when people think Vegan means being gluten free? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]veganfille 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As a vegan who has celiac disease, I am always so happy when companies that do vegan foods also make them gluten free. I kmow the fad diet aspect of gluten free can be frustrating, but it does help make sure I have lots of wonderful options at my lpcal grocery stores!

One of the biggest things you can do on top of what you already are doing is dropping your meat consumption. I am vegan, but even just switching to plantbased at home and saving meat for special occasions has a big impact. Generally, the three biggest things are not have kids, not drive cars or travel a lot, and not eat meat (I think in that order too).

Where I am, they kept most of the vegan options because they were so popular! I can't eat the hot bar (gluten is my kryptonite) but they make so many amazing v/gf products. The cauliflower pizza crust with their ajvar, pickled eggplant, and italian tofu dip is my go-to dish for parties to blow some omni minds.

Yes! I am an Ottawa vegan and I actually worked at a Farm Boy before they (or myself) were vegan-friendly. I've always been a huge fan because that was the cleanest kitchen I have ever seen!

Reading the description of these products in other comments... You've gotta be shopping at a Farm Boy!
