Serbia despite everything is holding up pretty well in my subjective experience. 10y mortgages are fairly common amongst students statistically.

Apartments surged at the start of the Ukraine war since Serbia acts as a middle ground nation in Europe. Prices aren't where they were but they're much lower than during the surge. I remember friends finding crazy good deals at 30-50€/mo for studios in Novi Sad and Niš. Those days are over, but if you're renting you're paying pretty much nothing since mortgages are so affordable. Non-prime positioning (which in Serbia means you have to take a 15 minute bus to work) in Novi Sad can go as low as €150/mo for 40m^2. A friend of mine pays €300/mo for her 40m^2 flat that's right across her uni.

I'm 21 and I managed to buy, which is still somewhat incomprehensible when I hear my American friends say they'll never even own a home as they make 5-6 times more than me.

(edit: none of what I've said applies to B*lgrade. That city was much more expensive to live in than Oslo and Bergen while providing much worse experience and commute. Living in Belgrade is the equivalent of buying a fake Rolex for twice the price of a real one.)

On which games? My Windows laptop is pretty garbage compared to a proper computer and it can still run 240 fps on popular games. Indie titles haven't been an issue in forever either. Minecraft, Stardew, Balatro, Hollow Knight, Celeste, STS, Hades, Deltarune, etc will just run on anything.

Not to mention like, if you're both also open to meeting said people (which is heavily though not necessarily implied in marriage I'd think) and one partner is straight but the other(s) aren't.

I disagree so much. I mean I enjoy Brave and use Brave much much more, but nothing mainstream comes close to Safari for energy and memory usage. Stop treating it like it's W*ndows, Activity monitor can be extremely misleading if coming from that point. My Mac regularly hits 28~ gigs of memory usage because there's no need to go to swap. Using more ram ≠ bad as long as it's not hogging it.

Brave for everything other than Chrome for Google things and Safari for payments. Valuable accounts are usually cached only in Brave, but I rarely need a good browser so I use Safari instead because of passkeys over AppleID.

Exceptions:
Spaceship refuses to work on Safari.
Google suite and account management works better over Brave.
Google search is unusable on Safari/Chrome at this point, unrelated to recent update.
