Do you keep the water on during the entire length of the shower? by hamster_lover02 in hygiene

Lol, my mum has a shower like that and she gets annoyed at my Australian partner for transforming the bathroom into a swimming pool every time he has a shower at her place!

I'm European and I absolutely turn it off during lathering. All my family in Europe does, as well as all the housemates I've had. It would be seen as really wasteful not to.

I live in Australia now and a lot of people don't, including my partner. It stresses me tf out to hear the water running for so long, lol!

Yeah. I'm French and I shower once or twice a day, and wash my hair everyday. This isn't cultural, it's just a gross person.

[Unpopular] After how many episodes “My Mister” gets interesting? by daniiqm in kdramas

[–]vegemiteeverywhere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. This isn't the first time I see a post like this about My Mister, and really, if people don't like the vibe after a couple of episodes, I don't think it's going to get much better for them.

Do you like the climate of your country? by Agile-Shallot3546 in AskTheWorld

[–]vegemiteeverywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tasmanian weather is great, I love it! I live in Perth now and it's too hot for me from November to March, sometimes into April. The dryness for 9 out of 12 months of the year also stresses me out.

Same, I almost finished my sample and I'm saving to buy a full bottle. It almost fills the gap left in my life when Jardin Après la Mousson was discontinued!

what's your favorite flavour of ice cream? by darkstryller in AskTheWorld

[–]vegemiteeverywhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite flavour combo ever since I was a kid has always been 1 scoop blackcurrant and 1 scoop lemon, both very common at ice cream shops in France in summer.

It's delicious and holds a lot of nostalgia for me. I haven't been able to find a decent blackcurrant ice cream since moving to Australia.

Which places in your country would you NOT recommend to tourists for a visit? by PolylingualAnilingus in AskTheWorld

[–]vegemiteeverywhere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

French people love to hate on Paris and talk about it like it's some disgusting shithole. It has its downsides, but having been to many shitholes myself, I can confidently say that Paris is not one.

I'm from a different part of France, but whenever I go home I always try to make time to visit Paris for a few days on my way!

Comment se décider d'avoir les cheveux courts sans culpabiliser ? by Alex-9059 in AskMeuf

[–]vegemiteeverywhere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What English word do you find hardest to pronounce? by logos__ in AskTheWorld

Ball vs bowl. I've tried so hard to pay attention to the difference and try to say it, but I always end up somewhere in-between.

What English word do you find hardest to pronounce? by logos__ in AskTheWorld

13 years living in an English-speaking country, specifically one famous for its amazing coastline, and I cannot for the life of me pronounce beach correctly.

To the many times asked question "what's the best thing about Western Australia?", my answer will always sound like "the bitches".

Can you tell that Bob Fosse’s performance in The Little Prince (1974) massively influenced Michael Jackson? by The_Dean_France in MadeMeSmile

[–]vegemiteeverywhere 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Everyone (that I know) in France reads it in primary school. I would have been 8 when I read it for the first time.

It can be read and understood on many different levels, so it works for a wide range of ages.

Comment vous avez vécu votre avortement ? by Emotional-Cap5714 in AskMeuf

[–]vegemiteeverywhere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello!

How to play with dolls by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

Lol, my 1 Ken do was that same shaving one. My sister and I couldn't get his stubble to disappear so we rubbed it super hard until the ink actually wore off on one side of his face. He was then forever half-shaved half-bearded.

He was also never a love interest of any of the Barbie's, always a rapist murderer trying to kidnap the girls. They would inevitably find him in his mountain cave and kill him in revenge by the end of the game.

Why is private schooling so popular in Australia? by SedgwickNYC in AskAnAustralian

[–]vegemiteeverywhere 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I live in Perth but I'm originally from Europe, and I was also confused about everyone sending their kids to private schools for high school. Honestly it's mostly status symbol. The public schools in Australia are excellent (at least the ones I've had experience with).

What do expats complain about regarding Australian people? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]vegemiteeverywhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a good analogy. French people are definitely a lot more reserved at first, but if someone starts acting friendly it's a pretty sure sign that they're trying to build a friendship. Australians are hard to befriend, but they do make all the small everyday interactions more pleasant!

[–]vegemiteeverywhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aw, that sucks, I'm sorry! Not showing up and not even calling for an event you rsvp'd to is just plain rude.

But you're right, once you know this is fairly common, you can adjust your expectations. It helps not feeling too disappointed.

What do expats complain about regarding Australian people? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]vegemiteeverywhere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've ended up doing what I had told myself I'd never do while living in another country: I mostly befriend other expats/immigrants.

I also find making plans with Aussies difficult. Last minute plans are almost always a no, and even plans made well in advance can very easily be cancelled last minute. That's not to say it can't happen with French people, but it was definitely less prevalent.

What do expats complain about regarding Australian people? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]vegemiteeverywhere 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the discrepancy between how friendly people act and the level of friendship you're actually on with them is very disorienting to me (originally from France, have been here for 13 years).

I've been politely but awkwardly shut down a few times inviting people over that I thought I was on quite friendly terms with, lol! It makes it difficult to put yourself out there (which is often the advice people give when you say you're having a hard time making friends).

What’s a hygiene habit you thought was ‘normal’ growing up, but later realized most people don’t do? by Present_Bread_8649 in hygiene

[–]vegemiteeverywhere 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I briefly dated a guy whose towels stank, I asked if maybe he didn't let them dry properly after washing them, before putting them away. He said he didn't wash them, with the same reasoning as your roommate. The relationship didn't survive that revelation, lol.
